  • Thanks Dr. Meyers.  I did a 301 redirect for everything to go to www.  Hopefully that fixes it.  Thank You!

  • Hi, Very interesting. I've never really considered pinging much at all to be honest! I would probably say from reading the article and what I know about pinging from the past, is that it is more about having just a couple of sites you ping that are of a high quality. I don't have any lists that work particularly well but would certainly be interested in any that anyone has! Thanks for the info again Matt.

  • Sorry Peter, my previous reply looks strange, was using the iPad, not sure what happened, anyway, what I meant to say was: So just to clarify, the homepage of the website would show: And product page would be:

  • Hi Steve, Sorry for responding so late. So whenever we have a situation as having many dynamic pages optimized, I always get back to the idea of Faceted Navigation. This way you will give the Search Engines one path to crawl to each products (but be aware that you will need to invest time and energy to have a well planned, structured navigation path). What's the positive behind Faceted navigation: it will resolve the duplicate page flag on your products (giving search engines only one good specified path to crawl) it will raise the user experience as the visitors will have the chance to easily get to the desired product fast The negatives: Are there any? - Ok, seriously speaking, you will need to sit down and think a lot of which path you choose, how to resolve it to be efficient, the web dev team will work a few days/weeks (depending on their other tasks, importance of their tasks, etc.) What it will bring to your site (relative to what you have now): currently you have noindex on the "category" (basically a search page with a filter on it, right?) page. With faceted navigation this current structure will be completed with an "tree" structure to your final products on the specified path (that you have chosen). I hope this is clear and helped! Gr. Istvan

  • You can submit your blog url or each RSS feed you have one time. That's sufficient, though it's not necessary to get added. They're looking for content in a blog format, so any videos or photos contained within the post will automatically be found. Regular site pages wouldn't be appropriate to submit.

  • Hey Ryan Just finally getting to this, thanks for reaching out on Twitter and asking for my input. It seems like everyone here has already helped you out, and I do agree Only thing I'd add, is remember 301 redirects are not only for engines but for the users so always be sure they make sense from a UX point of view. And also, be sure this doesn't create a chain of redirects. If 301s were already in place on the site you're redirecting from, always try to redirect from the original source, like this; DO THIS: www.one.com/original-page.html ----> www.two.com/real-page/ www.one.com/new-same-as-original/ ----> www.two.com/real-page/ NOT THIS: www.one.com/original-page.html ---> www.one.com/new-same-as-original/ ----> www.two.com/real-page/ Communicate this to IT as best as you can, as its been said by Cutts to avoid chains of 301s if possible. Hope this all helps, let us know! -Dan

  • This is why I mentioned it might be worth my while re-arranging paragraphs from the articles, maybe adding some relevant images and changing the content slightly to avoid any cross domain duplication problems. I might go ahead and do as Highland is suggesting, I was hoping that wasn't the only way to do it.

  • Hi Victoria, I wouldn't use names like 'Online for Equine | Horse Riding Clothing | Just Togs Latina Jodhpurs'. They are what your web page titles should be like (be aware the recent over-optimisation changes Google is making though). Your image names should all be different and should be a couple of words long, just like i suggested before. So this could be: 'Riding Clothing' 'Equestrian Breeches' 'Equestrian Clothing' Try to make sure the image names are in context though or you're in danger of being penalised by Google. Another thing to look into is creating an image sitemap. This can help a lot with your image SEO. Matt.

  • I work for a language school that has offices in different cities. We're planning on setting up a Google Places page for each of the schools. They all have different addresses but use the same national phone number. Is this going to be a problem?

  • Late to this game, but just in case you're still waiting on your dev... Magento has an automated add-on system called Magento Connect, and you can access it from your admin (unless the original installer disabled it on your account). You can just use that to install Yoast's plugin. Check out http://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/canonical-url-for-magento.html Aside from that, if you are using something after 1.4, you should have canonical built into your store (it's in the config section). If you're not using something after 1.4, consider upgrading. It's not painless, but anything prior to 1.4.1 is pretty rough to use. I'm not surprised you've got bugs and general sadness.

  • Thanks, looked that over.  Not sure if that's what happened or not.  Pretty wild though, like a roller coaster right now.

  • yea this is what i was thinking to, but how big a slap are we getting, as its knocked us 100-200 places off I saw rads video the other day ago and made some extra changes, lighten the load on over optimisation. I have just removed one of the catering terms from the title, but this looks a bit excessive for over optimisation.
