Chat through best practices for conversion rate optimization.

  • Hi Karl, I second Dany's advice. Additionally, and while it doesn't give you the direct data you are asking for, you can use Google Analytics Flow Reports to get a better idea of what your readers are looking for. Since you had mentioned conversions, this type of data will give you insights beyond just click numbers, and help you optimize the most sought after content. -Josh

  • I had the same question. After some digging. I found the tag assistant plug in for chrome. It checks the site and lets you know if it is working properly. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tag-assistant-by-google/kejbdjndbnbjgmefkgdddjlbokphdefk?hl=en On a side note the script should be right after the body tag; unless you are adding datalabel scripts (I am still wrapping my head around.)

  • There is no guarantee Google will do this. The advice is work on Brand, but you can't guarantee they will change anything. -Andy

  • We built a ppc reporting tool called ReportGarden(http://reportgarden.com) that can help you with this. We built the software specially for scenarios like this. You will be able to select Campaigns, Ad Groups, Keywords, Ads and the sort them by conversions. This will help you figure out which ones have conversions. You can then remove unnecessary items from the list. If you need any help setting up, you can reach me at support@reportgarden.com. Ashok

  • Thank you so much Jasmine, your anwser has been very helpful for me. I have been checking the data in the assisted conversion funnel section and I have an idea now about what is happening with the channels and conversions. Excellent!

  • Hi, Start with installing the Redirect Path plugin for Chrome so you can more easily track what's happening with redirects on your site. That hopefully can provide you with valuable insights. Probably every extra parameter on your site will cause a redirect on your site. So go ahead and just enter a URL on your site add a parameter or the GCLID parameter to see what happens. Use Redirect Path to determine from where to where the page is redirecting. Now you can tell your developer or figure out yourself where the redirect is triggered and how you can overcome this. Good luck!

  • Takeshi, you understood the problem very well, which tells me you understand both SEO and business. BTW - as I mentioned previously, the SEO company that failed was actually engaged earlier than 2000, I just fudged the date because it couldn't have been later than that date. << . It can take a long time to see results with SEO, so you may want to focus on other lead gen methods until you can build up your business and can afford to spend more time/resources on SEO. I will pass the word, thanks very much.

  • I would agree with the daily budget caps suggestion.  That's what I've found out works best for me.  I break the budget up so the campaign will run for as many days as possible with the daily budget before hitting your monthly budget total.

  • The community is convinced they can sell anyone on the community if they talk to them. Sorry for the confusion. What I meant by that statement was that the community believes that if they can talk to someone on the phone, they can get them to come to the community for a visit. Luckily for my client, their facility is top notch and they have a very solid reputation. They are booked on some floors but have openings for people with more serious issues and they are always actively looking for new residents. In this particular industry, you are constantly "losing" customers. I must say that just because the facility is great does not mean potential customer visits shouldn't be met by someone trying to extol the virtues of the facility. I think the word "salesperson" is throwing us all off here. It is a very soft sell on their part because the community understands that location, smell, cleanliness and quality of food are huge. And they are not worried about that. All they want to do is talk to someone on the phone and schedule a visit, the rest will take care of itself.

  • Thank you all so very very much. Matt, I am going to drop you a PM as you suggested. Paul, wow...thank you for sharing your insights here. I am sure this is extremely helpful information not just for me, but for many other folks here who've observed some of the same things on their sites. Yes, I agree that the conversion issue could very well be a mobile optimization problem and not a Safari problem as we have spent very little to no time optimizing our mobile site. Given the traffic levels coming in via that channel, it's probably time to get crackin'! You guys are awesome!

  • I'll give you my non-SEO advice here as all the answers above are good from an SEO perspective.  I personally don't believe in them. From a security standpoint they don't actually prove anything.  I can show you 1,000's of insecure sites that carry big name trust badges.  Whenever I see a site prominently displaying a trust badge I always think they are trying to compensate for a lack of security with a giant sticker. On companies you would generally trust like microsoft, vmware, google, amazon, etc there are no trust badges displayed.  I think a nice statement in your policies about security is a much better move.  People who are already security conscious can seek out the information while users who weren't worried about it in the first place won't be freaked out and security snobs like myself won't think you're trying hard Ps. feel free to drop me a line if you need any security advice. -Nick

  • I also reference the Moz guide that @Chris mentions above. That and (less frequently) this one - b-s.ee/149L8Cv. A how-to from stateofdigital.com for mobile websites. I followed @Eli's suggestion and Googled "seo audit filetype:pdf". It's a great template.

  • Hi Dave, Yes you can test conversion tracking...its the first thing I do when launching a new campaign.  You will need to go to Google.com, search for a keyword, click your text ad, and perform an actual conversion on your site.  I recommend performing this test for each individual conversion page on your site. Use a different keyword for each conversion page. This way you can verify each thank you/conversion page has the AdWords conversion tracking code installed correctly.  Wait until tomorrow (There is a 12-24 hour delay in AdWords conversion reporting), and verify AdWords and Analytics are reporting each conversion was tracked. Hope this helps Branden

  • Hi Matthew- Depending on what you want to do, I've found Gravity forms relatively easy to setup and get working. There are options for conditional field display, splitting up the form into multiple steps, adjusting the CAPTCHA approach, etc that work pretty reliably out of the box. The drawback that I've encountered is that it's not terribly easy to customize the output (get directly to the markup and change it). That may not be an issue for your specific use case, but there have been times where a client was using Gravity Forms and I wished it gave me some more flexibility. On a related note I put a post together which runs through some of the plugins that I've used for Wordpress optimization here (including Gravity Forms) -  - http://www.funnelenvy.com/blog/2013/11/20/23-tools-to-optimize-wordpress-for-search-conversions/ Hope this helps. • The most honest answer is that we simply don't know. There is some speculation that CTR and/or bounce-back rates and search refinement rates factor into the rankings. No one has proved either, but both seem to make sense. If I were Google, I would use CTR as one factor among many, but only judge against results for similar positions in similar results. For example, the CTR on simple questions is likely to be low across the board, so I wouldn't hold that against someone. With all of that said, I am currently responsible for a number of sites that actively try to convert people directly from SERPs. We haven't noticed any downside to it because we satisfy their query when they do click with more information and they don't click on other results either. As I said, it makes sense. Google would compare apples to apples if they had any sense.
