  • https://sites.google.com/site/webmasterhelpforum/en/faq-rich-snippets#howlong Q: How long does it take for rich snippets to be visible? A: Once you've marked up your site's content, Google will discover it the next time we crawl your site (although it may take some time for rich snippets to appear in search results, if we do choose to display rich snippets for your site). If you're marking up your content for rich snippets, you can let us know. Google won't be able to individually reply to your message, but we may use the information you supply to improve our detection and display of marked-up content.

  • Sure!  It looks like it's happening on both the DROID Incredible by HTC as well as the DROID X by Motorola when I search for "ixl.com" or just "ixl".  You'll notice if you search on the iPhone or on a PC, our brand will rank #1 with sitelinks for these searches. Good luck figuring this out!  Maybe Droid doesn't like us if it doesn't have additional info about the user (like location)?  BTW, being able to simulate searches on mobile devices is really cool!  Thanks for putting that together.

  • Thanks Maximise and Sven, both very informative answers. I have changed the question to a discussion as it seems there may be no definitive answer  to the above, so look forward to hopefully seeing further input from the Moz community.

  • If the site content is exactly the same Google will see them as duplicate content. If the site content is different Google will see them as separate sites, however you will now have two sites competing for ranking with one another. Google usually sees the m.domain as for mobile but not always. I tend to use a user agent redirect which detects if users are on mobile based browsers and redirects them to the m.domain. So you can keep your normal listing in Google, yet when users click on it on a mobile device they will be redirected to the mobile page.

  • Note to self, and to others who see this thread later, the 301 for this situation is: RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} x=([0-9]+)&y=([0-9]+) RewriteRule ^product.php$ http://www.example.com/product.php?y=%2 [r=301,nc]

  • I really liked what Daniel said about using Crazy Egg to analyze user behavior, but you can also do something similar using Google Analytics. Unfortunately, my suspicion is that very few of your users are clicking on those links. Google knows that footer links are rarely clicked, and scores of SEOs have abused this area in the past, and that's why Google tends to devalue any links placed there. So even though in this case, the links there may provide some user benefit, Google most likely doesn't pass much link value through them, and may even devalue the anchor text text used, as these are site-wide footer links. On the other hand, even those those links aren't helping you from an SEO perspective, they probably aren't hurting you very much either. You've chosen broad, partial-match anchor text, and the number of links seem within reason. Food for thought: If the links are important to visitors, is the footer the best place for them? Perhaps if you found a more prominent location higher up in the navigation, you might see improved click-through rates, and you might even gain an SEO benefit from it. Just something to think about.

  • Miriam, This is making more sense. But how do we show 2 NAPs on one website. Do we have a page on our site for the 2nd location and list a separate NAP there than on our general contact us? Also, if there is only one office (like my friends who own a center that trains in california and utah both and don't have an office in california anymore), then how does the NAPs work there? I assume all of this effects the non-local SERP listings as well as the Google Places listings, and that's why we haven't been able to move up in two locations in the non-Places results. Thanks again!

  • Hi there, nothing wrong with contacting the webmaster of the linking site and politely ask, if he/she can update the link. Good way to get in touch with people. And as they say on here, the new SEO is all about relation building. If you don't get an answer after some time, redirect the URL. Hope that helps. Cheers from Germany Sven
