  • I don't blame him one bit. Its a pain in the proverbial to get PHP running on IIS.

  • If you were to pre-write him comments and posts that made perfect sense, then you are either a) writing comments that make perfect sense but are so general that the person reading them knows that they could apply to hundreds of posts out there or b) you're reading the post and writing the comments so why are you bothering to hire him? I agree with the advice that EGOL and Sha have given, and would add that reading through the Beginner's Guide to SEO could also be helpful.

  • Hi, if the list makes sense, i.e. if a human being looks at it and finds nothing odd about it, I would not worry about it. I would suppose that this is the case here, as you are not doing it for SEO purposes. While the page in question might not rank highly as it is not optimized, I don't think it will have any negative implications for your site or other pages on it. If you are worried that it actually might look like keyword stuffing, try to come up with some text (without the keyword) and add it to the page - but only if it makes sense and adds value.

  • Testimonials are also a great way to get some content in the first-person voice where it's unnatural to do so otherwise. You can have a testimonial that says "Company xyz helped me fix my computer" and it's a way to get the phrase 'fix my computer' in and sound natural.

  • You need to look at Google Analytics and review the traffic sources, entry pages, pages/visit and time on pages. You should be able to determine by looking at the above stats and contrasting with different time periods if the traffic is authentic and where the source of the traffic is from. Please report back if you see any anomalies.

  • "... and following one of your links, which isn't a bad thing." Thanks, I did not know that.  So, if they visit one page and return to Google, that's a bounce, but if they visit one page and click through, that's not a bounce, right?  How far does that go?  Does Google know if I sent someone to a useful site vs a spammy site?  Is it partly a timing issue?  In other words, if they visit my site and then don't return to Google for a while vs returning immediately, is that one of their metrics? Best, Christopher

  • He should write the article on Monday and then post a tweet and link on Facebook on Friday. If his blog posts are permitted into Google News, he may want to wait until Friday, since freshness matters most in Google News. In any event, the client's content and link building efforts are the tools to get good rankings and it doesn't really matter what day the articles are posted.

  • Can this work as a temporary thing? So if i put a canonical tag in then take it out, once taken out and the page is crawled Google will then value it as unique content? I just don't want to do anything which makes Google think its permanent.

  • yeah, you want to avoid duplicate content issues where google has to choose which content to display so go for the snippet option. I like Wordpress. If you are using this platform I use the first 2 paragraphs for the main post feed and use the "Excerpt" option to control the snippets on category pages.

  • Google won't index image-embedded text on a webpage (currently only .pdf documents) If you want a little more insurance, which you won't really need, use your handy robot.txt or rel="canonical" As usual, keep your eyes forward: "While search engines may not use OCR for indexing the content of web pages now, that doesn’t mean that they might not in the future, and there are some indications that the search engines are developing a much greater proficiency in the use of optical character recognition." Here's that article, including some great references. Good luck.

  • I agree with EGOL here but if you want content evaluated and the best way is to put it out there through social and other forums for people to give you feedback.  I got some really great feedback from this forum for example on my site recenly that I have been working on since nearly every day. Tools generally only take you to a certain point.  If you are at the early stages of writing content and are reluctant to put it out in the main stream then use your email address book and ask for feedback on a few links from friends and if they are good friends they will help with some feedback. But ultimately it is the market that gives the best feedback and needs you to pump it out bit by bit.  Copyblogger says write , then write some more then write some more again [paraphrased here a bit]
