  • lol...  if you really want a grin, I should forward some of the crap people send to me.   I have decided that most people who send me infographics are doing that because they can't write articles.... and they can't create infographics either.   So I have blocked their entire domains from my inbox.  PTL that gmail allows an unlimited number of filters.

  • Thanks Federico, Moosa and Keri for your input! I was guessing that's exactly what the responses were going to be, especially Keri's with respect to making sure it's stated that credit is provided where credit is due. I get referencing data, but just copying word for word, even the title of the articles is a bit much, and very lazy. At least change the title to be somewhat unique and summarize the content into your own words, THEN provide the source link for "Read more here....." Thanks, again! - Cheers! Patrick

  • A blog is just a list of articles and posts anyways, so it sounds like you're actually writing a blog anyways.

  • Thanks Keri As of yesterday we used Copyscape premium. We also ran a few tests on this for obvious duplicates - pleased to say everything seemed to run smoothly and like you said, it's very quick to process. Your feedback is much appreciated. Regards Gary

  • Are you the only one with permission to publish the content? If not, and there are others, you will need to canonical to where the publisher/owner of the content has the content up. If you are the only approved publisher on the web, you can make others canonical to you, but it'll be a battle.

  • As I understand authorship, the goal of google launching it is to identify authors who are popular and authoritative. The person who produces great content has the best opportunity to benefit from authorship, and his/her clients will benefit at the same time.  At present, google might not be using it to rank pages in the SERPs, however, it is very likely that they will use it in the future. A person who is producing utility content might receive very little benefit, or even dilute the value of his/her best content. So, what I am doing is claiming authorship of the premium material that I produce (that being defined as a page of content that is one of the best on the web for its topic) and not claiming it on utility writing. Part of authorship is claiming YOUR brand.  If you produce great content then people who search frequently in the topic areas where you produce content will see your photo beside your content in the SERPs.  That can build a tribe of people who like your work and might earn you higher CTR over time.  This will benefit you on all future author-claimed work.  It can also benefit your clients - which can make you a more valuable author - especially if authorship becomes an important factor in ranking webpages.

  • Actually I am not targeting Iran. My main market is the US and Canada but here are people who like to use a Farsi portal. So what I am planning to do is to have my English website(Primary one) like abc.com/lang:eng and then add a sub-directory for Farsi like abc.com/lang:far for the times users choose to switch the language to Farsi. Then I can use specific Farsi meta titles and description for my Farsi version of the website which obviously would be totally different than my English version. It is in a way the same way as the reference website you mentioned is doing.

  • I personally never see Pinterest in my search results.  I just did a few searches for topics I like and they have awful descriptions, etc.  I don't know how many people search goole for Pinterest topics instead of just going to pinterest itself.  I do understand what you mean.

  • That would be rel=publisher but I haven't seen it show up for searches when I'm not signed in to my Google+.  Meaning that I believe (no evidence) that it only shows up the company logo when someone who is searching is signed into G+ and already follows the brand.  Not 100% on that. You can check to see if rel=publisher is markedup correctly in Google's rich snippets testing tool. http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets I have it for my homepage,  http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?q=www.vzpro.com  You'll see half way down the page that there is a place that shows Publisher markup

  • This is a neat idea and like Oleg said should be straightforward for you to do if you just cookie all visitors.  You could then check  what cookie they have, and show the defined images (or pull several images from your DB).  I don't know of any "pre-made" tool that will do this for you, dynamic remarketing through Google adwords is somewhat similar but that is showing a set of images to users who are no longer on your site (user goes to x product page, and are shown x product later when they are watching video on youtube  ect...)

  • Here's the rankings I'd give on relevance: "Cleaning Marble Floors" - highly relevant, but probably too restrictive to continually create decent content. "Anything Related to Marble Floors" - just about right. Relevance is high in terms of search engines and your readers, and you're not getting too far away from the topic of the business. "General Flooring" - OK, but probably too broad if cleaning wood floors is irrelevant to your business. "Home Improvement" - Way too broad for the type of site you're running. As far as finding writers, I'd avoid most of the content that you'll get for under $25 for a blog post. It's going to be poorly researched, and probably poorly written, too. Start with networks like Zerys or Skyword and look for writers with experience with construction/flooring/marble.

  • I'll probably go with a nicely designed iframe, with the full text and a link to the site's original post so interested readers can read more by accessing your site. Consider all possibilities, like the iframe size auto-adjusting to the available size, or giving the users the ability to choose from different sizes (like youtube does).

  • Zerys and Skyword are both decent options. Craigslist and Problogger can be good options as well. No matter where you go, you'll want to hire a few writers and select the best ones to write additional content. Don't give a writer an order of 10 articles without being sure that they're producing good content for you.

  • Hi Kieran, I feel the pain you as a business owner would be going through when you don't see all those efforts performing. I am sure you have done your research on best practices however I would like to highlight the golden rule for online marketing success again for you. The secret is not volume, it's always quality and consistency. I completely agree with Peter that you should not scrap the old pages with mediocre content unless they are "Not Unique". I have often seen that mediocre content is usually created through article spinning practices. While there could be many ways to take a leap from here, however since I am not fully aware of your situation and limitations, here are some ideas: 1. List down all articles on your website in a spreadsheet and write down the following information against them: a) Topic b) Target Readers (Existing Customers / New Customers / Both) c) Target Location of Readers d) Objective of the article e) Actions you expect the readers to take f) Is the article Unique and Original? Please note this is not about the quality or creativity, pure uniqueness. g) Is the quality of article poor, fair, or excellent? This is on the basis of creativity, knowledge and engagement potential of the article. h) keywords being targeted in this article. 2. Put a filter on content quality and uniqueness and filter down all articles with fair and excellent quality and uniqueness. 3. Now starts the more difficult task of marketing these articles all over again. This is going to be time consuming and would need attention to detail. But hey honestly, there are no shortcuts to success. a) For each article that you have filtered out, make sure you verify this before proceeding any further. All those article pages you have selected MUST have appropriate ON PAGE Meta info. Ensure you have proper titles, descriptions and keywords for each of those pages. Also try and spend 5 minutes on each article and see if you can build internal links (3-4) for each one of them. b) For each article that you have filtered out, do a keyword detailed using Moz analysis and find out the links and ranking factors. I am assuming you know how to do this, or please contact me and I will help you through the steps. c) Now write following for each of those selected articles. A 200-300 word Press Release (teaser), a 30-40 word Facebook post (preferably with a picture), write a twitter post for that article, 50-100 words article preview teaser (inspired from the press release), Email Teaser (50-100 words) d) Now for each article please do the following, in no order (as per your convenience): i) Submit press release to sites like PRweb.com if your budget allows or choose sbwire.com or similar sites. ii) Share the facebook & twitter posts. iii) Through your moz analysis for the targeted keywords, identify blogs and forums which are relevant for your article and submit your article teaser that you created in previous step to these sites. iv) Send emails to all your existing customers who are relevant for that article and if possible invest in some email marketing list too. Please do not buy ready made lists however using hoovers / linkedin etc is advisable. I hope my suggestions help you drive higher and relevant traffic to your website. Please feel free to send me any questions you may have. Thanks & Regards, Prateek Chandra http://www.bizezee.com
