  • Yes, which is why I thought the first page might be a bit more helpful as a reference point.

  • Hi, These appear because of rich snippets. You need a breadcrumb rich snippet - either schema.org or microformats. There is another one but I'm having a brain fart and can't remember it... Hopefully someone else will! It doesn't work with ssl sites though - once we put our ssl I lost all my lovely rich snippets in the serps! Maybe big G will make a change on that though since they've announced that they will give a slight ranking boost to ssl sites... My fingers are crossed anyway! Hope this helps, Amelia

  • Hi, I migrated a load of product category pages on one of my websites recently to cleaner URLs and to force the crawl I submitted the new URLs (and children) to index via WMT. This was to pick them up quickly - and it worked (within seconds). The old URLs appearing were never a problem. However there are limits to the number of times you can do this so that might be a sticking point for your solution as I'm guessing you have lots of products. Try it with one page (a low traffic and selling product!) and see what happens - and let us know. It's possible Google is holding onto your old URLs because they have a number of inbound links and the crawl will eventually catch up to only display the new URLs if you give it time. Aside from agreeing with the sitemap submission suggestion, I'd also triple check that your 301s / canonicals are set up properly on your website's old URLs by firing Screaming Frog or another crawler at it. • Max - Yes, this was for a non-profit, religious organization to promote an important holiday event that was $36 in price.  I can't share the conversion data, but it reached a significantly new audience in a 25 mile area around the city, with lots of conversions, a ton of impressions.  Honestly I didn't even pay attention to the Facebook likes, as it didn't really matter to this campaign.    I'd be happy to discuss more offline, though, if you want to message me. Thanks! Jeff

  • I'm also new to google play and app store optimization (ASO), below are some links to understand basics about ASO and also please keep in mind that Google Play Store counts backlinks and app reviews from external websites but app store or Apple store has nothing to do with backlinks. http://www.searchenginejournal.com/app-store-optimization-aso-is-it-really-the-new-seo/61939/ https://blog.kissmetrics.com/app-store-optimization/ http://www.apptamin.com/blog/app-store-optimization-aso-app-name-and-keywords/ This one is very detailed: http://blog.sensortower.com/blog/2014/03/25/our-best-app-store-optimization-and-marketing-tips-for-app-developers/ May be my answer doesn't help you much, I'm new here, just trying to help you. • H tags are also how people with screen readers often navigate. Not including them is making your site even harder for someone using such a device than it needs to be. Screen readers read out all the text on a site, navigation, links etc (all super fast). Many people using screen readers will navigate by heading tags because it's easier to get to the content.

  • OK well if you do a site:www.joomgeek.com in Google you will see that it shows the correct description, so there is no issue there. This now comes down to Google for each query, the engine will decide what to show and what not and may choose to re-write, it is normally a good sign that perhaps Google does not love the description and me be worth re-writing. When I took part of your description "Our webmarketing agency will help you to get the best ROI from your" and searched for it, it was on over 30 results, but your was nowhere. I would change it make it unique and submit it again.

  • I would disagree that this does no harm. If you are targeting the keyword "Sony" for example, it loses relevancy the more you have it dispersed throughout your site with duplicate content. Matt Cutts has a great video here, http://searchengineland.com/googles-matt-cutts-duplicate-content-wont-hurt-you-unless-it-is-spammy-167459 where he discusses this. If any of those duplicate pages have keywords, you are losing ranking opportunities. Have you thought about adding a reviews system to those pages? That helped me a lot with all of the parts and accessories I have on my site. I also started putting them on the main pages to build some prioritization. For example: My Generator Page: Includes the Generator, then displays the accessory and parts pages. I allow my users to add them to the cart from this page in order to focus the traffic in one location. This has helped my main pages and and my accessory pages. I added reviews to the parts pages and then helpful tidbits of information where I could. Such as maintenance schedules, how to articles and any other topic I could think of that would be helpful to someone looking for those parts and accessories.

  • This is a 100% NO NO. Its black hat. This site is selling links in articles to try to game Google, this will be flagged as a paid link by Google bot and possibly have a negative effect on your site. Don;t do link building like this unless you want to end up in a Penguin penalty, it takes years to get out of a penalty. you have to fix your problems, then submit a request to Google once they release you. You then need to wait for the next refresh, so far its been just over 1 year since the last refresh! If you are looking to do some link building I would look at outreach, Google it and learn how it would work for you there are some great guides around.

  • Yes don't use underscores. Underscores make your url looks spammy and so do long urls. Go for the first example for sure.

  • At some point the site will either get reported and it will be manually looked at, or the Panda algo will catch up with them. Making changes are hard to do when a site ranks well. So its really your call on that, but if you want to have a middle road, you could suggest building new pages and have them ready to go just in case they get hit by panda. Google does not mind internal duplication and unless it is really extreme they will not penalise you for it, I have spoken to Google's John Mueller about it multiple times, including just this Friday. Google will choose the page it thinks is the best fit and show that. There are no tools that I would recommend other than your own eyes. Look at the site from a customers point of view, if it does not make sense get rid of it. For the most part Google is better today than it ever was at ranking sites based on actually quality rather than making sure you have all 200 SEO signals ticked off and the site looks like garbage to a user. Which was only 2 years ago really. I would be very surprised if they rank higher for a keyword stuffed list. Google does not pay attention to them it is more interested in content with links embedded in that content. I would look at other reasons, maybe better internal linking through content. External Links are still a huge factor, maybe they have better links or better content overall across their site. But going back to your client, i would let them make the decision but I would make it clear to them what the risks are, if they make the choice then it cant come back on you either way.

  • Google's John Mueller said many times that reporting a site does not mean you will see immediate action. The penguin algo has not updated for over 1 year!!! So immediate action implies 1 year or more sometimes! What they do is gather lots of data and use it to factor in to a new algorithm update. This can take a very long time and as I have argued many many times, is a very infective approach as by the time they are rolled out the guilty sites have a new tactic in place already. Doorway pages are frowned upon and will eventually get hit by some algo.
