Moz Keyword Competition Analysis Tool
-
Hi
Just been having a play around with the Moz Keyword Competition Tool and noticed that the reuslts given in terms of exact match searches is different from the data in the actual Google Adwords keyword tool even though the Moz tool pulls its data form the Google Adwords index so technically should be the same right?
Was just wondering if anyone else had noticed that or if I am missing something.
All you help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers

Actually, the Moz Keyword Tool uses data from Bing (a lot of keyword tools that used the Google API were asked to stop using them a few months ago, such as Moz and Raven Tools).
The Bing data can be very valuable, as it is actually based on organic data (not adwords as with Google), uses precise figures (no estimations) and provides search volume from the last month of data, not a 12 month average. This allows you to see how relevant the keyword still is.
The biggest drawback of course is that Bing draws from a much smaller sample pool than Google and so may not be wholly representative of searcher intent.
I think that combining the Google and Bing data pools is one of the best ways to perform keyword research. Throw in the number of mentions from Fresh Web Explorer and you've got even more insight on keywords.
Hope this helps.

Hi Tom
Thanks for your repsonse.
Interesting you mention the data is pulled form Bing as I noticed a small disclaimer underneath the results box:
- Search Volume data is collected from the Search-based Keyword Tool via the Google AdWords API
Totally agree, would rather have upto date data than a 12 month overall average with estomations etc.
I also agree on the Fresh Web index as this also gives some great insights as well as the Google Trends facility too.
