Backlinks vs External Links vs Referral Links vs Outbound links
Thanks Ian - that's a great help

I got 1 backlink with 19k backlinks is that bad ? I am afraid
Since this is a footer link it will likely not provide much value. I would not worry about it though as a lot of web design and development companies have tons of footer links from websites they built and they rank just fine.

Is it worth getting a backlink to a page that will be 301'd?
Thanks Gaston! I am hoping the website can go live before the links are created, but doubtful. Either way, I think they're worth it, as the referring domains would be very high DA (Huffington Post, etc.) and I'm sure the pages will also have high PA.

I have managed to land a few expert pieces on external sites for my company and would like to document that on our blog in the form of mini-blurbs which lead through to the article... but if I link back to it, is that bad practice?
Lots of companies do this. On their media page they link to third party coverage of their work. Your situation is kinda the reverse. You are showing where your authorship has landed. I don't see anything wrong with it - unless it is done at scale... but I am not Google.

Post index of quality back links; How long should you leave it to see if it's had any impact?
Hi Cesare. Appreciate the response. 8 to 12 weeks for new content ranking is my experience also. However, when we got a link from a different charity (about 18 months ago) our rankings jumped up in the SERPs 2 to 3 weeks after that link being indexed. So I imagine the answer is not the same for on page/ off page signals. I'll happily stand correct though. Anyone else care to comment?

Linking to the same sites from more than one of my sites, is this bad?
The above advice is good, but also check the hosting situation for each of your sites. Anything but Class A hosting will leave a footprint which can be traced back to each of your sites - this is why PBN's are really getting crunched now. It probably won't hurt you if you do it a couple times for each of your websites from a single source. After all, that is pretty common. However, if you are planning on repeating this strategy from multiple link sources for all 3 of your sites, this is a very noticeable PBN linking strategy and has been under fire for the last couple of years. The only way to avoid this is to ensure your sites are hosted on separate servers (Class A hosting). This will eliminate most issues related to "paid" links, PBN's and the like. It isn't a guaranteed fix, but it's your best bet if you haven't taken other precautions and plan on using this kind of strategy on a large scale. After that it's just a matter of making sure your websites are relevant to the pages linking to you, and your content is worth reading. Follow the above suggestions (no over-optimization, etc.) and you should be fine.

Has anyone used Fat Joe as an outsource solution for blog links?
Their content is mediocre at best. Lot's of grammar and spelling errors from a supposedly us/uk staff.

Link buildig to take affect
Hi there, Thanks for the question. It's almost an impossible one to answer exactly because no one truly knows what goes on behind the scenes at Google. But we can assume that for an average site, Google probably discovers new links pretty quickly and you can check this by seeing if the page where the link is located is indexed and cached. In terms of then that link "counting" - it's hard to say but from experience of working on various link building campaigns, we typically see improvements between 1-2 months after the first links went live. BUT there are some caveats to point out: I've worked on campaigns where great links haven't had any effect at all because of some other underlying issue such as a penalty or technical issue. One-off link campaigns with no consistency don't always have an effect in the long term. The best campaigns I've worked on have generated links over the course of many months I hope that helps a bit - sorry that I can't give an exact answer but can only speak from experience. Cheers. Paddy

Unnatural link Manual Penalty by Google
Thanks Patrick. It is helpful. We've approached appx. 600 website owners and asked them to remove our link. Most of them do not respond , so, we disavow these links and sent reconsideration request. Again, Google refuses to remove penalty from our website. Anyone, can help. Thanks in Advance.

Am I better off with ten links from one site or one link from ten sites?
I agree with you Donald, all depends of what kind of link are we talking about 10 links from wikipedia ( same site )are better than 10 links from blogs that nobody knows. In the other hands 10 reputable sites linking to your site such as wall street journal, national geographic or site like that are better than 10 links of wikipedia

Any advantage spreading linked-back articles vs concentrating them?
More is obviously always better, but you should definitely milk the opportunity to your best powers. Having a reputable site mention you multiple times is a really great thing.

External links cannot be found
Hi Marielle, That Moz or other external tools don't show external links to your website doesn't mean a lot actually. They don't have a 100% coverage of the entire web for sure and things don't happen immediately. It takes time...They don't/can't crawl the web the same way e.g. Google does, so their view will always be incomplete. They actually say that they focus on quality rather than quantity.... It depends on the the country (TLD: .nl?, .com?, ...), importance/popularity of the linking website/your site, etc. Look it up on The Google Search Console - Search Traffic - Links to your Site. I guess you will be able to see the linking sites earlier or later there but again this could take time. Google hast to crawl the linking website - connect it to your site and show it on Google Search Console. This can easily take weeks to happen. Cheers, Cesare

Is it better to have backlinks from domains with medium DA, UR, using same language and good relevancy, or backlinks from domains with high DA, UR but using another language and with less relevancy?
Hey there, The same-language relevant-content backlinks are by far more valuable. You can grab a couple high DA links with less relevancy, even diff languages, as long as it's not in an extremely spammy way or overdone. Ex - the article is about mountain passes in Russian and suddenly you link to your site saying "Buy cheap laptops". Usually try to only link to your domain with no specific anchor text other than the domain name ex: MOZ.com .This way it can provide some value, but not look spammy. The key is not to do stuff that Google can track as a spam pattern and penalise you. Everything else can be helfpul. Have a look at this rather older but still very much true / valid Whiteboard Friday vid: https://moz.com/blog/high-value-tactics-futureproof-link-building-whiteboard-friday Hope this helps

Are Sidebar Backlinks worth for SEO?
Hi Kelvin, Thank you for posting this question! I have recently look up into Moz Resources and these are some insights. 1. Focus on "Natural" editorial links, those that are editorially given by other website owners. This would be much more efficient than having to contact someone and ask them to link to you. (Provide them a good reason for them to do so. Making them aware of that reason.) - Cons, it takes time but nevertheless is HIGHLY VALUED. 2. Manual 'outreach' link building - most common which involves manually contacting website owners and bloggers to get linked. An important note from Moz Res: Google has been devaluing and even penalizing 'self-created, non-editorial links' which often fall in line with black-hat practices that aim to fool the search engines into thinking a piece of content is relevant and important when it isn't. Non-editorially given link, inherently carry less weight than other types of links. Focus on tactics that give you editorial links that add value to your website and business. **What you should do in my opinion: Look out for blogs with great evergreen content (**with good rankings, good links, seeming decent traffic, etc) and link to a relevant page on your site. Look out for more active sites(usually have better overall quality, search performance, and a more active audience) - with a more active audience, potentially increase your chance to attract more decent traffic to your page. Whether or not you succeed, it is crucial that you have a structure towards link building, which is very much dependent on a combination of your available assets and resources. Hope the above insights have answered to your question applying to all kind of links. Different kind of links brings different impact to your business (whether or not this bring awareness to the potential audience). You can visit my blog at https://www.corsivalab.com/blog and have reference to how I am actually backlinking the necessary stuff. Marketing is all about learning and sharing, the blog too has tips and ways you can better strategize and do links for marketing purposes. Let's learn more as a community! Cheers!

Do any presentation sites, Slideshare, Google Slides, HaikuDeck offer great SEO links?
That's a great idea Dan. I could give them a slide presentation and let them post it on their blog.

What Should be the URL of third party blog for my website
Hi, Im afraid this could be just a waste of time for you. Why would you invest time and effort to build a few more blogs (and fed them with content) when you can approach this via a proper back linking strategy? Find out where you can submit articles, get in touch with your industry websites with good domain authority and see what you can do to get backlinked. If you keep referral traffic/PR in mind, this can bring a lot more value (high quality traffic) to you than just a number of backlinks from artificially created blogs for the backlink purposes. I hope this helps Thanks Katarina

Can a company group have reciprocal links on their company websites without being penalised by Google?
It's not the best idea, as mentioned above. What tends to work is having them as footer links for people who might be interested in the group of companies. The logical answer is to nofollow these, and they may still pass some benefits without the risk of penalty. However, when you look at large publishing groups for example (I know these well as I've worked for a few), they'll quite often list all their main publication websites in the footer, and also have them all followed. Now it may be that Google has missed them for a penalty, or it may be as massive publishers and possibly advertisers they're getting more leeway. But it's worth saying that they certainly don't seem to have suffered - there was a case study by Viperchill ages ago covering Hearst http://www.viperchill.com/google-control/

Trackbacks and Pingbacks 2017
Hey Judd, I would't bother with this in 2017. Most of the people comment on the bigger sites anyway so you can just turn it off. Cheers, Martin

Does an external link to an image file on my site help my SEO?
They are hot linking, but I was more asking about the accompanying link to the image on my site. If it's not clear, it looks like this: [image: myimage.jpg]
