(Australia) Changing .net.au to .com.au - web dev is refusing to do a 301 redirect and wants to run two sites?
I am sure you won't get into any issues by keeping them both separate - but it doesn’t make any sense in doing that. You should definitely 301 redirect the old one .. page by page to the new site. It doesn’t make sense to keep them both and you will lose since Google might start to rank one page from the com.au and for another query one from net.au. They should for sure consolidate everything into one single side. Keeping them separately there migt also be some branding issues - as users might get confused. "oh, last time I was on the other Screento - let's look for those guys again" So, you won't get into issues from Google with Duplicate content or anything else but you might shoot yourself in the foot by not 301 redirecting the old pages to the new ones since you will compete with each other and it just doesn’t make sense to keep them both. So to make the long story short: Consolidate with 301 and you will be in good shape. Don't do it and you will be safe but you will lose on branding and rankings. Hope it helps.

How to avoid keyword stuffing in dynamic pages?
I agree with Trung. Keep in mind that any tool, including Moz's, take a one-size-fits-all approach. The tool is meant to warn you when your page doesn't follow best practices - but if there's a perfectly legitimate reason for the words to be there, don't sweat it. If the keywords make sense, by all means leave them in there. You don't always have to follow best practices. On the other hand, if you fear the page isn't ranking well because of over-optimization, there are other places you can controll use of keywords, such as the title tag, the alt attribute in photos, headers, the URL and incoming anchor text. Often, for over-optimized pages, toning down the keywords in these areas can make a difference. The one thing I would caution against is placing any text you want to hide in an iFrame, as Google is getting good at associating those with the page content. Hope that helps! Best of luck with your SEO.

Does the order matter for a rel="alternate" tag
I agree, the order is a non issue here! My standard MO is to immediately argue and disagree with developers but this time... your guy is right. ; )

Change url structure and keeping the social media likes/shares
Shaqd I have done this, although I am not familiar with the canonical method you mentioned. Social share counts are tied directly to a URL so if the structure of a URL changes at all the old count will be attributed with the shares. You can create a custom social share button that pulls the data from the old pre url structure change. Mike King has an awesome post about how to do that here (which is what I believe you are referring to with the og: url propterty?): http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2172926/How-to-Maintain-Social-Shares-After-a-Site-Migration You can read a thread where he and I discussed it here: http://moz.com/community/q/preserving-social-shares-through-url-changes His method works.

Search box within search results question
Depending on how long ago it was that you added the search box feature, it could very well be that Google's recently swept one site but not the other. As that's something more or less out of your control, I suggest looking through the code for the in-SERP search box and making sure that it's 100% accurate. Other than these things, I can't think of any reason why the search box wouldn't be on one but the other. Hope that helps!

Do I have a Panda filter on a specific segment?
It is still possible it isn't a penalty from one of the major algorithms and you may be able to solve this by creating a strong internal linking strategy. It helps to formulate one if you use something like MindNode to create an overview of the site and then you can drill in on the pages in questions. It is possible that a noindex would cure this, but it all depends because even though you add a noindex tag to a page, Google can still read the page and apply the penalty. All it means is that the page won't be indexed. However, if you are relaunching everything very soon, you might be as well to sit tight and not do anything too rash for a short-term solution. -Andy

Changing business name from keyword to brand name, what are the effects on SEO?
That's a pickle! Yeah, whatever you choose I might suggest making the changes gradually. Introduce elements one at a time instead of all at once. In this way, you might be able to preserve some of your established link equity and relevancy signals.

Max Amout Of HTML Pages In A Folder
Thanks for all the input. Google does seem to crawl everything these days, so I'm also in conclusion if the files fit, they'll get crawled. Sitemaps, internal links and optimized images are all a must.

For URLs that require login, should our redirect be 301 or 302?
Uhmn. Yes and no. 302 suggests it will be back. but actually it will be never back. So a 302 would keep the link juice where it is which is fine. because you do not want to have all that juice to the invaluable login page right. but noindex following is the way to go.

Could this be seen as duplicate content in Google's eyes?
Hi Cyrus, Thanks for taking the time to answer. It seems that there is no firm answer on this one - interesting to see you felt there wasn't necessarily an issue of duplicated content but that grouping these pages into themes with a hub page would be of benefit (assuming I've understood your suggestions). The issue is that in some ways the pages and content is similar, so the trips are focused on the beaches and wildlife of Kenya - a lot of the difference is in the accommodation and level of luxury, which is dealt with in the on page copy. I think we will have to revisit how we handle page titles. We only fairly recently changed those pages to ensure that all content in the individual tabs is visible to search engines (previously they were only able to crawl the content in the overview tabs, the content of other tabs was effectively hidden). I have checked this in Google Webmaster Tools and it all displays fine / all the tabbed content is found within the html. Many thanks Kate

Link Type Analysis
As far as my information goes, there is no tool that can tell you which links are coming from within the content, navigation, side bar or footers. ...But I would love to see if anyone new of a tool that does closer to what you are looking for!

Is Tumblr being used as a social algorithm for Bing and Google?
Shawn, Good question, although to me it seems like there are actually two questions in there. Social signals and backlinks are not quite the same things. Social signals arise when a link to your content is tweeted, pinned or shared on Facebook. These links are all (or nearly all) rel=nofollow, so they don't pass any authority to your site. Some folks think that social signals will affect your rankings, but earlier this year Matt Cutts made it quite clear that they don't. The value of social is then as a new source of traffic - and it can be especially valuable in terms of lead generation and list-building. Now, a post that does well on social media might attract some traditional backlinks, but it isn't the social sharing itself that will improve rankings. If you can find the right vibe on Tumblr (and you do, or you will be ignored), the community there is very active. Just like every other social site, the links are nofollow. You can hack this by hard coding a link to your site into your Tumblr's template. I'm not sure how well it works. I did this as an experiment, and the links don't show up in Moz or Webmaster Tools. So... after all that.... If the you want to reach the people using Tumblr, go ahead and Tumbl away. Don't do it for "SEO" though. Hope that helps. Michael
