  • In a way you would benefit from being on such sites because of possible click through's to your website. However, being on those sites may or may not give you a better ranking. It depends how your website is displayed and linked to. As if it is followed or no followed.

  • It's very unlikely that Google would hit you with a manual penalty for press releases, especially if the content isn't spammy. Whether or not they give much or any value to links coming from PR sites is another question.  Press releases are a normal part of an established business and aren't really considered link manipulation in most cases. My company puts out several press releases on PRWeb every week and while we haven't seen any great SEO advantage, we haven't seen any sort of penalty either. We do get some referral traffic and every so often a larger site will pick up one of the releases for their own content.  On top of that we often get scrapers snagging and spinning our content but they generally don't keep the links pointed at us. Best, Jason

  • Hey Joshua - I'm personally fine with those sites as long as they are mixed in with more traditional, industry related guest blog posts. I've used a guest blog posting company called guestblogposter.com and have been pretty happy with the results.  They get a nice range of guest blog posts and the price is pretty reasonable. Bryan

  • Hi Neil, Glad my response gave you some encouragement! Whenever something changes in SEO there is always a massive over exaggeration that something is dead or no longer works but the truth normally is we have to tweak the way we work rather than revolutionise.

  • I know about DIGG and its no follow but i dont have a clear idea about what others are do follow book marking website... the list of do follow social bookmarking website can easily be available online. The point is if you are using social bookmarking website, its better not to consider it too important and spend too much time on it. There are some good bookmarking website like Delicious, Reddit and more...

  • Hi Scott, I am in the same boat. After a lot of research I have come to the conclusion that if you are just looking for back links it may not be the best option. If you have something that is newsworthy and want back links as bonus then use PRWEB. You can pull some good coupons from here: http://www.retailmenot.com/view/prweb.com Let us know how it goes...

  • Hey Irving, Thanks for your great response. A lot of what  you've talked about was along the lines of where I was heading, so I appreciate the time you took to write back to the question. The JS idea is a really good one. Thanks again.

  • OSE can be a couple months behind at times. I think this last one was through May? I also think I read that it has a smaller index than previous ones so your links may not appear. But I would use a variety of tools. OSE is great but it often misses a bunch of notable links. WBT also has a great tool for checking site links

  • As Malcolm said, it's most likely the recent Mozscape update that came out Friday evening. That index was about half the size of the previous index, so a lot of your links could not be showing.

  • I would go ahead and remove them as you come across them. The disavow tool seems like it might have a lot of implications and Google is probably thinking about the best way to go about this before implementing. In my opinion it will cause a spike in spamming when people know they can simply disavow links if they get caught.

  • The number one goal is you want to come off as natural in your link building efforts after Panda, so I would suggest a mix between the two.  This will come off as "natural link building" which google likes to see.

  • Hi Samuel, Link building to the localized pages won't help your pursuit of ranking the main page for the term 'wedding bands', however it will help the individual pages rank for the localized terms (Manchester Wedding Bands etc), which in turn will lead to more targeted traffic coming into the site (which I assume is the ultimate goal?) In terms of the localized link building; try and 'think local' when you come to picking your targets. Of course, you want the links to be coming from authoritative domains, however relevancy also plays a big part, so getting a link from a Manchester lifestyle blog to your Manchester wedding bands page will be a great signal. If you are looking to rank the local pages, the first thing I would suggest is putting in a suitable navigational structure to get to them. From first glance at your site, it seems you can only get to these pages using a site search, which isn't great for users or the search engines. Best of luck with the site, let me know if you want any advice. Thanks, David

  • So 25 out of 1, 000 000 directories are potentially, possibly, maybe a little bit helpful - as long as you don't get links from any that aren't the 25 useful ones, which could cause you a lot of trouble Dan, that meets my definition of rarely helpful S

  • Hi Sander, Sitewide links, although not hugely popular with Google, do appear naturally in the link profile of quite a large number of sites, and you're not going to suffer any spam issues if these types of links only appear in moderation. If one referring domain is sending links from hundreds of pages, then you're not going to have any problems. It would only become an issue if an unnatural proportion of your overall link profile was being made up of these site-wide links, as that's not natural. It also depends on the type of site you're running, it's quite natural for Bloggers to have a higher % of site-wide links as they tend to be linked to via blogrolls, however this same % would look unusual for an ecommerce site. In terms of benefits; sadly you won't receive the same link benefit of receiving 100's of unique links, in fact you'll receive no-where near this benefit. Essentially, as the anchor text, placement and style of the link is the same across the site, I would treat them as a single link. Hope that all makes sense. David

  • You could also look to Blekko or now Bing for some of that link data, in addition to SEOmoz, and run it through a status checker like Eppie described.
