Severe ranking loss in a week
Ali, I did take some time and look over site. How long has it been up in its current form? The reason I ask is it appears you have done the canonical redirect so that www. and non www of site resolve but it is not showing yet in OSE. When you look at the www. of same OSE shows different result but no Site:www pages show. This would lead me to believe you changed it in the last 6 to 7 weeks. Also, on your linking, the root domains of your links are all just link directories and you need some "quality" other links. Try Active Rain (a real estate blog site) etc. If you can give us a couple of key words that fell off it would help. Now, most of your links go to your home page. In the content of your home page you do not have any internal links going out. Pick two or three pages on your site where you really want to share some juice, and do a link in the first paragraph of the content. Do not do two links to same page as it is not advantageous. If there is only one page you want do one, but probably not more than 3. Also, you need some serious on site on page SEO for this. Your title tags, etc are all off, you are not optimizing key words, etc. Your title tag when doing a search for Qatar (http://qatar.smart-realestate.com/property-gallery) is Luxurious.......for rent or sale in Bahrain. So there are issues. Your urls have upper and lower case letters which you need to change. Urls should be all lower case. So, there you have it. This does not tell you why you were up and then fell, but my guess is the site was newer, got a kick up, and now is moving to its real world rank. Hope this helps you out.

If you got hit by a google update what you do first?
Hi Max, It is difficult to comment without seeing your website. However, if you are constantly loosing rankings with every search engine update you could have low quality content or have grey/black hat link building techniques happening offsite. These types of techniques are short lived, the search engines smart, and will result in inconsistent rankings. BTW - I'm not implying you have a junk site. Address your content (there are plenty of good articles in the SEOMoz Blog here) and secure some quality links to ride out future algo changes. Hope that helps. Cheers, Andrew

After on-page is perfect, then what?
The deeper you go into the rankings the more flux you will see - because all of the shuffle above and below can jostle you around. Also, for sites with a DA in the teens you should expect more shuffle than those with a lot higher DA. To close... for the past few weeks I have been seeing more than normal flux in most of the product SERPs that I am watching. The moves that you describe are not surprising, I would say they are common.

Duplicate videos
I have no idea, it is possible to tell if 2 videos are the same, but having even the slightest difference would make that hard. My guess is that they would not know, from what I know I would think it would be hard to do and take a lot of resources.

Google SERP UI in December
Google definitely do split testing. Like Kane said, I've also had differing results from the same account, plus they also bring in changes then withdraw them again a few days later! I'd say that if its there 2 weeks later, it's probably there to stay and SEOs are going to be talking about it at SEO roundtable / SEL etc. See how it pans out before jumping to any conclusions.

Data on Google Vs Bing, et al and changes to sites.
Hi Robert. There's this article posed by Rand in June 2010: Google vs. Bing: Correlation Analysis of Ranking Elements And later that month there was this: Bing vs. Google: Prominence of Ranking Elements Would be interesting to see how/if this has changed.

Google.ca English and French returning different rankings
There is definitely some reason that Google thinks your site should rank higher in one and not the other. Perhaps in English (though you were totally right about those French results even when you push 'English only'), there's more competition for the keyword? Is your site a local one? Perhaps Google feels based on location that your site is more relevant to those that live in the French-speaking areas of Canada?

How do these people have so many external back links?
It is likely you are looking at the root domain's links. Instead, you want to look at the subdomain links. For the most part, the primary domain's links are irrelevant. You only care about the subdomain's links. For example, if you site is noah.wordpress.com, the wordpress.com links do not benefit your site. Only the links to noah.wordpress.com are helpful. It can be confusing but using wordpress.com as an example, you will see the root domain has 245 million links. If you are using the SEOmoz bar, right before you see the DA and total number of links notice it says "root domain". Use the drop down to change it to subdomain.

Videos increase ranking of products in SERPS from Ecommerce Website
I think if you have a page of content for arguments sake on bannanas and you add three to four relevant videos on bannans its got to help for sure in making the page more relevant. It will help with Bounce rates also so help towards algo factors.

Are the tags from schema.org beneficial for SEO?
Thanks everyone. Looks like the biggest benefit at the moment would be for product vendors. I can't see any obvious places to use these identifiers if my content is largely definition-based. (e.g., a page where I define a specific accounting term or procedure.) Am I missing something?

Duplicate Content
It is duplicate content. However, that might be the least of your concerns. You are going to have to compete directly with Vimeo, Youtube, IMDB and the companies that produce these movies. That's a lot of high dollar companies to fight with for rankings.

FLASH vs HTML links in SEO
From Search Engine Land July 2008. Google can now crawl and index Flash files Google has been working on improving how they crawl and index rich content (such as Flash and JavaScript) for some time, and in fact have been able to extract some text and links from Flash files for a while. However, their methods weren’t perfect, and they tell me that this new technology from Adobe makes Google’s algorithms “less error prone” and enables them to access content created in any version of Flash in a variety of languages. From the link in the Search Engine Land piece above: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2007/07/best-uses-of-flash.html Since all of this was from 2007/2008, I believe there have been strides beyond but could not find any quotable sources. If your use is as you describe, I do not see it as a problem.Google with Youtube says they make sure there is content and HTML around it, etc. Today in SEO there are a lot who will say not to use flash; I do not think that is a reasoned comment. There are places for it and places where it is too obtrusive. I hate flash intros for example. Hope this helps,

When Google crawls and indexes a new page does it show up immediately in Google search - "site;"?
That's what I suspected -- thank you!

SERPS Issue. Why is this happening?
Hey Alexander, Your first two URLs are more relevant for those keywords in their meta description and title tags from the page source. You could try to position the exact phrase "Georgia Mortgage Lender Bond" into the title tag and meta description of the URLs which need a boost. Another thing to try would be to expand on your unique content a little bit for each URL by writing a bit more. Jared

Ranking problem
I have seen the same thing for one of my clients. They were ranking page 1/2 for 2 different keyword terms and now they are not in the top 50. Other keyword phrases did not move as much. I am looking around to see what happened or if there was some sort of update...
