  • Loved SMX - have been to many, spoken too and when you rub shoulders with the SEO gurus you read about all day long, it's a great way to bond with those folks...you lean while you're there!

  • Thank you for your quick reply, I was watching the whiteboard Friday about links and I know these websites are not spam links in the sense that they been placed on rubbish websites just for the sake of linking, but all the websites are controlled by me and I'm sure Google realises the common connection and I just didn't want the opposite of some kind of penalty because the subjects are completely different of each website and I made the links etc. I appreciate your comments and I will place some text pointing out the connection from each website back to my holiday letting website

  • I would prefer SEOMOZ for their MozRank and Competitor Analysis. Other tools i have used are MajesticSEO and SEOGix. Regards, Infant Raj

  • If you don't have concrete requirements, you are right do it hourly as scope creep will eat up a fixed budget quickly. Some of the tasks have different market rate ranges (based on what Cole/William stated)--but if you are comfortable at $50 an hour and have capacity, go for it.

  • Thank you for the answers! Answered my questions very well and I'll be moving on from Multiview. It sounded a little odd to me to track it down to the exact company who is visiting a site, but I just wanted to cover my bases and make sure I wasn't missing something.

  • We're in the same predicament here on the other end of I-4 (Clearwater).  Technology proficients in our area are slim pickings.  Here's a few things we've done that has worked well in the past: (1) Documentation - Document your SEO procedures and utilize a system for maintaining all your work (so it's scalable).  We use Access07, for managing implementations, history from Dmoz and citation history and effort - kept on a server and accessed remotely via logmein or vpn.  That way you can manage effort and results on a scalable platform.  We have a solid on-boarding process that can get new folks performing great SEO within a week. (2) Locally - Hire experienced admins that are really good at researching online, being creative with data and good with Excel.  We generally give a short homework assignment to qualified candidates to test their speed and creativeness. (3) Remotely - Hire employees from outside the area to telecommute.  We've hired out of Atlanta and NC, which are both relatively cheap airline tickets and short flights for necessary "day trips" to the office. If you've done #1 well, the rest is teachable.  Besides, you want folks who will SEO your way (which works for you and your clients) and not broken or trained improperly by somebody else.

  • Flat rate, and charge an hourly rate for setting up additional ad groups and tie in the reporting.  We try to keep the client's money in their pocket and just charge for a reasonable amount of effort.  That seems to work well for both clients who spend $10,000/month and those that spend $1,000/mo on PPC.

  • Hi Diegopp, it looks like you might have a relation to this service you're promoting. If you do have a relation, could you please disclose the relation? Thanks! Also, it looks like this post was an abstract of http://www.cnet.com/news/qr-codes-arent-useless-after-all-nielsen-study-says/, where the original posters might want to go to find more information.

  • We've recently put together a pretty comprehensive guide on getting into SEO http://distinctly.co/career-in-seo/ What do you think? Please let us know if you feel it can be expanded in anyway? Thanks, Distinctly

  • You're welcome. But there is a lot that was left out. It's just the nature of the beast. Link building/acquisition/earning is a broad and deep topic. There are millions of ways to go about it. Some tactics will get you in trouble. Some tactics may result in public ridicule. So be careful and read up. If a link looks shady, it probably is. The best links drive real traffic. Search operators are your friends.

  • That was supposed to have been "great question". Wonder how that happened! I find the Moz interface doesn't play well with my iPad. Course my brain and fingers might not have been coordinating well after midnight either. Your idea is an excellent one. Especially if it embraces the TAGFEE or a similar code that facilitates and encourages openness and sharing.

  • look at other websites that have achieved this goal that you wish to do. you are going to start marketing agency and you want to know how to do the keyword research. Alexa.com compete.com they both feature information on sites other than your own. You can Google similar sites as well. A excellent example of a local SEO site that has succeeded would be whitespark.ca for B2B organic search look at any HubSpot partner http://www.impactbnd.com/ or http://www.kunocreative.com/ everyone these companies are doing well and I list them just so you can try and learn from what they have achieved. Case studies on B2B organic agencies are plentiful at http://www.hubspot.com/partners I hope this helps, Thomas

  • Another good idea that I often use: where are your customers pain points, and what sort of information might they be looking for online? Use Google Keyword Planner to choose a subject that you think your customers are interested in, but that there are no good answers on. Research the answer, write it up in a guide, and put it on your site. It'll build your brand awareness even when people aren't actively looking for your services, plus any inbound links it gets will help your domain authority. Hope that helps!

  • Choose your clients carefully Simon especially the ones that don't pay you a lot of money. They are the ones that expect the most amount of work to be done for them and will be on you everyday demanding proof of work. Manage the client's expectations with results from day one. Good, clean SEO takes time and delivers long lasting results. It's all about the education and transparency with the clients. All the best.
