  • Thanks for the reply. Yep, it's what I thought. This must have caught a lot of people out since there were no pages to start with. I guess I'll keep the profile going as long as possible but focus on the page

  • Hi Jeff, There is no limit in social media as far as content is shared by real user. You will find many blogpost in seomoz which are shared by 500+ times in Twitter, facebok, Linkedin, Google+ etc. The more awesome content is, the more it get shared.

  • I think that's a great start Samuel, so I'm just gonna expand on a few points. To increase the likelihood of the user/brand following you, you need to offer them value and be relevant to their interests.  There's a few obvious ways you can do this - tweet things about their industry, even directly @mention them as well with questions.  Another way would be to get in front of them - start appearing on the websites they visit. You can attempt to do this with Tweet Archivist.  Currently still free, so be quick.  Enter this search term - filter:links from:TWITTERHANDLE - with twitter handle obviously being the person you want to target.  This will bring up a list of tweets from that person that contained links.  If you visit the top URLs tab, you may be able to see certain domains popping up more frequently.  Therefore, it would be safe to assume that the user/brand enjoy reading things from that website.  If you could become a writer there, you could impress the target. In addition, while I would use followerwonk to find prospects, I wouldn't use twitter straight away to approach them.  I'd actually use Google+.  We're all longing for more reasons to use Google+, but it is very much underused (and not as oversaturated as Twitter) at this moment in time.  Therefore, your outreach and/or message is more likely to be picked up and responded to there - as it gives us an excuse to use Google+! These are just some ideas to help you on your way.  I'd definitely read through Richard Baxter's slideshare on SEOGadget's method of acquiring links too, as I believe there are a few takeouts from there. Hope this helps!

  • Well, I'm kinda disappointed that I figured a way around my problem without taking the route to which you directed me. I was able to create a dummy page, like the Page, go in and make myself manager - all functionality seems to be restored. I believe I took up hoop jumping when it wasn't necessary. I'm bookmarking this link though. Again thanks for your quick and informative response.

  • Going back to issues related to rel=publisher ... Linking your brand's website to your Google+ brand page using the rel=publisher attribute (and vice versa) will verify ownership of the page, and may give your website a slight advantage in search rankings as you build up the value of your Google+ brand page. It may or may not help your brand make it into Google's Knowledge Graph (but is certainly worth a shot!), and will make you eligible for Google+ Direct. Google is also now using rel=publisher to determine relevancy. You should place the attribute on your most important page of your website (usually the home page). Do not place it on multiple pages. I hope this helps! Christy

  • Thank you, Charles. Unfortunately your answer wasn't exactly what I needed, but I appreciate your contribution.

  • Domain authority is primarily a function of the number of links that your site has. Since links from Facebook are nofollowed, it won't have any effect on your DA. Getting more likes on your site can get your site ranking higher in personalized Bing searches, but that's about it.

  • Hi Mike, Long story, short. I started monitoring the pages because the provider had a really strange answer when we asked them what sort of "maintenance" was being done each month on our FB pages and Google+ pages when we didn't see the content change. We were told that they were optimizing the pages each month to rank well on SERPS and it was all backend-not visible, but required high level of expertise. Well, I have been monitoring the pages for 2 months now and nothing has changed with the exception of the cover photo that we provided. They said the account used to create the pages had some sort of special authority (ranking juice) that gave them better results than the average user. I think it is BS too. It is starting to feel like I need to be an expert in order to keep this "expert provider" honest. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

  • Try and avoid doing this because at the point Google catches on to what is happening, penalties will be handed out. Just concentrate on writing blog posts and building links the natural way. It can be time consuming, but think about the articles you write and try and make them something completely unique that people will want to link to. Also have a read of this post and watch the video from Matt Cutts http://www.inetseo.co.uk/seo/what-links-do-google-want-to-see/2012/10 Andy

  • Hi Charles, I have to disagree if the phrase "direct impact" means higher rankings. Here's why.... I buy Facebook Likes through Facebook ads. Matt Cutts wouldn't allow people to "buy" their way to #1 based off social signals. Same thing with Tweets. However, if you mean "direct impact" as being getting more referral traffic to a site, then yes it can help pushing people from Facebook to a site.

  • I had started using Google+ for one simple reason, to save from using the pinging services I had at the time and get quicker crawls of new content.  (The necessity of the pings I am not sure of but to post on G+ and see the bot within moments I have no doubt about it.) Now, I am thinking about getting more involved as the Google+ hangouts can be live cast on YouTube and then stay available. You can use your comments section as a user chat and build a nice set of relevant keywords around your video and your link to site.  We are doing some testing on it now. I have 9300 followers on twitter, a couple thousand on FB and 24 on G+.  I have made my best contacts from social media out of the 24.

  • IIRC, you can still use Twitter as a trigger, but you can't read what's going on in Twitter to start something off.  Basically, you can do the "that" part, but not the "this"!

  • Thanks Tom. This helps. All  I need to do now is to clarify for myself what to post on the personal and business account as both will  need followers etc.
