  • To get more reviews, we email approx. 1 month after purchase. Social media channels can help, too. Sometimes calling the reviews - "product feedback -- help us improve our products!" can appeal to a different segment of potential reviews. You can have fun social media contests around writing reviews of products. Product reviews are a channel unto themselves, in my opinion. I do like the message board idea. I feel like message boards seem a little dated.

  • Maybe a better way to get an author is go out to see who are the very competent bloggers in your industry.  There you have someone who is excited enough about the subject because they have a message to share.  You get to see the quality of their work and perhaps their personality. One reservation that I would have about hiring a copywriting service is my concern that they might not be experts in the topics that I would ask them to write about yet accept the job and produce content that might have flaws or that might have a tone that anyone with experience in the field would know that they are winging it.

  • Thanks Ryan. I've been submitting but it is a process. Our rss feed doesn't seem to be accepted in blog rolls I've tried. I'm playing with feedburner to try and get one that will work properly. I'll work on the blog sitemap as well, thanks.

  • what causes it?  There are new web sites popping up all the time.  And existing sites are already out there with new content on those all the time as well. While some content, specifically that classified as "evergreen" deserves to be found, the task of determining what older content deserves to remain high as compared to other content is extremely difficult - far from perfect.

  • Hi Keri, It's the site of a regional newspaper, so the audience is certainly mixed. I don't see any other suitable model than using cookies. Nobody here who implemented a metered model before? Thanks for your reply, Keri. have a good day. Jan

  • I would be curious to look at each form of the pages using the LDA tool. The main reason to use the tool is to understand if you are significantly reducing the page's relevancy to your target keyword(s).

  • Thanks to both you and Keri - Even though my hype barks loudly of SEO I am a web designer who has had great luck in organic SEO via good page construction and my copywriting skills. I don't really "tune" other's sites - I rebuild them, usually in hand coded classic asp. Ergo, I am not actually a classic SEO service like many here. I am finding that I am facing my next tech upgrade here with off-page issues like this one. I got rid of the htaccess and added the above code in the head. I have never used htaccess like this before and use a format tailored to the server this site resides on. adapting it may have caused the gaffe. Again, many thanks.

  • Google shared they tested it with numerous major sites and it is implemented. For example, search "Matt Cutts" in Google. Notice how you see his profile image to the right of his results? I believe that is due to the rel=author tag.

  • Or if you are looking to post your articles on a reliable PR service which usually shows up on Google News I recommend - http://www.officialwire.com (yet it is a paid service) for a free service I recommend http://www.prlog.org

  • You should definitely bring your blog over to your own domain for all of the reasons you described already. Something like www.domainname.com/blog would be pretty ideal. This white board friday you should watch as well. It's really relevant to your question http://www.seomoz.org/blog/mixing-viral-content-with-business-content-whiteboard-friday

  • Autogenerated or inserted by hand makes no difference. I get LOTS of traffic because I cover some events and some people search for them with a date. To be certain that Google can read your dates or any other text information, view your page in google's cache.

  • Hi Vizion SEO. How come on a word press the same content on ... does not flag duplicate content? Why do you believe it does not? Clearly it is duplicate content. When Google finds duplicate content within a site, they take their best guess to determine which page is the primary version for a given search, and they offer that URL in SERPs. There is not a "penalty" per se, although many people refer to it as such. Sometimes the page Google shows is not the page you wish to appear, and some may interpret that as a penalty. Also, your link juice would be divided amongst the various versions of the URLs rather then consolidated so that can be perceived as a penalty as well. It is common for a home page to contain snippets of articles. That is what is happening on the vizionseo.com/blog page. It contains part of articles, and then you can click through to view the entire article. If you have a rather short article, then you can duplicate most of it's contents. This is normally not an issue as the home page, or main blog page in this case, has plenty of other content. I will also point out you do have an issue on your site. http://www.vizionseo.com/blog/2011/05/how-can-your-business-rank-high-on-google-maps/ http://www.vizionseo.com/blog/2011/05/how-can-your-business-rank-high-on-google-maps Both the above URLs point to the same page. The second URL is missing the trailing slash. This issue should ideally be resolved with the correct entry in your htaccess file on your server, but it can also be resolved by adding the canonical meta tag to your page. Until it is corrected you have a second form of duplicate content on your site. http://www.homesupershops.com/blog and http://www.homesupershops.com/blog-july have same content. Will this flag duplicate content on Google? Your /blog page is duplicating both of the entire articles from July. Your navigation, footer and both side bars are identical also on the pages. Clearly only one of those pages would be listed. I would recommend reducing your /blog page coverage of articles to the first ?200 words or so. You can offer a teaser of the article with a "continue reading..." link.
