  • Lots of people ask why they are not getting into Google News. It is hard to get into Google News.   I would like to be in Google News but I don't meet their strict and numerous guidelines.   You can find them here.  There are journalistic, technical, content and other types of requirements. https://support.google.com/news/publisher/answer/40787?hl=en

  • Both Google + Bing should be fairly accurate coming directly from the actual companies data. So..., are Bing users typical kind of users who uses other search phrases? Could very well be true. The fact that there in this case and for most people as well about 10x more search volume is definitely part of the issue. Hope this helps

  • dont forget to submit  a new sitemap to google within GWT AFTER you finish your removals and other changes as suggested. that should also force google to act a bit faster than it would otherwise do in recognizing the changes. http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/08/submit-urls-to-google-with-fetch-as.html

  • Id like to open this discussion back up.  About a month ago, I made some changes to the Google+ profile and the client has agreed to change the address away from the PakMail in hopes of better results. The Google Plus Local and Google Places accounts have merged yet still when searching Maps for austin wedding photographer she is on page 9. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=austin+wedding+photographer&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&channel=np&ie=UTF-8&ei=u0cuUtzePJKO2gW494DwBA&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAg Anyone see anything else really wrong with the profile? https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/114370561649922317296/114370561649922317296/posts

  • That does help Thomas, and I would add that I see the benefit of a forum for community building. In some instances I think forums could be a huge benefit. What I am seeing on the forum that we manage is a smaller and smaller number of users asking questions and starting topics. We still get a good number of eyeballs checking out older posts though...  lots of lurkers. Many questions that used to end up on the forum are now being directed to live chat, facebook, blog comments, etc. In general most forums I see feel very outdated to me, so I am wondering if anyone has seen any great examples of what they would consider more "modernized versions of forums that are successful?

  • This sounds like Verizon's "Search Assist" page, which is shown to Verizon users when they miss-type a URL or try to access a domain that doesn't exist. How this happened to spike is anyone's guess. Here are two likely possibilities... 1. The browser hijack mentioned by Mike Roberts above could be trying to send Verizon users to a domain that doesn't exist, but is similar to yours (e.g. yourdomain.com and yourdomain.info) so when their browser tries to access the domain Verizon redirects them to their "Search Assist" page with similar results, including yours. 2. A company similar to yours, or perhaps even your own, could have been featured on a television show (e.g. Good Morning America) with a large viewing audience that isn't super web-savvy. Instead of typing YourBrandDomain.com into the URL bar they might think of it as a search bar and type "Your Brand" instead, resulting in the redirect to Verizon's "Search Assist" page of search results, which lists your domain as one of the results.

  • You have to update your blog, and when the Google Starts to Crawl regularly - no problem for you. But you should add the Timestamp in the post or article content. !

  • Hi IMM, What page are you trying to fix? And what did you change in the robots.txt file to fix it?

  • I can't say for certain about the volume increasing overall, but image search has changed tons. What I can do is point you to a GA hack that allows you to see if your traffic is coming from image or not. http://moz.com/blog/decoding-googles-referral-string-or-how-i-survived-secure-search

  • That's great!  As you come across more questions about Adwords or Analytics, post more questions!  I'm always on the lookout for the PPC questions on the Q&A forum here.

  • Have you read this? http://www.hiswebmarketing.com/yes-high-quality-guest-posts-can-get-you-penalized/ I agree with the author, Marie Haynes, that you can get in trouble through guest posting. One topic that she did not cover in this article (because it focused on the Penguin problems), is that giving guest posts to other websites that are relevant to the content of your website is that it feeds your competitors and creates new ones. I will say that a lot of people disagree with my ideas about guest posting.  I think that they view it as a necessary way to gain links.  I think that it is like gladly allowing someone to take over your business because you think it will bring a little traffic to your website.

  • There is also Authority Labs https://authoritylabs.com/pricing/ The pricing/domains/keywords are similar to myseotool.com, but myseltool.com beats it out at the beginner level. I use Authority Labs right now, but I'm definitely going to watch this thread closely as I just started using them and I'd be open to moving for a less expensive or greater feature tool.

  • Hey Eric, Try Ubbersuggest (http://ubersuggest.org/) We use this and find it a huge time saver! We populate our list and then plug it into Adwords keyword tool for traffic and competition estimates. If you're only concerned with suggestions and if they auto-complete though, Ubersuggest will do the trick!
