  • Hi, Thanks for your response, I actually agree with you on G+ growth. I said "possible Google pull away from non G+ social signals (in favour of rel author)".

  • I have I similar issue with a client in the travel industry. They got a panda #21 slap, and I am not sure why. They have quality unique content, good visitor/time on page, no advertising, good load times and sensible use of title and h1 tags. The interesting thing is that the penalty does not seems to be site wide, their blog on the same domain was not affected, and they are still holding position for main keywords.  However for secondary keywords & long tails they are have dropped and in my opinion are being outranked by sites of lesser quality. I to having been researching possible causes and am at a bit of a loss... Anybody else have any input?

  • I will have to try to find them.  I saw them about a month ago and had been meaning to post it.  Do you see any out there?

  • Thanks both.  I'm starting to think that I either dreamt this or it was someone reposting something old.  Definitely can't find it. The closest I've found is this slidedeck from Justin Briggs in April: http://www.slideshare.net/justinrbriggs/link-building-reporting-12257082  .  Found via inbound.org - thanks Kane.  Hadn't every considered inbound to be useful before.

  • Do you know if I have to consider the inbound links from OSE or WMT?

  • Who said Google is the best site on the Internet?  Honestly - I don't think I have every heard anyone say that before. There is a GA app by the way.  I've seen the official one in Google Play store. However it looks rubbish, so I have not bothered.  The main site works ok on my mobile so I tend to use that anyway.

  • I use Bluehost quite a bit. Here's a list of Wordpress-recommended hosts. Bluehost is one of them.

  • I agree Michael, it's a stereotype sure but most of the stuff churned out for the sake of being churned out as "fresh content" that is written in poor English simply doesn't have a use or practical function on the Internet other than a desperate attempt to soak up whatever meagre traffic they can. It's especially glaring considering their continued mantra has been "write for the user instead of the search engines" when these pages/posts are doing exactly the opposite...

  • Outsourcing your SEO for a small business isn't easy. It's difficult to find one consultant or company that has the skill set you're looking for with a small business budget. However, there are services that can make some of the SEO tasks easier for you. I recommend outsourcing your business listings/citations to Whitespark.ca. You can easily get hundreds of links though this service, but make sure you're monitoring your link diversity. On another note, I think you would benefit from a stronger value proposition. Check out what Peep has to say about value propositions.

  • Another point. It doesn't have to be the business owner who does the verification and uses his own IP address. It can be the receptionist or anyone else. All I need is for the business owner to tell the employee to expect my call and follow my instructions. On one occasion, the employee even called me from home because she had no web access at work.

  • Thanks so much for your reply, We did do some competitor analysis and duplicate content searching and couldn't find any major issues in this aspect. You can also see in the image "http://i.imgur.com/lCx44.jpg" that we lost about 2,000 hits right about the time that the Panda and Penguin updates and refreshes came around. As for Google Trends: 1.  Researched some of our major keywords. 2.  There was somewhat of a decline right around the year 2010.  The search volume has steadily declined since then. 3.  Important Fact:  Prior to the peak of search volume for our keywords before 2010 we used to average 16,000-1,7000 hits a month.  At this time the search volume for our targeted keywords was about the same as it is now. 4.  There is definitely something wrong here. These are the company owner's thoughts on the matter: "I think it has to do with sites linking to us that have been devalued and causing us to drop, the image shows a decent drop around the time of the G updates."

  • Hi Ron, What you are seeing here is just Google's current choice of display. If you search for 'Austin Restaurants' you will see all of the restaurants in your area being displayed in the same manner you have cited. Don't worry about this, and don't be surprised if Google changes their display layout again soon. They are always tweaking the information they choose to display in the local listings, so we all have to roll with the punches (and try to smile while doing so ) Hope this helps to know you've not been singled out!

  • Hey, it's an interesting theory. They are certainly taking their time rolling out the new 'jolting and jarring' Penguin update so I guess we will have to just sit tight and wait and see (as ever). My take on the Disavow links tool was more that it was for those people with a manual penalty but if they are planning on really shaking things up then I guess it gives them some wiggle room if lots of people are negatively affected by the next update. I do know that link spam seems as bad as ever in some niches I monitor. Sure, they have taken some of the really aggressive anchor text abuse down, but for every site removed, a new manipulative site has appeared with a slightly different anchor text signature so this push towards relevance and quality could not be more important or timely.

  • Okay, I found this post by Dr Pete called 'How Do I Get Google's Bulleted Snippets?'. The post is describing what I found above. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-do-i-get-googles-bulleted-snippets Interestingly, no affirmative conclusion was made as to what a user needs to do to obtain the search result..
