  • There are a couple tactics you could try: See if http://archive.org/web/web.php has a cache of the page. Use OSE, Majestic, etc to find backlinks to the page. Maybe one of the backlinks will include a description of what was on the page.

  • I wouldn't just go ahead an do it without looking into it further, maybe waiting for more comments on here to weigh it up. It sounds counter-intuitive to me.

  • Yep - crawls are at intervals. If you go to opensiteexplorer you'll see "Last Index Update: Oct. 8th 2012" (or whichever other date it is. We all have to be patient. I'm also waiting for one of my sites to show the latest changes. For a current client who wants changes by peak season in December - January, I'm already rolling out changes now. Good luck

  • Go back to your keyword research. Try looking for the terms that have the highest volume (Google keyword tool) but are least competitive (look at number of results in the Google SERPs). Create a piece of content for that term and you have much more chance of ranking highly quicker, especially if you submit it to social bookmarking services like Digg, Stumbleupon and Reddit, which can also be good sources of traffic. I'd disagree with Larry - press releases do still have some value, particularly building links into your homepage, even if the just the press release aggregator places the link on their site they are decent white-hat links. There are companies that can distribute your press release to the various aggregators relatively cheaply if you don't have the time.

  • Thanks Adam, That's cleared it up a bit. So if I were to accept a guest post on my site, which for example has a DA of 17, from someone who is linking their article back to their site (DA of 70) I don't receive any link value? That's a shame, I would have liked to benefit a bit more haha. Thanks again, Josh

  • You want to know what links look natural to Google? The answer >>> natural links! Links that you have earned, not built. Well said!

  • I'm a newbie here, but i did notice that at least one of your internal links using the keyword "childrens bedroom" is giving a 404, I suspect that could be hurting you, especially if there are more of those (check http://www.childrensfunkyfurniture.com/shelves-bookcases) Also, have you made any changes lately? it looks like your home page has little content outside of product links, did you have more before? Just my 2 cents Ken

  • Personally, I would go with example.com/blog and host it on your own site. Why? Because it increases your branding, provides a better sense of security (what will you do if Google folds Blogger?), and gives you more control.

  • I would agree with Adam. Create two separate sections for both states and then add some really good content in those sections, with good on page optimisation, and then begin link building for those pages.

  • We worked on a website that sells silicone wristbands. Not an exciting product anymore by any means. What we did to help create a buzz was partner with various awareness causes during a given month and posted polls and funds raised results on landing pages. Then we had the awareness cause we worked with link to those landing pages where visitors can see the amount of money raised, read more info about the cause and even place an order to support the cause. If client has a mailing list of any significant size, you can send out email blasts offering discounts, free upgrades or other incentives that are further explained on landing pages and build traffic and possibly links to that page as well. Im also looking forward to hearing some strategies others may have to offer.

  • I'm a bit leery of this. Where's the concrete proof that he ever worked for Google? I realize nothing he said was overly shocking, but still . . .

  • You can leave the Wordpress read more links as-is - they should be fine. Google only counts the first link on the page to any given URL, so Google should be counting the anchor text of the first link, which is the link that uses the post title as the anchor text. Nofollowing links will not help point more link juice to the other links.

  • I will try the approaches you guys mentioned. But I've got another question as I want to measure how successful my effort: when deciding the value of the links from the article Does google take into account how many times the article is read? Because some people do not bother taking further actions (like/share/clicks) even they like it. I can't track this article views through analytics obviousely. On the other hand let say the article create valuable info to the readers (many people read it) but no likes/shares/bookmarks  would this still become a successful article/link marketing?
