Category: Link Building

Chat through link building best practices and outreach techniques.

  • The basic idea behind hub linking is that there are certain websites that are "hubs" for information - that is, they are one place that you can go to get resources on a topic.  A lot of times these domains link out a lot, because they want to showcase other websites that have good information resources on the topic.  They often do have good page authority, if they are good resources on the topic, because people link back to them. One thing to look out for when engaging someone to do Hub linking is, you want to make sure the sites you're getting links from are actually relevant resources that real people are using.  A lot of "hub" pages are created solely for SEO purposes and tend to have thin content and too many links, which can be a sign to Google that the link is a shady one.  So it's important to be judicious in selecting a hub page to target for links, and I would advise against trying to create one yourself unless you have a long-term strategy for how to continue adding content and making it useful.

  • Have you got your old domain setup in Google Webmaster Tools, if so have you had a look at links there and do they still show? I have to be honest when I have created 301 redirects I have never gone back checking what links still point to the old domain as I plan on keeping the domain and redirect in place permanently anyway. You might want to try running your redirected old URL through http://www.majesticseo.com to see what sort of insight this gives you in relation to backlinks... I have just done that with majesticseo and I can all the links pointing to the redirected URL so this should solve your problem

  • Thanks guys. I started wondering and playing games in my head, because 8 months ago I was in a difficult accident juggernaut to my car and haven´t been able to run my sites since then. Now when I am better I can see that all my sites has gone down in every keyword from top 3 to not even being in the top 50. I thought that my competitors had done something I´ve missed, like bought links. Life is not that easy...right?

  • Google knows it's there, there is no need to re-submit for indexing. https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Acomparetravel.ie+* I suggest you start with the basics. Work on keyword optimizing the content of your website, and then building links where you can. All the best.

  • Spoke with our web designer. Whoops, apparently it might have been a plugin that forced the site to lose the www. We have gone back to the www. Thanks for your responses.

  • I agree, some clarity on what you mean by "outsourced link building" would be a good idea because if you mean hiring the cheapest labour you can find and giving them the remit to build links for you then yes you are likely to get burned. In my opinion 'outsourcing' has negative connotations and working with an experienced external link acquisition company isn't necessarily a bad idea. Working with an expert whether that be an agency or a freelancer can offer incredible benefits provided you are involved at the strategy and quality control level. 2nd or 3rd opinions on strategies and output are often worthwhile seeking if you are unsure of the 'right' direction.
