Is there an issue with my site?
Hey David, Have you noticed similar fluctuation for your competitors on TOP 3 positions as well? Google sometimes change the SERP randomly to provide diverse results for the users. But this doesn't look like the case. Do you have any blog on your website? You have the article for "Nikon CLS" but if you have only one on your site, it might be not enough. I'd start publishing regularly on your site which should massively help with the rankings. Cheers, Martin

I have never seen this in Google SERPs before?
What you are seeing is google showing you specific papers on cancer trials and how many other papers have cited these trials. It is an organic listing. It is part of the Google Scholar search engine https://scholar.google.com/schhp?hl=en&as_sdt=5,31&sciodt=0,31 You can read more about google scholar here https://scholar.google.com/intl/en/scholar/about.html Thanks, Don

Redirects & Authority when Updating Product Pages
Hi Becky Essentially yes although htaccess is for Apache servers only so check with your developer/platform host that they have been inserted correctly. Then find a few old URLs and satisfy yourself they are redirecting to the new ones, Best Regards Nigel

Strange: page no longer present in SERPS and I'm not sure why
Hi there, To chime in, I also think it's worth mentioning that there are many important factors involved here, so us taking random guesses might or might not be as helpful as having a total list of the possibilities: Google’s 200 Ranking Factors: The Complete List by Brian Dean for Backlinko http://backlinko.com/google-ranking-factors Best of luck! Single topic website or as part of a multiple topic website?
Hey Kate, I'd stick with the original one. In case of changing, you'd risk drop in rankings for 18 months which is quite long period of time. On top of that, Google likes bigger pages so multiple topic shouldn't be a problem. Cheers, Martin

Is Canonical Tags a Good Option With 2 Similar Sites?
We had this issue with products which we sell on two different websites, that Google would rank one or the other, randomly swapping them out for each other in the rankings. We used cross-domain canonicals to solve this and it has fixed the issue for us, i.e. the website we want to rank now ranks for these products, the other one doesn't. If you use canonicals, it will most likely mean that only the main page will rank (the canonical URL).

Why do sites w/o structured data beat me for rich snippets?
Hi Alex, I think you are talking about featured snippets here, not rich snippets. There is no structured data markup that will help you get featured snippets. Google uses an algorithm to determine which page it thinks answers the search query the best and pulls through a snippet from that page into the SERPs. If you are not familiar with featured snippets and how to optimize your content to increase your chances of getting them, I would suggest reading/listening to the following resources: What We Learned From Analyzing 1.4 Million Featured Snippets Ahrefs’ Study Of 2 Million Featured Snippets: 10 Important Takeaways Seizing The Featured Snippet Gold Rush w/Rob Bucci [Podcast] I also wrote an in-depth guide on how to find easy featured snippet opportunities for you website, which might help you. SEO implications of off-site secure Donation page
Hi James, Great question! My two cents would be as follows: Firstly, I'm assuming that there is no way that you can make the responsive pages show up with the same domain as the current non-responsive site. I'm guessing that you are building these pages on a different platform than the main site, but it is possible to use multiple platforms on a single domain (for instance, many websites build their blog on Wordpress and their main site using something different) - so I'm curious about why in this case you are choosing to make it a totally separate domain. Assuming that this is the only way to do it, my first question would be: are these pages something that would be indexed normally on the main site? You mention they are 'Action' pages - search engines may not need to index transaction pages, for example, where the only purpose is to submit a payment or sign up for something. Unless you also expect these pages to rank as entry pages, but if users are navigating to these pages primarily from a different landing page, they may not be relevant to search engines at all. If this is the case, and you are still concerned about appearing to send users to a different website, you could consider making the donate button to these pages initially link to a page on the existing domain (like www.maindomain.org/secure) which could then immediately redirect to the secure version. You could nofollow this link and block the transaction pages on the other domain from search (I usually see no reason to have purely transactional pages indexed, but I may be missing some context in this case.) However, this may run the risk of looking like you are trying to do something sneaky with redirects. You could also include a note on the first page (the one the user is on before being taken to the secure site), next to that 'donate'/'signup' button/link that states "by clicking this link, you will be taken to our secure platform at 'domain.com' to complete your donation/signup". I do like the idea of including the name of the charity in this secondary domain if possible, to help make it clear that they are connected. You could optimize the pages' meta data to include the name of the charity as well. I don't believe there is a negative consequence (generally speaking) to sending a user off-site - unless you appear to be running some sort of 'doorway' page scheme, or using sneaky redirects to show Google one thing and the user something else. My one caveat: I'm not sure what you mean by "booting" the user- I could see it potentially seeming problematic if the user is automatically sent somewhere without choosing to navigate to the other domain...it could even fall under the category of 'malicious behavior'. But as long as the user is choosing to click on a link that takes them to a 'donate' or 'sign up' page, even if it's hosted on a different domain, I don't see that creating a major issue for Google.

Optimising for two countries
Hello! Unfortunately, the answer is very much "it depends"; on the client, their product, their market, and to a degree, how your commercial relationship with them is set up. Let's explore some key elements, and hopefully, you can factor some of that back into a decision on how you'd like to proceed with them. The UK and US are different markets, with different demand, different consumer behaviours, sizes, and competitors. The same keyword in both territories might have a very different competitive landscape, depending on all of these factors. Furthermore, your link profile (vs your competitors') likely varies similarly; if you've no local relevance, you're likely going to struggle. You'll be competing against specific local competitors, as well as larger global companies, on multiple fronts. Real-world factors will affect you, too. If your product/service is in the UK, how well does it compete against local offerings - particularly in terms of delivery (time, costs), availability (opening hours, response time), etc? How well-supported is international targeting on the website? Do you have a different section for each territory (e.g., example.com/us/), and is the website set up with correct hreflang tagging? In a nutshell, it'll definitely take more work and time to get everything set up, to scale any monitoring and reporting you're doing, and to grow your competitive footprint in both territories. However, there are economies of scale; you'll have a better understanding of the marketplace overall, and any content or marketing you do could (in some scenarios) benefit both territories. From a billing perspective, I'd expect it to make more sense to run it as a single, large project, rather than as multiple projects. Hopefully this is helpful; let me know if youve any questions which we haven't explored!

Why isn't Google caching our pages?
Hi there, This is a weird quirk of Google: sometimes, when their cached version of your page tries to execute some code and fails, the cached page looks blank. Here's the key: when you first load the cache, you'll get the gray banner at the top for about a second as the page tries to load, then everything will go white. In that second or so, if you quickly click on "Text Only Version," you'll see the text version of the cache, at least, and see that Google's reading and saving your content. I tried this with the page you shared, and was able to get text (picture attached). To my knowledge, this does not mean that Google isn't able to properly index your pages. But it may be worth looking closely at the text only version of the page to see if it's missing something that you load with a script. Good luck! Kristina KPVGF

Best approach to rank for this keyword?
Hey there, I'd definitely create a special page dedicated to white sandals (but only in case you don't have exactly the same sandals in a different color). Then, boost the page with internal linking through relevant anchor texts, such as "white sandals", "white sandals for women/men", "women's white sandals" etc. Then, write some kind of a viral blog post such as "How white sandals can change your life" including Australia related KW's. This should help you rank higher, for now. Cheers, Martin

Thanks Wyatt, I was curious about author tags as well.

Any issues with having a seperate shop section?
It shouldn't make a difference. After all, you'll be optimising the Shop version for 'product name', and the main site version for 'installing product name', and the content will be different - so the two pages should really be complimenting (and linking to) each other for a mutual benefit. Duplicate content doesn't stop your best page ranking by the way. It's better to think about it as a filter - if you had two identical pages, only one will ever be found, and the other might as well not exist...

Possible duplicate content issue
As I know the problem with duplicate content is related with spammer with hundreds of TDL trying to trick the search engine, in your case with 5 or 10 pages or post wouldn't be any problems. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ets7nHOV1Yo
