  • ok, I'm just helping out a friend who showed me this site.  I have no idea how it was built.  So, do you think this site is indexable and SEO friendly?

  • Hi Robert, Basically when you load your website, all the content that shows without scrolling down is called "Above the fold", Hence the term Below the fold, means all the content that will appear when you scroll down to see the rest of your site. take a look at this article (http://andrewhansen.name/affiliate-marketing/google-checkmates-me-but-reveals-internal-secrets/) it shows that Google have the ability to know what is above or below the fold and can calculate the ratio of content / Ads. And Concerning Ehow, Josh Hannah (Former Owner of Ehow) gave his 2 cents of why EHow didn't get hit with the Panda Update. (http://www.quora.com/Why-doesnt-Google-push-down-low-quality-results-from-sites-such-as-eHow-the-same-way-it-pushes-up-results-from-Wikipedia/answer/Josh-Hannah)

  • Hi Mathew, a bunch of UK SEOs are keeping an eye out on the UK Roll out of the Panda update - however there isnt any hard evidence to prove that it has been rolled out. Infact, since Mahalo still ranks in the UK, I would say that itdef hasnt been rolled out. I would look beyond the algo change to investigate your traffic loss, UNLESS your traffic loss was from outside the UK? Have you run an analytics segment analysis where your traffic is from normally and if its lost out regionally?

  • In terms of MyBlogGuest I also know a lot of people who have had great success, but like all communities there maybe a few who abuse the system. It depends on how great the articles are and the situation the company is in, in terms of exposure online.  Just because you add the articles to your site doesnt meant that you cannot extract ideas from the same, create brand new articles and guest blog. Guest blogging is a great way to attract attention to your other content (especially if it is contained on a blog hosted from your site). MyBlogGuest seems to be a good starting point to me, but if not try going stright for the high value blogs, make sure your blogs are of high value though, and that they suit the place where you are guest posting too..

  • The recent Google update actually helped quite a bit though, we went from not being in the top 50 for some terms to being at the top of page 2, actually have a reason to work for it now!

  • First thing is remove ads that are "in your face" and concentrate on your content. Looking through that page you gave as an example, the content at the bottom is too far down - it needs to be moved higher up the page - the top would be preferable.  If needs be, use a "more" to drop down the content in its entirety. Make sure every sentence there is unique and not duplicated on other external sites. To be honest, I can see exactly why Google has knocked it down - removing your ads is the first step. The second should be to make your page content rich and interesting for your visitors. Regards, Andy

  • If you have the money spare - which it sounds like you don't - I would get a BOTW link, but only if the category you are interested in is indexed. I've bought Yahoo directory links too in the past but to be honest I wouldnt recommend either to someone on a limited budget. Of course, "limited" is a relative term. These links cost a few hundred bucks each - enough to get 20-40 good quality unique articles written and used for better purposes..

  • I'm finding very conflicting results with my clients thinking that they are ranked higher or in some cases lower than what a non-related fresh computer network shows. The social results really are changing the landscape of seo!

  • What I'm doing is going to google (clearing all pws) and setting my location to the city or state I'm trying rank higher in to find out where I'm ranking. If I set my location to the USA I rank higher but if I set my location to a state like Texas I'm not ranking as high as when I set my location to the USA. I do have backlinks with both city and state in them. The keyword is "(product) prices." The Keyword is a very generic. I have not tried to get links form local or state websites. Have you used this strategy? Thanks

  • Local search is a bit different than universal search and yes, you there are things you can do off-site to optimize the results.  This Whiteboard Friday touched on the basics: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-basics-of-local-seo-whiteboard-friday. You may also want to check out the list of Local Ranking Factors on David Mihm's site http://www.davidmihm.com/local-search-ranking-factors.shtml. Hope this helps!

  • You think the catalog duplicate content hurt the top terms on different pages? I can't see how I would replace the manufacturer's description on a half million items/pages. Do you?

  • Depends how competitive, but around 3 days if you're lucky and the search matches Usually I only see our stories in there for 1 or 2 days tops, but then again smaller and smaller sites run with the story and our results get replaced with the same story but more recent updates. If you become the authority on that story (ie, lots of links and references) I would imagine you could stay in there for longer, but alas, never seen it.
