  • Hey Eugene! Yeah that is a common problem with Retargeting campaigns...it can be tricky to set them up properly so that you are removing people from your cookie pool once they convert. I'd say only about half of all advertisers do this correctly so that is why you continue to see ads even after you convert. With keeping that in mind, I still believe that the benefits of retargeting far outweigh the negatives. I can tell you that the majority of the people who sign up for free trials with us every week have at least been exposed to one of our retargeting banners. Not all of them will directly convert off of the banner but the brand impression has a value that shouldn't be underestimated. -Justin

  • hi keith, i have changed this page here http://www.cheapflightsgatwick.com/news/leeds-airport/leeds-airport-celebrity-cheap-flights-airline-new-route i have moved a google adsense to the left of the content and it looks better but not put any on the top bar because after reading what was suggested on here. i found that people are complaining about having adsense at the top of the page. do the links count as part of the three ads allowed on the page or is this seperate and also would it be worthwhile having a google search on my site

  • Depending upon what products and services you are selling a video might work well.  I expect that it would be better for services where the potential client gets in touch with you by phone.  The video would give them an opportunity to learn about you before calling. If it was shopping cart transactions I would definitely land them on the product page with a buy button. However, the video might work well.  If you don't try it you never find out. One thing that they say about trying something that is very different.... that is how you kick things up an order of magnitude or learn what does not work. Good luck.

  • Without addressing your specifics, I can guess yes based on my experience with campaigns in one of my client's Adwords account. In talking with an adwords rep about an issue with one campaign, he repeatedly referred to the influence of a separate campaign within the same account. May I suggest you call an Adwords rep yourself and inquire directly about the problem?

  • Theres a lot of available APIs on infochimps. One possibility is their IP demo API -- http://www.infochimps.com/datasets/digital-element-ip-intelligence-demographics their geo API stuff --  http://www.infochimps.com/apis/geo Also another data provider like Rapleaf can help get a lot of info from just an email address. Send them the email over the API and return as much profile info as they have on the individual. If you can get them to give up google credentials or linkedin, then you can access contacts, etc.

  • I tested your site with the Bing SEO Toolkit, and it does not bring up a violation as it used to, so you can say that neither Bing or Google have a problem iwth cross domain canonical

  • Glad to be of help One of the things I worry about most in SEO is changing things for the sake of change ... I've learned the hard way to take a breath and think before reacting. It's a hard lesson to learn, but it can be really satisfying when you discover that you made the right decision.

  • Hi Pashmina, Thanks, that seems to correspond with the type of information I've been finding. So, we could integrate something like TrustPilot or Trusted Shops on our website (so people can make product specific reviews). And then - is it automatic? Do they automatically show up on our google places page and on our adwords, or do we need to switch something on/do something else? Thanks so much for the help!

  • Are their any good tools out there that have already been developed? I think that the most powerful tool is the word "FREE".  Give away a lot for free and make money on the upsell. Free stuff goes viral.... paid subscriptions usually don't. Why not post the daily content on your website as a series of free lessons?  If they are good they will attract links, likes, tweets, etc. which could be more valuable than current income. The goal is to give them a lot but let them finish wanting more... and you will have more to sell.

Give away information Note: I'm not a huge fan of discounting because of the bad pattern it starts with the customer 3. Use Capture Pages/ Landing Pages to boost the perceived value of getting on your list 4. Constantly ask people to subscribe 5. Run a competition 6. Run a Promotion Answering you question above I would say that running competition's/giving stuff away won't necessarily help your conversions in your list for that you need to optimize the copy in the email you send out.

  • Hi Keri, Thanks for getting back on this. I was able to make my case, but without the scientific evidence I was looking for. It turned out that the manual referral system used by the hiring managers of the company has major flaws and is not properly used by most of the managers. That resulted in faulty referral reports to the HQ. In short they had a bigger problem than the referral question :).

  • Hi Dan, Thanks for your reply. I see your thinking, but I guess it can be argued both ways; e.g. it could be argued that if someone is looking to purchase an 'item', they might search in the singular, e.g. "I want a shower tray", whereas if they are looking for information, they might search for it in the plural, e.g. "information on shower trays". In all honesty though, I think it comes down to the individual and the way they think when entering a search. If they think in more of a first person/self-serving kind of way, when they search, they might want to "buy a shower tray", whereas if they think in more of a third person/generalist kind of way, they might search for someone who "sells shower trays". Whether most of the population fall into the former or latter groups perhaps depends on culture and may differ from country to country. Certainly in the UK, the larger search volumes seem to lie with the singular (for our keywords at least). I guess the question really though, is whether Google makes a similar differentiation as any of our theories above, as it clearly gives different ranking positions for plural and singular versions.
