  • Hi I read this many times on various top blogs and community forums that if you add a plus one button on your website and people are clicking or sharing your content by that plus one button, then it helps a lot in rankings. Now is it because plus one is google's platform so google want to give it a high priority over facebook, twitter, or any other social networking platform? Isnt it a partial behavior from google because its a fact that google plus is not as popular or good as FB or twitter.

  • I agree; it's open for interpretation. However, each also has their own community behaviors. To repeat the same thing across all three, well, then why would I bother reading G+ if I can just get it with Twitter? Think about the user's perspective/ It may be more worthwhile to read up on social media best practices to better understand the expectations of those social communities so you can tighten your strategy and execution. http://www.hubspot.com/marketing-resources/ http://mashable.com/2011/04/28/14-best-practices-for-long-term-social-media-success/ http://www.slideshare.net/search/slideshow?searchfrom=header&q=social+media+best+practices

  • Hey Cole, Just a clarification: I am not saying the client should be on dedicated. We purchase from our provider fully dedicated servers that only our clients or our properties are on. So, if we have server A, it may have just one ecommerce client ,etc. Server B could be our site and 10 client sites. Each of these has no other company on it. So, either us or our clients nothing outside of that.  With many companies, they are buying monthly hosting from someone like GoDaddy and then simply marking it up. So they have 50 clients hosted all over GoDaddy, but not on a single or two servers. By keeping all "in the house" we know that there is nothing inappropriate going on. All the best, Good question BTW

  • I wish Followerwonk had the option to add Facebook and Linked in. For those of you who have used Hootsuite, is it easy to manage all of your social media accounts?

  • Excellent response. I am committed to writing great content in my niche. I know when people read it, I will indeed get a lot of real shares/likes. My primary concern is making sure people read it through a social push. I've read about the Facebook "edge algo." I need comments and shares to make sure the blog I am sharing gets on people's news feed. I can't get real shares/likes if I don't have traffic to the blog. I respect your response. Can you give me some advice on getting traffic outside of social media shares? I am not able to generate through organic rank yet. My site is on real estate sales/technology (seo/webdesign). Yes it is different.  Please advise I value the way you don't dismiss the idea but instead explain that another activity would be more productive. Please continue to assist me!

  • Hi Simon, Thanks for your comment. I am very well aware of the things you explained and our social media is doing already great regarding what you said. I was just curious about what I asked in my qn.

  • No hard evidence of social influencing search rankings - and I've been looking hard. So the best thing to optimize for is usefulness of content (and the good news is that this boosts social signals as well)

  • Since the new timeline roll out it is very difficult to keep people engaged.  From my point of view Facebook took the traffic away from businesses so they could turn around and charge them to promote the information.  Having tested this over several facebook pages I have found that it is best to use the promote feature (located at the bottom right of any facebook post on your business page).  It sucks that Facebook took away the reach but they have replaced it with a fairly inexpensive way of reaching lots of people.  I have a Facebook page for freelancing professionals that gets a lot of engagement.  The page has 11k fans and most of my posts are actually seen by about 11k people (although it is because some of my fans are sharing the page).  Last week I pushed a post on the site and then went and promoted it for a budget of $50.  The return for me was that 72k people saw the post, 178 liked, multiple comments, and an additional 200 fans were gained.  I promoted to fans and friends of fans.  I don't like that back in the spring Facebook took 2/3 of my facebook traffic away from all sites but replacing it with "promote" was a pretty smart move and gives me a way to get my content out in from of a bunch of people.  Hope this helps.

  • I believe you're actually referring to Google's Knowledge Graph that is tied in a bit to G+. Is your G+ account active?  Are you actively posting using it?  If not Google might not see it as a valid account.  You also need to get it verified. This article might help: http://www.localseoguide.com/google-plus-takes-over-google-knowledge-graph-for-brands/

  • Those buttons will have been created by the company themselves and styled to look like a Facebook button. I'm sure they will create post to their Timeline saying something along the lines of "I want this...insert link to product". You can do this using Open Graph. If you have no experience with it I would suggest starting here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/opengraph/tutorial/

  • I'm glad... Well, sort of anyway.  The reason I started digging around more was that I was thinking that would be a great product to put together if no-one was doing it.  Happy you have the solution you were looking for, but slightly disappointed that you didn't lead me to a great business opportunity!

  • I haven't seen this occur for any local business brands - it tends to happen on larger national brands with an established presence. This isn't paid, it's part of Google Knowledge Graph and/or Google Plus. However for almost all brand results I have seen that get this result, it pulls information from their brand's Google+ business page, so I'd say that's essential. Other elements like a completed Wikipedia entry and a large fan/follower base on Google+ will also play a role. So in regards to a small business, it's not going to happen quickly. What type of niche are you in where your competitors are getting this and you're not?
