Explore on-page optimization and its role in a larger SEO strategy.

  • In and of itself, I would not expect changes to the copy to materially impact your rankings. Of course, if you're making changes that changes your on-page optimization and keyword usage, then that could impact your rankings.

  • Hey all, I was reading this post and I have a slightly different situation wherein my products are appearing in different categories as duplicate entries and also as different urls, what are the implications then?

  • Hi Steven, Alan's suggestion of installing the Wordpress SEO by Yoast plugin is right on target. This plugin allows you to create a 301 redirect for any post and also to add the canonical link element if you prefer (only for single pages and posts). With the plugin installed, to add a 301 redirect, just click the Advanced tab and scroll to the bottom. Enter the URL you wish to redirect the post or page to and click Update. Obviously, the plugin writes the .htaccess rule for you, but if you do want to edit the .htaccess file directly, the Yoast plugin also allows you to do this. This plugin also includes a number of other features that allow you to deal with some of the technical shortcomings of Wordpress from an SEO point of view (duplicate content issues etc), so adds a lot of value. Hope that helps, Sha

  • Hi Irina, Meta keywords are unlikely to cause a penaly and are simply ignored. So you can do them but it's probably a waste of time. news_keywords only works if you are an accepted news source in google news and it's likely that this will only effect news results. This tag was created to give journalist more freedom with their headlines so they don't have to keyword stuff the headline. It's meant to lead to a more natural looking article while still giving an option to give some keyword indication of the theme. Hope that helps. Mulith

  • Hi! You can do a crawl test on up to 3000 pages at http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/crawl-test that should help you out!

  • The duplicate content issue is more of a negative than a positive in regards to creating a larger indexation rate. If these are useful to the user and build the relevancy of your site structure and content, add the "noindex, follow"- like Chris Holgate said.

  • Hi, From what I can tell, you are using OpenCart software. If you go to Opencart.com, you can find a list of modules / extensions. There are thousands but if you search for 'SEO', several extensions are available that offer the ability for 'friendly urls' or 'perfect product urls'. I'd have a good look at the ratings for each module before installing / purchasing any of them. Christina

  • What I feel is that when you are adding authorship markup against the website, there is a possibility that the ranking of your website is going to get reevaluated based on the Author Rank of the profile. So, if you have set up authorship mark-up against the website, you need to make the author profile look active. Promote it with Guest posting, keep it fresh with regular updates and all. Hopefully the ranking will recover, unless the website has been affected by any other algo change otherwise.

  • As long as you only use these tags to improve the usability of your site and don't stuff all those tags in your titles / descriptions, I don't see why it would hurt your SEO. Also make sure the tags you use are actually related to the content and or not just a set of keywords you'd like to rank for, although I don't get the idea that you are doing so.

  • There’s not one easy answer depending on how your site is built. The following help article is a good place to start, however, optimizing your site’s speed will take more knowledge of how your site is currently scripted and how you will need to modify the scripting of the site to increase the load times. http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/5780/how-can-i-speed-up-my-site

  • There is a marginal advantage to smaller CSS files, in terms of page speed.  I believe that Google's PageSpeed and Yahoo!'s ySlow both recommend that you're using a 'minify' tool on both your CSS and JavaScript in fact.  But again, the improvement is more often than not extremely minimal compared to other performance enhancements like Varnish. WordPress updates the default theme only when you do an upgrade.  So if the CSS file is attached to the default theme, yes.  Otherwise, no.

  • Does Google know that we own both of them? Google is a domain registrar and can probably see the registrants.  How much they use this is unknown.

  • Each line is comparing a different metric and in order to get a tick you need to be higher then all other sites your comparing against for that line item.

  • hotel is a generic term no one owns you can rank for this Google is not that smart. yet lol godaddy is a branded name so most likely godaddy complains and takes legal action on anyone trying to use their name to create brand confusion. That is against Google's TOS.
