  • I agree that getting the fundamentals right is your first port of call and John's link above is a great start which covers many of the aspects you really need to get right. I would also suggest making sure you have all the relevant social channels linked up and being interacted with, this should  help you generate additional engaged traffic to your site. Secondly, if you have a local presence for the business get started with this. Moz Local would be a good place to start as this should provide you with additional SEO benefits. Finally, you mentioned you are getting a lot of referral bot/spam traffic, I would suggest you try and clean up your analytics and block unwanted crawlers as without you will find it hard to determine genuine traffic to your site. There is a great article from Carlos Escalera on removing ghost referral spam that I would highly recommend you read. Hope that all helps.

  • Hey Sarwan, A bounce rate can be defined as a percentage of sessions/(visits) where only one interaction occurs. It's actually measured by a first arrival of a visitor, and if there isn’t a second interaction within next 30 minutes – it counts as “a Bounce”." So, in this way, if you're viewing a page, and leaves your browser idle or left that page open for longer than 30 mins, it will register as a bounce. And, if you continues to navigate after this delay, a new session will occur. Same applies, if you keep open the tab for a whole day. See the attitude image for more understanding. Hope this clear your confusion! Umar bounce-rate-lrg.png

  • Take a look at what some of your top competitors or successful related companies are doing to get some ideas. Look for evidence that their audience appreciates it.

  • Today can be a page talking about icons, tomorrow other subject ... Thanks.  My biggest problem is image theft. There are a lot of sites doing this with my brand.  I don't think it is worth doing anything about, and I don't think it is malicious - unless they are using your brand name and your content in a bad way or to attract traffic to ad-filled pages that should have been coming to your site.  But these sites generally do not rank well. Today can be a page talking about icons, tomorrow other subject ...

  • Honestly, Facebook page management is a bit outside of my expertise. You may have seen this Facebook help page before, but it's where I would start. Sending you there feels a bit like tech support asking you if you rebooted your computer, though. Hopefully someone with more experience troubleshooting Facebook pages will chime in.

  • Thanks Andy. My Website is already verified in google news & following all the guidelines still its not coming. We post 4-5 posts on daily basis.

  • I actually think it has less to do with schema and more to do with things like Freebase. It's the same as the one box showing up in branded searches in Google. I don't know the threshold or metrics for how to get that, but I know you at least need to have the same consistent information across the web about your brand. As Bob said, I'm really curious if anyone has insight as to metrics or thresholds.

  • Jasmine,Man do I wish you were right about this. Unfortunately, no dice. Our website doesn't request personal information outside of the "Contact Us" form and a form for requesting an appointment, but even then we're not talking about any medical information at all.  I've been turned down multiple times for all remarketing campaigns. I would love to hear from anyone who has had success with this recently.

  • Hey, Okay.. This result that you're referring to is actually a wikipedia page of that company. If your brand is already has the wiki page then wait till google start showing these results in your region. But if you don't have the wiki page, you may want to look into Knowlegde Graph by implementing Schema markups. P.S: Knowledge graph is different from "brand drop down". Hope this answers your question! Umar

  • Hi John, You can certainly redirect these to the main site, but they're not likely to add value beyond capturing type in traffic unless the domains have links pointing to them. I think it's a good idea to buy these for competitive reasons. If I were you, I'd likely 301 redirect them to the main site and then ignore them.

  • Thank you for posting this!  I had read another thread about a non-profit's Google grant, but I didn't fully put two and two together the relevance to this questions, plus how I should get on it with setting it up!

  • The AdX network requires a significant amount of finessing to get it running smoothly. I know you make more money from DoubleClick but running Adsense allows you to stop spinning you wheels as frequently. It's a little less intensive to manage. With DoubleClick, you are going to need to do a lot more scheduling. Your settings may be restricting other advertisers from being able to appear on your site. I would play around more with the settings until you are serving more ads.

  • Hi there I would run through this migration guide to make sure that you took every step in moving the old site. It sounds like you did this in a messy way and I'm not entirely sure what you did. If you are moving content, 301 redirects need to be in place immediately. I would also read into Google's resources on URL changes. This is all kind of cloudy, so make sure you run through the resource above and that should help you. Let me know! Good luck!

  • The way that Google views this sort of thing, is to ask yourself the following question: "Is everything different and needs to be on a different domain, or could it all be featured under just one?" And this is very true. Why do you have multiple domains? Was it to make the most of EMD (Exact Match Domains) or to try and gain more favour with Google? This is exactly how they view it. I always advise my clients in this boat to consolidate if the content across the sites is very similar. You then have to think about the visitors. Are there opportunities to cross-sell a product or service? You don't really want to be moving them between domains as this is bad for UX and trust. By what you have said here, I would probably be advising you to consolidate, but without knowing more, there could be exceptions. -Andy

  • Hello John, Thanks again for your help – it is much clearer now. We don't want to trick our users, but we do want them to use the piece of content we have created without being overwhelmed by the brand. What we're probably going to so is host the content on our corporate URL but create a whole new design – much less branded  – for that content.

  • Hi there I would do the following - check your internal links, check your sitemap, and create a custom 404 page. You're going to want to make sure that you're not linking to these pages through your links and sitemap, and you're going to want to make sure that users have a way to navigate out of 404 pages or find what they are looking for. I agree Mark that if there is a relevant page for those pages to be redirected to (category page or content relevant to it), then see what opportunities you have there. Keep in mind that if you can find patterns in the URL structure, you have the opportunity to block these pages with your robots.txt. I would be careful, however, because this could easily backfire if you don't know what you are doing. Remember - Google in Search Console puts these errors in priority order, so run through those, see what kind of pages they are, where they live, and look at the resources above to see what kind of opportunities that you have to remedy the issue. Hope this helps! Good luck!

  • Hey Ben, Thanks for sharing your problem and it's indeed a very tough situation for your business. If I were at your place, I wouldn't take this step to go with domain that's not matched with my brand name. Even if I had to, I'd go with something that at least partially linked with brand name. For the email marketing problem, I strongly think this "FREE" word problem can be taken care, if you implement some latest email marketing strategies like Email Schema Markup. You can also work out on the useless traffic by creating some great and targeted content. From the SEO perspective, if you have good amount of quality links at your original branded domain, I'd suggest you to go with it. Let's see what other experts recommends! Good luck! Umar
