Navigation causing too many links
To combat this Sam have you thought about having your top level of navigation broad match such as counties in UK and then when the user selects the county from the menu they are presented with a page that lisst the cities and towns, thus cutting down the number of links in the navigation on your homepage, then you can still create pages for your desired locations. I have done something similar in another niche.. I have found users don't mind having to take one extra step to narrow down their search - I think it would only be a real issue if you start requiring 3+ clicks to get to their desired information/page.

Which redirect to use when redirecting to https page from http page
302 redirects really should only be used if it's a temporary redirection. That's what it's for. If that form is NOT going to be changed to the non http version in the near future, there's no legitimate reason to leave the 302. With a 302 you lose any long-term value opportunity with the page the 302 points to. Now the other issue is - do you want that form indexed? If not, it should be blocked from indexing. Also, once someone goes into https status on that form, what happens when they go somewhere else on the site? Does it redlrect back to non https status? And if so, have you ensured that's true on every link out to other pages on the site from that form? Too many times I've seen that failed to be implemented.

What is the threshold for a page title to be considered duplicate?
Hi David, When you click for additional information, it shows title, meta description, and meta keywords, so I assume that this error is referring directly to the meta title, not an on-page title. Any help is appreciated!

How to fix keyword self-cannibalization?
In short - if you're unwilling to change the link text or the target keywords then you're not going to fix it. You already have 'Bison Meadows' on the page you're targeting and it's in the URL. My advice is to have the next level of pages just Lot 1, Lot 2, Lot 3... etc as you really don't need to be linking down another level with that keyword if you're doing effective SEO of the URL above.

I built a website on magentogo - IrisScottPrints.com. The seomoz crawl report states 301 rel canonical crawl notices. What if anything should I change?
thanks - does the name in the title tag of every page affect the rel canonical errors I'm seeing from my seomoz crawl reports.

What is the importance of image file names and H1, H2 and H3 tags
Hi John, These issues do matter, but it's all down to your perception of 'big'. Changing the titles and the alt tags aren't going to send a site soaring to number one, but they will help as part of a focused SEO effort. For the img tags; I wouldn't recommend simply adding the keywords into the alt tags. This looks spammy, and is no real help to anyone. Remember there are people out there who genuinely rely on these tags to enjoy a website. Make the alt tags contain genuine descriptions of the images, this will give a fuller and richer picture to the search engines, and it will help your visitors too. Win win. In terms of how, just add alt="" to your tags. E.g: [image: david.jpg] Using the appropriate H1/H2 tags is a strong factor in terms of on-page relevence, but again these should be genuine editorial titles rather than keyword features solely for the search engines. So yes, I would definitely say address these issues and tweak the site appropriately, but I would also recommend managing your clients expectations that these changes won't be the secret to success. Thanks, David

Did anyone Rankings drop massively last weekend ...Is this new google update ?
Hi Russ, Our traffic had gone down a little bit earlier in June but .... We first got an message on 22nd June - in GWT - Googlebot found an extremely high number of URLs on your site. Then on 26th June , 80% of our rankings for our keywords fell off a cliff. We don't know if it was the refresh from the panda update or if it was the google bot problem. We have never had this message beforebut noticed we had some dodgy urls being produced from our site. We don't know how long this has been going on for but wasnt sure if either the googlebot changed it's way of working or we just so happenned for the Panda refresh to happen a couple of days after the message. I would have thought that our rankings would have suffered on 11th June if it was the Panda that done it. In the meantime, we have put 301 redirects on the dodgy urls thanks Sarah.

WordPress Crawl Errors
Hi, Try installing Yoast's SEO WordPress plugin. Read the documentation and set everything up and it'll sort these problems and more. With regard to your 404 problem, download the csv file and look for the referrer column. This will show you where the link to the 404 page comes from. Cheers,

Duplicate Content- Best Practise Usage of the canonical url
1. Use the canonical tag. The assumption is that whatever rankings you may have garnered for the "small pack" version would now simply land on the other page. The duplicate content implications are far greater than the potential loss of some rankings. 2. Yes, use the canonical tag on the /index to point to just http://www.yoursite.com/

Redirecting URLS on windows
Hi Mister G, .htaccess files are the means used for creating redirects in a LAMP setup using an Apache server. To create redirects on a Windows box you need to use a quite different method. This quick reference chart for creating redirects should give you the information you need for most normal redirect situations. However, when working with .htaccess we would normally create a single rule that redirects all .html files to the .aspx file of the same name. Ours is a LAMP shop, so Windows is not our forte, but I believe you can do the same thing with the proviso that your server is set up for it. A little hard since I don't know exactly which Windows Server setup you are dealing with, but This link might help you out in doing that. Hope that helps, Sha

Hi Anthony, thanks for your answer. Sorry, but this is a duplicate question. After I posted it first time, SEOmoz still reported I didn't post any questions, ever. So I went ahead and typed it again. Your answer is valuable, so I will mark it as a good answer.
