  • I agree with EGOL and Takeshi. If you want your blog to work and you have a content strategy in place where you will be adding a lot of useful content and you would want that content to rank by itself, I would try to put it on the domain.com/blog. Now you know that already, that's why you asked the question. **One solution you might have is to find out if bigcommerce can do Reverse Proxy. That way a domain could be hosted at anywhere.whateverdomain.com but to the search engines and everything else it will appear as yourdomain.com/blog. ** The reason a lot of these hosted platforms do not allow wordpress is because of security issues. They then have another piece of software / files / plugins in the same environment which is sometimes a threat.

  • Thanks for your reply, very helpful.  I'm trying to do the same with rel publisher to get my clients logos appearing from their google plus page.  I mainly use wordpress sites and using authorsure plugin, but I'm still getting to grips with it and running lots of tests. I think the ghostwriting is the best option.  The director of the company will be happy to use his image, but he doesnt (or didnt) have a google plus profile.  I've just set him one up. Does authorship really only benefit by showing you the face of the author is or there actually any additional 'google points' for it being a highly engaged and highly circled account? Thanks for your response anyway, much appreciated!

  • I did a little tweak in my case, i edited the comments template and remove the link on the comment author names. If it is in the comment body you will need to do it manually or via sql

  • Hi Gareth, Alt image text, a smart file name (keyword rich), a good (re: fast loadable) file size and captions are all solid starts. That data helps to tell Google as much as possible about the image.

  • Thank you Cyrus. I do have Bimg WMT, but I haven't checked out all of thise things. Thank you, I will. Google's URL count is a little high now, since I moved a million pages onto subdomains two months ago. They are very slow in releasing the pages I don't want them to have. As you say, Bing is very low, and I don't understand why that is, because it should be around 96,350 Alan

  • Hi Diane, To be honest, I wouldn't expect much SEO benefit out of this site. The type of articles submitted give the impression of a low-quality article directory. The other red flag is they seem to accept just about anyone with very little editorial oversight. In the past, evidence suggests that Google tends to not place much value on links from sites like this. If you're looking to attract traffic, I'd spend a considerable amount of effort to ensure you're creating high quality, relevant value on your site, and then sharing/engaging by perusing a more specific audience, as opposed to a general article directory. For example, you could use Followerwonk to find influencers in your specific niche, and try to get your content in front of them. If you're looking for ideas/inspiration, here's a good place to start: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/category/content-and-blogging Best of luck with your SEO!

  • Definitely a plus if you have good engagement.  One signal on quality is engagement in comments.

  • One thing to try testing is to have your product at the top of the page, with all your content below it utilizing tabs. A great example of an ecommerce site that does this (that's killing it in SEO) is Overstock: http://www.overstock.com/Office-Supplies/Ergo-Value-Mesh-Medium-Back-Task-Chair/3861788/product.html See how they have the product at the top with a short paragraph and a buy button, but below it they have a bunch of tabs with content on them with additional info such as product details, reviews, q&a, etc. This is a great approach for balancing sales conversions and having more content on the page.

  • Hi Mike, I kind of get the quesiton but not sure if I completely got it. You can place a Google+ icon at the bottom of every page and direct it to your corporate G+ page; however, that will require your webmaster or something that can edit the website to do so. Yes, it is good to include a rel="author" tag in a link to the author's G+ page.  It gives the author credit, help combine all of the authors post on your website when searched on Gogole and also the author's Google+ profile image will also in the search engine result page if the article shows up.  Based on researches, people are more likely to click on links on the SERP with the author's picture.  It kinds of give people a trust feeling. I also read an article together (can't find it now) saying that Google place links with author picture higher than those without. Hope this answer your questions.

  • I agree with Mark.  The question should be based on what kind of content you're putting there. If you're wanting to make a community, why don't you use it to highlight users of your product or service?  This way they can share it as well and help you create your content.

  • Thanks for the replies. Sound advice. Good news is the other directory where it was posted with modified links have taken it down on the back of a Google cached copy I sent them. I don't mind writing, I sometimes even enjoy it. Rewriting though - anything to not have to!
