Social Content Posting - Post to Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter and Linked in at the same time
Hi Susan, Thanks for your response, I did some research and it appears two services have good offerings in this space (note, your suggestion is what allowed me to find this research). 1. Ping.fm - seems to be the best social content aggregator 2. Hootsuite as recommended by you, allows multiple social accounts on the same network to be managed and adds other layers of capability. 3. You apparently can connect the two as per this link: http://blog.hootsuite.com/ping-tastic-pingfm-integration-is-here/ Other peoples feedback indicates it works well, will start to try myself and give feedback via this question in 30 days. Thanks very much for your response!

How do website owners gain from facebook scams like this?
Thanks Sha, but I still don't get it. What's the benefit of having ten thousand social mentions on a domain that will never get used for anything else? Or do they eventually build something else on that domain and then create a backlink to one of their sites?

URL's for videos to increase page value and social sharing value
hmm this is only going to take you to the section of the page where the video is located www.website.com/product1.aspx#video not the actual video itself since it is opening in a lightbox. if these videos are amazing you should host them yourself and put them on a separate URL for maximum SEO benefit and try to get them ranked, and have a video thumbnail show up on the SERPS Hosting externally and opening in a lightbox won't bring any SEO value.

Is there such a concept as 'Social Juice'?
Thanks for you comments ... If you were Google and you heard everybody on FB and Tw clammoring about a website... you would probably pay attention. But surely that isn't the whole story. For example, this article in the UK based Independent newspaper has a PA of 50 & and a DA of 86.Surely if I'm involved in a discussion on a page of that quality it must have a positive effect of my 'social juice'? The comments are closed on this particular article however I would have been able to add a comment via a Disqus direct login, or via Twitter of FB, etc. and I guess fundamentally I'm trying to work out the most effective way to comment on these type of articles. I'm not at all interested in generating links or social buzz for the sake of it, but when I do interact with quality articles and sites I want maximise the seo potential. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/features/is-depression-actually-good-for-you-2274662.html

Do facebook shares pass share juice the same way links pass link juice?
Exactly how and if Facebook shares affect ranking is the subject of speculation. The only hard facts are what Google tells us: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxTmZulcQZ0 Everything shared in the video is exactly what I mentioned in the initial reply. Beyond this point we can only analyze, test and draw conclusions (i.e. best guesses). Some great analysis of the topic: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/does-google-use-facebook-shares-to-influence-search-rankings http://www.seomoz.org/blog/facebook-twitters-influence-google-search-rankings A conclusion drawn from the above, which I agree with is "Earning Facebook shares (probably) will not directly boost your Google rankings (though it may have positive effects that indirectly promote links, tweets and other signals Google may use)." Based on the above sources, I maintain the position shared in the original reply. I absolutely could be wrong which I freely acknowledge. I am simply sharing the knowledge I have acquired on this topic.

What is the best social backlink checker available right now?
Hmm, i was hoping that there was a tool i could enter a url into and it would do a realtime search. I'm guessing OSE only updates their facebook backlinks once a month or so.

How are the metrics measured in Open Site Explorer?
There are "likes" and "shares". Any chance these two items are being confused? Also, if your Like button is mis-coded, it is possible to "Like" the wrong page. Another potential source of confusion, there are Likes for your facebook page, and Likes for your website page. If you determine none of the above are the issue, please share the URL. If you are not able to do so, I would suggest contacting help@seomoz.org as the help desk offers direct support of the tools.

I can't see the new Facebook Insights.
I find that Facebook can be buggy like that sometimes. Usually if you try back a bit later or the next day you'll see it. I agree with Nick, it's interesting but not data you can do much with. It's cool to see how many times your brand has been talked about, but you don't get much more information than that. At least Facebook is trying to improve and give us more info, maybe the next phase will have even more data. For now I wouldn't worry too much about it not working, give it a day or so and try again.

Moderate blog comments Yes/No? Facebook comment plugin?
I agree with Ryan for the most part. Here at SEOmoz we get so many comments for each post that if we moderated each comment, it would seriously kill the conversation. However we have a team of people who watch for spam, plus we do have moderation set up for people who have less than 25 Mozpoints and have a link in their comment. At that point one of the team members has to approve the comment, remove a spammy link or delete the comment all together. In general I'm not a fan of moderating especially if the person moderating checks comments infrequently. Nothing bothers me more than leaving a well thought out comment on someone's blog post in reply to the post itself or another comment and it taking 2 days to finally show up on the site. I wouldn't bother commenting on that blog again. There's a fine line between moderating and keeping the spam out and if you can find that you're golden. As for Facebook comments, I haven't personally implemented them on any sites but many people who use them have really loved it. Ryan linked to my post on using them and it seems like a great marketing/virality tool for sure. Facebook gives you easy moderation as well and I think it cuts back on spam quite a bit because it has to be a real user logged into Facebook in order to comment. Hope this helps!

Do links on Quora pass link juice or other SEO benefits?
Do outbound links from Quora pass link juice or other SEO benefits? Quora links in answers are marked nofollow, so they do not pass link juice nor any direct SEO benefits. I searched dozens of questions trying to find one with a link posted in the actual question but I could not find an example. Most likely, links in questions have the nofollow tag applied as well. Indirect SEO benefits may be obtained any time someone is talking about your site, your products or services. Brand recognition increases which is almost always a good thing. Some SEOs theorize nofollow links may help your overall link profile by providing a broader link base.

Is it possible to see who have liked your blog post ?
No, it's not possible for a user to see who has made thumbs up and thumbs down. There was an interesting discussion about thumbs down on Twitter the other day. Rand said (and I agree) that it does help minimize some flame wars, especially in the comments. Rather than a ton of people saying "that's stupid" or "I can't believe you said that", a thumbs down is a way of more politely expressing disagreement. I agree, it's never fun to see something you've written have a thumbs down and have no idea why.

Twitter Username: Keyword or Company Name?

What can be done to optimise a Facebook fan page for search?
To further enhance how a crawler sees it, or any webpage, you can turn off CSS and browse as Googlebot. Use the default user agent plug in for Firefox Use the web developer plug in to turn off CSS Also, shutting off JavaScript is good too. -Dan

Anyone have a great example of a confirmation page with a social element?
Check out www.speedtest.net. After the test, you can share your results... quite nifty.

Do facebook shares of deep links help the whole domain rank better?
Social signals, and FB shares especially, have a strong correlation with rankings; therefore to have FB shares of internal links is surely useful. But not enough! Then, just one share surely is not going to make a real difference, therefore craft those product pages so cool that it is not possible to desire to share them. A good way to improve FB shares is to integrate your site with the FB open graph and let people sign in in the site with FB connect and comment your products with FB comments.
