Examine the impact of paid search marketing and its relationship with organic search.

  • Turns out our GA wasn't set up properly and all the traffic, paid and organic, are under the same view in GA, so they're all going into SEO Moz that way too. Found the source of the problem there

  • Hey Guys, I think this post is going to help me out a lot!  I've been paying out the nose for my advertising on Google over the year with as you can well imagine a certain sense of frustration.  I got the inkling this was what I needed to do as I can see now my structure has been way to careful on my campaigns. Thanks, Scott

  • It's an account level tag that works across any webpages on any domains it's included on.  I've used remarketing pixels on microsites we run on separate domains, and within e-mails we send to target to those users with ads from our main site.

  • Thanks for the response. I will look into EdgeRank a little bit more. As for the posts, we only post select content (not every single post) that would appeal to our fans on Facebook and yes of course we interact with them.

  • If your content is changing it will definitely affect your SEO positioning.  Though there's no way of telling if it will have a positive or negative impact. One thing I would suggest is make sure that you are using the proper keywords in your content(no keyword stuffing) and that you use the proper keywords in page titles, meta, etc. Beyond that it's all up to the content you put in place.

  • You can get your competitor's trademarked terms to appear in your ads. There's a simple loophole, 3 words: dynamic keyword insertion. Boom.

  • Contact AdWords support. They are very helpful with these kinds of issues.

  • We've been trialling WordMatch for around two weeks now and I am a bit suspicious as to whether or not any of what they do is actually automated, or if they are just outsourcing management to [insert low cost of living country here]. The only trend I can see by using, the 'Adword's Change History' is that every day they increase around 5 keywords, and then every third day, they decrease 3 words. It all seems a little strange to me, as I would expect a lot more to be happening than this. Paul.

  • Thanks for being patient while I did some digging. First, I think because you aren't a huge spender you need a flat rate.  This is going to make payments predictable and you can really start to value the work being done and trust the manager of the account. Your money will go toward working for you, rather than being micromanaged at the bid level. Second, when you are calling around and making decisions about who to work with be aware of their internal structure. If you were my client at Distilled, I would be your point of contact and I would be the one working on your account. I think you should look for a company with an internal structure where you will also have this direct path for communication because you know you are getting pure, unadulterated information on your account. Recommendations:: The moment you've been waiting for! Because I think it's so important that you have a flat rate, I'd suggest GetSquare.co.uk, I spoke with a trusted, knowledgeable friend here who said "for small spend accounts we generally charge a fixed monthly management fee that covers optimisation, management & reporting." They're located up in Edinburgh, if location matters to you. Another alternative to Anicca would be Boom-Online.co.uk. I also know first hand that there are knowledgeable people here who you can trust. They are located in Nottingham. They do a review, then off the back of the review price a one time set up fee, then it's a flat fee based on spend & number of campaigns. Whatever you do, be sure you feel you are getting the most out of your preliminary conversations with any agency you are working with. Let me know if this information has been helpful, or if you have any lingering questions!

  • It depends on the industry i have seen 30% click fraud - google tends to credit back the money but it could max out a daily budget. -You can also have google to a special audit to see if any strange click patterns are happening.

  • I got this one yesterday as well. All of the sudden I saw 200-300 visitors in the live screen (live view Google analytics). When checking more in-depth all these 1e100.net records were tracked as different keywords (about 30+ different keywords) from organic search. I see the explanation from Google, but I don't understand why they do this (is it just normal crawlers) and why they don't filter it out of Analytics?

  • I've noticed the same thing, while the initial 'insta-change' may be alarming, when you check back just a few mins later the QS adjusts.

  • Many thanks for your response.  I was only asking to check that it wasn't a 'they're on borrowed time' kind of situation before I parted with any cash

  • Bristolweb, I would approach it this way (and have with other sites): Create a page on Kayaking versus Canoeing. Explain how they are different with really good content written by someone who is a subject matter expert (your client with the help of a good copywriter for example). You optimize around the canoeing portion and you are not sacrificing anything in the eyes of your kayaking clients (you did not sell out to those lowly canoe people). You are simply showing why they should switch.... But if they meant kayaking, Voila! Hope it helps,

  • It goes the same for Forbes. http://onforb.es/SUetXL I saw this page on Google News. (150-word comment on a 12 month old video, there's your fresh, unique content!). Just look at the page, it has at least 4 adsense units on the same page, not to mention other ad units. It also has this floating ad on the right sidebar. Look at the image attached. See how it ranks with 150 words and a 1 year old video? Unique content, page quality, Adsense TOS bla bla bla... j7gyt.jpg
