How does Google determine if a link is paid or not?
I haven't reviewed all of the comments on this post thoroughly, but I thought it was imperative to mention this. If you are paying someone to review your product they are required by law, at least in the U.S., to acknowledge that. Not doing so would be violating FTC guidelines, and bring on potential fines. Help targeting the USA in Search
Hi there, The best way to solve Google's search result misalignment issues is by using hreflang annotations in order to specify the language and country target for each one of your different sites pages and refer to Google to the relevant version in each case. Please check: Google's specification to use hreflang annotations. Examples of misalignment situations (as yours) and the explanation on how to use the hreflang annotations with a tool. More examples on how many different sites use hreflang annotations I'm pretty positive that if you use the annotations correctly the situation will improve Thanks, Aleyda

Moving Site from HTTP to HTTPS
By now you may already know that Google have suggested to site owners listed under Webmaster Tools that they list four versions of their site when using HTTPS. So for us who are just initiating this move, we have to list http://redwrappings.com.au http://www.redwrappings.com.au https://redwrappings.com.au and finally https://www.redwrappings.com.au. Then they suggest making https://www.redwrappings.com.au the preferred site. I have an associated question - we are looking at using the Cloudflare CDN with its associated SSL certificate. Will there be any negative SEO effect using this SSL cert as opposed to our own? Thx, Graham

Google Site Search & SEO benefits
Hi! I have to be honest and not sugar coat this, I have never seen any direct SEO benefit from using site search... You can use the data you get from it, but it's probably not the tangible benefit you are looking for.

Analyzing a competitor on Amazon
I don't think the page has any external links. Amazon.com has different ranking signals than Google. For instance, reviews and ratings (both quantity and quality) are a huge factor. If you'd like to learn more about it, check out this great post - http://moz.com/blog/amazon-seo-organic-search-ranking-factors by Nathan Grimm. The best way to know what they're doing on FB is probably just to subscribe to them and pay attention to their page. See if you spot any FB ads showing up in the sidebar, or re-targeting after visiting one of their pages.

Google text-only vs rendered (index and ranking)
Hi, Google is quite clever at distinguishing what your code does and since you can search for the sentence inside the hidden element and find the page, it is being indexed. What you’re seeing in the Google cache is what a user without javascript enabled would see, so it’s personal choice if you think this is a problem for your site or not. But if Google thinks your site has poor usability for non-js browsers your rankings may be impacted. There are a few things you could do if you wanted to fix this: 1. Remove the hide class from your code and have javascript add this class so only users with javascript enabled will have the content hidden from them, leaving it visible to crawlers and in your text-only cache. 2. Google recommends using <noscript>tags to display content that is dynamically added by javascript. I know your js is not adding the content, just displaying it, but it will have the same effect in the text-only cache – your content will be visible both with and without javascript enabled.</p> <p>Hope this helps,</p> <p>Tom</p> <p> </p> <p> </p></noscript>

Multiple Domains for Real Estate
Hi Jon, I would say this depends upon the business model. Are these 10 different apartment building with different names? Or, perhaps, some other arrangement? I think it would be helpful if you could explain the business model in a bit more detail.

Strange Google SERP Layout: Anyone?
My response was pretty delayed on this one. No, I don't sync my phone with anything. Granted, I have my email accounts connected - but I'm too paranoid to sync it my machines. Anything with that many certificates, out of the box, isn't getting that kind of access. It's been months and it hasn't happened again. The Googles just probably crossed my internet tubes for a second.

"No Index, No Follow" or No Index, Follow" for URLs with Thin Content?
Personally I think its madness to "no follow" any internal links. When you "no follow" you are throwing link juice out the window, the days of sculpting links ( the practice of "no following" some links on a page so more juice flows though other "follow" links) are long gone, yet is still see it being attempted all over the place.

Spaces at beginning of title tag - negatively affect the optimization of the page?
Google will look for the first character. So unless there is some hidden character in the form of an entity (which I don't think is possible anyway) spaces are no problem whatsoever.

Livestreaming Events
Hi Laurel, It really depends on the quality you want of the live stream. It can be incredibly difficult to get a great live stream for a high-quality event. That is the primary reason that we don't do live streams for MozCon is because we'd greatly have to up our budget and amount of a/v people to keep the MozCon-quality. You also want to take in consideration of how many people are there and how big the room is. What kind of experience do you want to have? Who are they paying attention to? For small events, Usestream or even a G+ hangout/event can work well. You'll get the best audio and video if there's a microphone plugged in to the live streaming system and a video camera focused directly where you need it to be. I'm a big fan of outsourcing the a/v and bringing in a professional. Especially since it sounds like you have lots of other things on your plate. Taking care of a/v is a full-time job at an event.

How to Switch My Site to HTTPS in GWT?
As the other guys have mentioned, implementing 301 redirects correctly is the key when moving over to https. Adding to Google Webmaster Tools is a bonus and something you should do if possible. However this recent article on Marketing Land highlights a few issues that have been encountered by websites moving to https, so it's worth reading through this too so that you can avoid the issues mentioned: http://marketingland.com/snags-googles-ssl-vision-sites-can-get-tripped-quest-secure-web-97266
