Finally have a budget for a great seo ecommerce site but need help choosing wordpress, joomla, modx, magneto or? Thank you in advance for your generosity of time
Being a fulltime web developer with over 500+ sites in the past 12+ years, I can tell you from experience that we've used/seen/fixed/tried all these options that people have discussed and we've come back to the oldie & goldie each time in Wordpress. Here's a couple quick reasons: 1. It has a TON of man hours into developing a platform that isn't perfect, but works better than 99.99% of all people/companies could put together. 2. It is proven and it WORKS solid. 3. There are tons of plugins that make your site do what you'd like it to do. Don't have one with a function that you are wanting? Either code the functionality directly into the site or build your own plugin and have it do exactly what you'd like. 4. It's extremely flexible to work with to get it to do/integrate with whatever you'd like. 5. It's easy to find developers to work on it since there are a lot of WP developers out there that can help you out. Some of these other platforms, if your developer leaves you, then you're sunk. Those are just 5 quick reasons why we recommend WP and keep coming back to it. I can't even begin to tell you the number of clients that we've gotten because their developer recommended a solution or custom built them a platform, then the developer went out of business, got lost on a boat in the middle of the sea, or just completely quit returning phone calls and they left the customer out to die. Then the client calls us and has to make another decent investment for us to build them something brand new from scratch on WP. The most recent, was with a client who had their custom built platform for 3 months and the developer disappeared. Sorry to say but these stories happen all the time. That's why we're not cheap, but we take amazing care of our clients day & night (including sending them $100 of cookies like we did for a client yesterday. LOL!) Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

URL structure for multiple cities?
If it's just a few cities, it's probably not a big deal either way, and the search results could give you a landing page. If you really plan to expand down the road, I think I'd go with your alternative approach, at least for now. Keep Google on the main site, and you can let users select their appropriate city page (and cookie that). If, down the road, you've got a good structure and solid back-links, and you want to open up the city pages to crawlers, you can always change that later. It's not black-and-white, but in 2012 I think it's best to go out narrow and really focus your link profile on your core pages, expanding once you've got the authority and history to make it work.

For a new business which would be the best domain name?
I bought the domain whitbyjet.com for $300 and I'm pleased that I've got such a specific domain name with the two main keywords. Thanks for the help

What is a really great bounce rate for a product or service site? What does Good look like?
Actually better! 0.7% WOW. ...if only... Interesting thought on header/footer though our JS is at bottom so not a 'slow' load.

Broad Phrase keywords as domain name
I spend most of my time working with a generic/keyword rich domain name and as a company grows it really does cause branding issues. That being said, purely from an SEO perspective there are some benefits. If your domain name includes a keyword then most of the time that people link to you they will use your domain name/brand name in the anchor text and within the body of the linking article.

Japanese & Mandarin Fonts
Awesome! I wasn't clear on whether they were keeping the fonts as PDF or converting to HTML, so I made an assumption and dove right in. "Low quality letters" is a tough thing to define. From a technical standpoint, all fonts are vector-based so they will reproduce well at any size and not be pixelated or anything, especially in PDF. So that aspect of "quality" shouldn't concern you. But the style of a font may make it more / less readable or appropriate. Like English text, Japanese text can be styled in different ways while keeping the same meaning. Some may be more artistic, some more technical looking, etc. For example: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/type/search.cfm?loc=EN&term=kozuka&store=OLS-US&category_type=Package&go=Go To really get an idea of which font is appropriate for your situation, you may need to find someone who reads Japanese and Mandarin to help you make a subjective decision. You won't want to use a heavily decorated font if you're dealing with a technical specification document, for instance. Honestly, try posting an ad on Craigslist and someone will probably help for free or a very small fee. Or inquire by email at your local Japanese Society or something similar. I would use that as a guide in choosing the right font, as well as price perhaps. I'm sure you'd be able to find some free fonts that meet your needs instead of paying. Unfortunately I can't install any of the fonts from the web page you provided, so I'm not able to say if there are any other technical reasons why they may or may not work. Again, someone who can read the languages would be able to tell you if any symbols are missing from the font file, for instance, just like how some English fonts may not have accented characters, or mathematical characters, etc. If you purchase a font from a reputable source they often show you the exact character map that you'll get. I hope this was more helpful this time!

How many sites on one hosting account?
I have about 25 sites on an unlimited HostGator account right now ($8 per month I think), most of them get minimal traffic (few thousand visitors per month), but a couple of them are pushing 30k-50k per month and I will most likely have to move them. Using it as a starting point is fine for new sites until they begin to gain traffic, then move them to better hosting. That's my humble opinion anyway

How SEO friendly (or unfriendly) this site structure is
Paul, Frankly, for a music site - indy type, I like it a lot. I generally do not like the long pages. Using the HTML5 to change to help users (thanks Tommy) is cool. As to the use in a different type site I think you have to be more careful. Sites should be defined by the queries and the users and built from there. We do a bit of WebDev and have a rule with our clients. You must follow our process if we are to build you a site. It won't work otherwise for us or them. So, we stress function first: What do you want to achieve with the site? Most in business want clients, customers, sales, etc. but many get lost in having a cool site. Most in professional practices want new clients/patients but get lost in wanting to speak about how good they are or what great works they do. This does not create search results that work for them. You must get the client to understand that if they are not an indy band or a cutting edge resource this will be a bit more of a pain for a user looking to answer a query. We live in a drive through world and we want our latte now dammit! Best

Panda and Penquin Fall - Could HTML Design an Issue?
Thanks for the comments Cyrus, I think your post is making me rethink my strategy I guess I am just tyring to fix the wrong items, I was focusing on other areas because I never really went after backlinks to any degree so I thought how in the world could I be demoted for links. We have a small online directory where we offered backlinks but we only allowed links that really was a benefit for our customers. Mostly translators who did a service we did not offer. I think where we got in trouble is we had it set up with a sample link with a keyword in it so they would put a link to us in hopes we would exchange but they were never accepted but they did not remove the link to us. Our directory only has 65 links after panda/penquin, we had 100 before. Again thanks, I will focus on the backlinks more now. Never thought we would be hit by negative seo :-(. So much for doing White Hat all these years. Force7

Footer Links Good or bad?
There's absolutely nothing wrong with footer links per se. It's just the fact that it's an inconspicuous part of the site, so SEOs have thought it was an easy place to sneak in some good links. One example that I have (I won't dive into the details too much), is a competing SEO company in my local. He has the most SEO-friendly name you can could imagine, and he tosses his SEO-friendly/anchor text-rich name into the footer of all the sites that he works on. His link profile consists of almost all blog comments and these footer links. He ranks super high for 'SEO big name city', when there are clearly much, much more authoritative sites that should be showing up ahead of him. So you definitely can't say that search engines are discarding the value of footer links.

Self hosted or YouTube Hosted Videos for SEO?
I think it's best to use YouTube or another video host versus having the videos on your site. And, then be sure to send the SE's a video sitemap. Here's a pretty good write up: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/video-sitemap-guide-for-vimeo-and-youtube

URL parameters causing duplicate content errors
So far I have not found a way to exclude that from the SEOmoz scan of the website. The good news is the GWT doesn't show duplicate content errors like SEOmoz does. If anything you can send a feature request to see if that can get taken care of.

Will upgrading my dedicated server improve my site speed
I'm not familiar with Joomla, but you should be figuring out how to get serverside caching enabled. Looks like they have their own implementation, so you probably don't need an extension. If you aren't familiar with the code found on this page, you should probably hire someone qualified to do it.

Why can't I ask this question - It is not too short
I tried to post a question which was at least 15 words long and received an error saying the question was less than 5 characters Blips happen. Just try again. This question worked fine.
