How to make google not index quotes from other sites?
We're using Vbulletin and we do really want the rest of page to get indexed. I'll just link back to them then. Thanks to both of you!

Sitemap generator and /index.htm
Remove it. 301 will take care of it, but it should nmot be there. also it is worth mentioning, that sitemaps that are incorrect will get ignored by SE's, I knw that this is true with Bing buy talking with duane forrester, it the updates dates dont add up, the links give 401''s and the lot, they will start to distrust it

Directory Structure
Is a course going to be tagged as being about two or more kind of categories or just one? For instance, an SEO course could be put both as "Internet" and "Marketing". if you reflect your is the same problem that some eCommerce have with products' classification, so the solution I suggest you is to do what in eCommerce is common to do in these case or to avoid these cases: www.domain/course-title/ That way you avoid any possible duplication due to assigning a course to more than category and avoid potential links to both course's pages and - now that it is important - that the eventual social sharing and signals get split in two identical pages.

Authority of a page
Thanks, slide 17 certainly seems to back this up. I wonder how much extra weight a link from a different C-Block provides vs. from the same IP / C-Block and whether the extra effort / cost makes it worthwhile? (again wrt a single link between two of your own sites)

Keyword placement on home page or throughout the website
Thanks a lot, I think I got it.

Nofollow all outgoing links?
all links. 1st is best and descreses as you go along The position of the link also counts. SEOMoz did some tests on this, (i think it was SEOMoz) footer does not give much juice, sides a bit better, head and body were the best.

Internal link to the home page
Thanks! This was causing a major problem. All my pages except my home page had a good page rank. Now I know why. Best, Christopher

Domain.com and www.domain.com
Thanks for the quick responses. I will add the redirect of index.php to domain.com/, but I don't know where the 301 of domain.com/ to index.php is coming from. It's not in .htaccess. Is that just a generic rule somewhere in the Apache server so that doman.com/ will default to an actual page? Best, Christopher EDIT: I think I found the problem. The site was originally created using .html pages and later converted to .php pages. There was a 301 for index.html to index.php. I changed to to Redirect 301 /index.html http://www.domain.com/ and also added Redirect 301 /index.php http://www.domain.com/

4XX comments/feed/
You should investigate all errors, but it sounds like you have done such and determined the root cause in this case. Since you are aware it is your RSS feed, I would ignore the error.

Too many links on page has a state directory how do i lessen this?
Thanks much. Im not certain why but will have to delve a little deeper since the dmoz tool states 140 something links on page. It used to say that with my other site but my seo guy at that time said he fixed that and seemed true enough. Thanks for response

Site Speed Expert Referral Needed
Hi Bryan, Did you ever find someone for this, or are you still looking? I know plenty of sources for DIY information but don't know who to refer you to offhand. If you're still looking, you might try asking in a fresh thread. I believe when you asked this is when we had the Q&A outage and a bunch of new questions didn't appear right away and people didn't see them.

Dropped rankings due to too many links, help needed
First of all, I like your new design, and typically, large sub-navs are excellent for usability and spidering. As Michael Martinez from seo-theory.com once eloquently put it: "[PageRank] was made to be wasted. Real SEOs understand that." If you think of your homepage as a balloon and PageRank helium, then trying to capture as much PR as possible to increase rank seems logical. Unfortunately, that's not a correct analogy. If you've just re-designed your site, it's likely that there are new problems created you're unaware of. Or, also likely is that - depending on how new your site is - Google's system hasn't finished fully evaluating it. It's normal for a redesigned website to see some rank fluctuations over the course of several days (or even a week or two) while it is in various stages of being indexed in ranked. Do not use ""style='display: none'" to hide links. This is cloaking in its most basic and easily detectable form, and whether you mean well or not, Google can't detect your intentions - so don't expect them to. TL;DR I would recommend you re-evaluate the rest of your site first, your competitors, and link situation before worrying about too many links on your main nav bar as it's usually not the issue.

Submitting multiple sitemaps
I agree with it. If you want to go with multiple XML site maps so you have to wait after submission. I have very good experience with multiple XML site maps. I am working on eCommerce website and submitted 24 XML site maps to Google webmaster tools. Just look in to multiple XML site maps for Lamps Lighting and More! You can see that Google webmaster tools shows very few index URLs. I have similar experience for my another eCommerce website where I have submitted 7K+ URLs and 300+ indexed by Google with in 15 days.

How to find competition for a particular keyword
For some of the phrases I'm currently working on all of the top ten SERPs have the phrase in the URL. Not saying its a factor but I wouldn't like to leave it out of the equation just yet.

Change Homepage internal Link from Image to Targeted Anchor Text -- Spam??
Correct. And then your text navigation will be user friendly things like 'products' or 'home' rather than a 2 or 3 phrase keyword.
