How long before backlinks take effect?
Thanks for quick reply, I understand the first part, I was really looking for answer to the second part 'After Index', which sounds like it's a bit of a grey area. See you say a few days and I would be inclined to agree but I have in the past created 5 links in a few days, stopped all activity and 8 days later then seen the movement. I like to put myself in Google shoes and think what would I do and in this case, most likely want the link crawled more then once to make sure it was a genuine link. So with this in mind maybe it's down to how frequently the link is found, BBC link could be found 3-4 times a day, where as a blog link could be found once in a week. Just a thought.

Anyone Still Use Article Directories?
yes -its called guest posting now (we no longer see the value of article directories)

Warrior Forum, Is it good for seo?
Agreed with everyone above. I started there as well and got fed up with the "overnight results, push-button easy!". There are some smart people with good stuff on there, but too much to wade through to find it. Your time is much better spent on SEOmoz, in my opinion

Are moderated external links in a "showcase" worth having?
Just to clarify, our site provides e-commerce software, we're not an e-commerce site ourselves. Also, the links don't have keywords in them so that's not so much a concern. Still, it sounds like you're saying there's little value in linking out in this situation. Thanks for the input.

Diversified Link Profile?
Generally when I link build I try to make it as natural a link profile as possible. I have never found that images have been a great source of links for most websites except real estate. I try to vary my anchor text so its not all 'widget 1', you need to have some variety including just regular www.widget.com links and stuff like 'this site'. About the anchor text being what you want to rank for, the answer is yes. However I usually try to only rank for one main word a page and whatever else happens is a bonus. I find it looks a little spammy if I try to do more. Check this out. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/anchor-text-distribution-avoiding-over-optimization

How many days/hours a month should I dedicate to link building ?
SEOBUNNY, I guess the best anwser to that questions is an 'it depends'. I agree with the other posters that guest posting relevant content is probably among the best strategys as long as they are not just glorified directories. As they also said, with penguin, if you are submitting to some directories, they can hurt you. If you're a local business I would try getting some links from local organizations such as chambers of commerce, newspaper websites, local business organizations, etc. Those should be safe links. A lot really depends on your type of business as-well. Some will have more link building opportunities than others. Also, try to write the best content possible and hopefully some of it gets picked up by legit sites. It's really a value for value thing, when you're putting value out there, you'll get some value in terms of rankings. Good Luck! If you need any help you can PM me.

Anchor text diversity - post penguin.
I think for a start you need to not worry about percentages or nit-picking over calculations. Here are some basic principles Firstly make sure your website itself is great and that your content reads well for human beings, then perform your on-site optimisation to make sure the site is primed for your choice of keywords. In my view, if you've selected your keywords, your on-page optimisation has to be the next step - because any visitors you are bringing into your site from search must be engaged and interested. Get some colleagues/friends to read it through. Then begin your link-building. Make sure you have a range of type of link - editorial posts, reviews or relevant articles you've written, some directories maybe, get engaged into some relevant communities to what you do - have you exhibited at a wedding fair? Then see if the venue organisers list their exhibiters and get listed. You will need to have a good proportion of links with your target anchor text - but they must be in-context, so worry about that aspect on the sites you have the most control over - i.e. doing an article on a wedding blog about selecting the right music for your wedding. If link building is done 'naturally' then the range of anchor texts will come as different sites will link to you in different ways. Some may allow keyword-rich anchors Some will be business name Some will be 'Website' Some will be your website URL etc etc Google in particular likes brand value - so ensure you are building awareness of your brand through all your marketing activities, through online and offline means. So build a strategy for your link building but make sure the keyword range is broad and steer clear of 'best wedding singer' unless you've got sufficient awards or something that merits the title. Oh and one final thing might be to grow your own website with relevant information or helpful articles, or even different styles of singing you do. Some couples may want a romantic wedding singer or a 'fun, jazzy' one. You could easily broaden your keyword appeal by not limiting all your keywords to 'wedding singer'-oriented ones. Hope this helps.

Does the ratio of external nofollow links to external "do follow" links matter in terms of SERPs ranking?

How long does it take to get the juice from a new inbound link?
Ciao Guido, The first one has a lot of par within the url. I've checked the source of the page and the links is not there - within the code so that is not good. On a quick look it looks like it's not in the index anyway. I don't think it will help on a link building side. It needs a more detailed review but on a first glance i don't think it will help you. The links from http://www.paginegialle.it/ is a no follow link - it won't help with rankings but it could be a good resource from another perspective: referral, branding etc. From an SEO perspective I would't monitor it as it's a waste of time but the links it self is not a waste of time and even if the link is a no follow one it will still help with the ratio of no follow vs followed links so it's ok - just don't spend time on it to monitor and all. we must overcaming them and go first.... the query is poltrona frau brescia ** First of all your competitor looks easy to out rank - you just need more links. It dosen't look like they are doing much on the SEO side. On the other hand it dosen't look like http://poltronafraubrescia.zenucchi.it has a big authority either so it's an open battle. With what page do you want to rank for "poltrona frau brescia" ? Home page or another page ? The home page is light as far as content so my suggestion would be to builkd a new strong landing page optimized for this keyword - also link this new landing page from the home page too - or from all pages. (especialy since you are pointinglinks to the home page too). If possibile, some new links on the new landing page will help a lot. On a short run, just get some social going on the new landing page - that will give you a temporary boos in rankings until you get the links online. The new landing page, in my opinion, from an SEO point of view should have enough content to be a good resource on the subject ( friendly url with keyword within, h1 and title tag with keyword within but no duplicate of h1 and the title tag as far as text) In bocca al lupo!

Smashing Magazine SEO article today: Question about a few things in it...
Hello, You inquired in another post (http://www.seomoz.org/q/ideas-needed-for-onsite-seo#post-99529) about this Q&A and why my picture appears next to my SEOmoz results in SERPs. For SEOmoz, I added a link to my G+ profile page on my author page, and I also added a link from my G+ page to my SEOmoz author page. Now my SEOmoz results show with my picture next to them. How does this benefit your websites rankings? The only thing I can see it benefiting is the blog the guest post is on?? In short, it does not offer a direct benefit. It is not designed to either. Indirectly, it can offer a benefit. Let's forget search engines exist for a moment and think about how guest blogging works. You have a niche site on gardening. You would like more readers. You recognize Better Homes & Garden is a popular magazine in your niche. You publish an article in the magazine. In the footer, you mention your website. If your article is well written and helpful, some readers will then want to learn more about you, the author. They may visit your site. Additionally, they may become a bit more familiar with your name and image, so the next time they see it they have an opportunity to recognize you. This same logic applies to guest blogging as well. If you were to post the same article on the Better Homes and Garden website, all the same logic applies. The only difference is you would have a link to your website. That link offers two additional benefits. First, it is easier for users to click a link after reading an article on a pc then remember the URL after reading the magazine and visiting your website later. Secondly, Google and other search engines recognize the link has value therefore the link may help your rankings. Now let's loop back to your authorship. Every time you publish an article related to your niche it improves your recognition and therefore your status as an author (assuming the articles are of a quality nature). There may be a slight benefit in this regard recognized by Google. Also, since your image appears in SERP next to your guest blog article, users may later see your image next to another article on your site and then be more likely to click on that result due to the recognition factor.
