  • As you say, I think it means that Google will pick up a higher CTR on ads. When SERPs are dominated by one site with a list of sitelinks, users will see diversity in the ads.

  • Interesting discussion! I would love to start with dividing the 3rd party website in to different forms. 3rd party websites like Yelp.com and other Yellow pages websites 3rd party websites like trip adviser who allow limited niches to promote their services (niche related portal) 3rd part websites like SEOmoz who are the leaders in their industry and give you a chance to build your authority within the community over the period of time. Option 1: I think this is something here many SEO firms and freelancers are focusing already but i still think it needs more focus and concentration. If a business plays a vital role on 3rd part websites like stay action, reply to questions and reviews and communicate with the clients on regular basis i believe this can seriously help businesses get some serious leads. This will be a great option for local business who offers services within a limited area. Websites like Google Maps, Yelp and other yellow pages websites are great in that case... Option 2: Portals or websites like Trip Adviser or more are helpful but one need to spend some major time there... I personally don’t think that many people are investing their time on building strong presence on these websites, although business with limited online marketing budget should focus here specially websites from travel, Real Estate and hotel niches. I think service providers (this goes to me too) should invest more time building strong presence there because i think many people use these kind of portals before making any decision so I think building strong presence will make a difference. Option 3: This is the most interesting and time taking at the same time. Websites like SEOmoz who are the industry leaders in their particular niche but does not offer SEO services are great place where you can build your brand. This can be possible by being active in the community, commenting to daily blog posts, writing guest posts on the blog and building strong and communication with the community not only on the platform but on other channels like twitter facebook and emails. This will help you build yourself as an expert within the community and you can get a chance to get more leads for your business. Hope this helps, love to listen your point of view on this...

  • I find that taking all the punched holes from my hole puncher and tossing them in the air and then pretending I am in a parade while I wave to all my admirers feels pretty good.

  • Thanks Dan, that works.  We were having some issues because our advertising page skin was blocking all of the written content on our pages.  When the pages got cached in google and you clicked "text only", there was no text there because the page skin was blocking it.  Just fetched as googlebot thought and all text seems to come through now, but we'll se what happens when the pages get indexed. Thanks!

  • My sitelinks disappeared last week.  I was frantically searching for reasons why and then 10 minutes later it was back.  I wouldn't get too stressed for now.  Wait and see if they come back.  Google may be experimenting with some algo changes and perhaps they only show sitelinks for certain queries and not every single time.

  • 4 months since I posted this and look at the situation right now. It's even worse. Basically they have done completely the opposite of what they promised. I am not surprised at all.

  • Arrghhhhh, well blow me down, if only they named it the pirate penalty, such an opportunity for pirate blogging hilarity me harties! I think this is small beans for most people and is just another tweak to better assign or remove trust to a given site and use that in the ranking signals.

  • They won't.  It seems DMCA requests are handled differently for those sites and not counted the same way. ...and even if you were counted, you have to remember this isn't a "penalty".  I don't understand why SEL is calling it a penalty when the official announcement says it'll be one of the 200+ signals. So I think it's an algo factor.  Just like Site Speed is a factor.   Slow sites still rank today because there's 200+ other factors also being considered.

  • Hi David, Thanks for your fast reply on my question! We noticed that Venice is overruling depersonalisation search. Even if our customers use &pws=0 or incognito mode they sill get local results. This is not only annoying for our customers, but also for us as SEO professionals. How can we tackle this problem? REOI3.png

  • Hi. I'm running out of ideas of ways to build DA apart from links to be honest. I undercut taxi firms (with masssive overheads) by supplying best price airport taxi runs out of kent. So my competition is generally local taxi firms with basic holding pages. heres' the site. http://cheap-airport-taxis.com/ I can't see any other way to increase my DA from 19 than to employ a link builder to go a get links. I would ask them to report on on the DA and PR of the links and record where the URLs are so I can check them. But with little value in hitting blog sites, directories now (as I understand they dont pass PR) what option do I have really? I cant get link aquistion from local government agencies ect as they prefer to promote the bricks and mortor style taxi firms. Don't see what options I have left to build DA to be honest. A link builder seems the next logical step as long as I can track where im getting links from. If you can tell me another 5 things I should do to build DA i'm all ears. I know link building is sneared upon but surley there is value there with what I can figure out - on page optimisatioin is woirth about 20% and the rest is basically linking...

  • A good place to start is SEOmoz's own list of recommended companies - http://www.seomoz.org/article/recommended. I'm sure some others on here have the other companies they are willing to recommend as well.

  • Google can tell they're the same image, and even lets you use this as a search. Go to images.google.com and click on the little image icon right by the search. Instead of putting in words describing the image, you can upload an image or point to an image URL and Google will tell you if it finds that image (or a very similar image) on any other pages. That's also a great way to find out if other sites are using your images. I found two other sites using an image from my site, for example. Here's the search results http://bit.ly/MtrXbs

  • Very good EGOL! Good inbound marketing scales to all levels of business no doubt.  If they are the best at large business marketing they are likely to be the best at small business marketing.

  • Ah ha. Maybe this is why. I have been puzzling all day over something. Briefly, on 22nd May my ranking for my number one keyword fell from 3 to around 50. My traffic dropped from about 180 visitors per day to about 35 and my income was halved as I have many repeat buyers that kept me afloat. This morning I got my number 3 ranking back. Woo-Hoo. I just want it to stay there a while, preferably forever, I hated all those crappy sites outranking me
