  • If you are having issues with the Moz tool, try using Google Webmaster tools to see who links back to you. You can also see the last time it was updated and crawled. • Ive added your idea of links inside table to body content so thanks for that. Those social buttons are using the addthis service, just styled against the theme of the site. But I see what you mean, im thinking of dropping it altogether and using the sharedcount.com API in a format similar to mashable. It aggregates all social shares into one number and cuts down the button clutter. Thanks for your help on this, I think the 'true' aim for me is to make my landing pages better than any other I find - I think if I achieve this ill be heading in the right direction. Ill give it 3 months and share where im at in another post.

  • Thanks Robert, It's all good food for thought and I appreciate your taking the time to chime in.  I've just begun working more hours at an eCommerce business and they rolled their own  site so there is much to do in terms of SEO, duplicate content, duplicate title tags etc.  Understanding how the MOZ reports do what they do helps me prioritize my work. jc

  • This. In the world of ecom SEO, do all you can to point people at just one page. Works better for users, and for search engine ranking. The only edit I would have is be very careful when configuring your URL's in the parameter tool. If done incorrectly it could harm your site. If you are having issues with multiple URL's getting indexed, then use htaccess to send bots and users to the correct pages. Same warning as above though.

  • We're having the EXACT same problem with the 902 error code from Moz. Google is NOT showing this code for us.However, MOZ showed it on Sept 11th but I believe it stemmed before that date.

  • The above answers are spot on. Have one H1 per page, and that H1 should be unique and reflect the main heading/title. I just wanted to add this great article by Bill Slawski - he goes into really great depth about their best usage and importance: http://www.seobythesea.com/2012/01/heading-elements-and-the-folly-of-seo-expert-ranking-lists/

  • Just FYI, someone specifically asked if canonicalizing a page will prevent it from being indexed last year on Moz. It's was a good discussion. Pay particular attention to what Dr Pete has to say on the matter. Sounds like you have a plan! Great.

  • No problem That link allows you to submit websites other than your own, so you could use it to submit the page that links to you.

  • Hi Jamie, If you don’t need the http version accessible and want to force the https you could simply redirect all traffic to the secure site with a 301, transferring all your pagerank to the main site. If you need both versions of the site accessible, for instance if you only needed https for logged in users, and you only want one version to appear in SERPs the best thing would be to use a canonical tag to consolidate all that SEO juice into the version you wish to rank. If there’s only a few secure pages with links to other non-secure pages then meta robots noindex, follow would work well, since the SEO juice will flow through those noindexed page and into the rest of your site, but if the whole site is duplicated on both versions this could be a big mistake. No-indexing an entire https version would be a bad move even if you were using noindex, follow since your internal linking will be to the secure pages. Even though pagerank will be passed through those pages it will eventually come to a dead end or leave through an external links. With the canonical tag, any links pointing to your secure version will pass their SEO juice to the non-secure site, rather than be lost in the noindexed site where it has nowhere to go. Have a little read of this interview with Matt Cutts a few years back for further clarification, it’s got a good quote about how PR flows through noindexed, followed pages: http://www.stonetemple.com/articles/interview-matt-cutts.shtml Matt Cutts: A NoIndex page can accumulate PageRank, because the links are still followed outwards from a NoIndex page. Eric Enge: So, it can accumulate and pass PageRank. Matt Cutts: Right, and it will still accumulate PageRank, but it won't be showing in our Index. So, I wouldn't make a NoIndex page that itself is a dead end. You can make a NoIndex page that has links to lots of other pages. So it’ll be different depending on your circumstances but if you’re in doubt, the canonical tag is your best bet as you’re only consolidating those pages in googles eyes. If those pages perform well and you noindex them without sending that PR somewhere useful you could be throwing away all that benefit. Hope that helps, Tom

  • If you remove the URLs using the tool they will stop ranking as soon as Google trys to crawl the pages again. This may take a little a little while depending on how many pages are currently linking to the pages that you want removed. Unfortunately there is no way to get them removed with immediate effect, though it is unlikely that a few duplicate title tags will have a huge effect on rankings.

  • I received a good response form one of my associates. I thought I'd post it because it was a concise answer. 1. Yes, Google has several ways of determining where you are searching from or about and then shows ads accordingly.2. Indirectly, yes it can make the click less expensive because it could raise the clickthrough, thus raising the quality score, thus lowering the required cost per click. Is it worth the effort to create unique ads for each state? No. It makes things very complicated to measure and difficult to manage.

  • At the risk of over-simplifying.... Page Authority of a particular URL is dependent on the quantity/quality of the links pointing to that URL Domain Authority is dependent (among other things) upon the quantity/quality of the links pointing to any URL on your domain. So it's entirely possible that your website is improving it's domain link profile, while the link profile to your key pages hasn't changed much. One way to address this is to make sure that the URLs that earn new links also link to your key pages, so that link equity is distributed internally throughout your site.
