I remember in the past, competitors used to do this to harm the SEO of others.
they may have purchased these links with just few dollars..
In general for home page title we prefer to have to company name 1st and the keywords to follow. This applies only for the home page. In your case I an guessing that the first words e.g. XYZ Company, have a difference in how is written at the end. It may have taken this from the Heading 1 or alternative sources to ensure better quality.
To overcome the issue, change the title to;
XYZ Company - shoe store...
Is there a way round this problem? The target group in most cases is around 50k. Would it be better to create two different boosts which each one targets a different group of people?
On a Facebook page I manage it has been noticed or atleast argued that the more you spend on a boost for a specific day the less conversion it makes.
for example: spending 10 euro/dollars on a boost would give:
but by spending 40 euro/dollars would give nearly the same:
we have run this a few times with similar outcomes.. Any ideas or did you have a similar outcome?
In cases like this I always say: if it cost's nothing to remove it, then remove it!
you want see a boost, but atleast you have a better base for the future, since we just dont know how things will end up
What could also help is to ensure that you host the domains on different servers and have more unique content where possible. Itenaries would be the same but I am sure you could re-write the activies. Also the main pages of the website, the pages which you are relying for ranking on popular keywords ensure that the content is unique.
If one of the two websites is more valuable in SEO prospective then take that love first, ensure that the Search Engines pick it up, before taking the other live.
additional points in order to stay seperate:
have google analytics and web master tools on different accounts for each website.
Basically the domain: http://buy.gazelle.com/ has following:
DOMAIN AUTHORITY 66 /100
PAGE AUTHORITY 48 /100
Is not just another random website, since it has many links and especially links from Iphone related pages, e.g.:
http://www.cnet.com/news/apple-watch-trade-ins-coming-soon-says-swap-site-gazelle/
which the above has 52 DA (Page Authority)
Now as to the question about the the zero content, is not that much of a zero if you look at the customer comments. You basically don't expect much of a content from such a topic. So what customers say matters more than information about the product, which as you said above other pages on the website have such information. What Google views in this page, is that this a URL near the home page (1 step away), which it values this page more than the rest of the pages. It may also view that the website has a lot of information regarding the Iphone, thus making it authority for this topic.
Also the most important thing is that it has links to this specific page from many pages of this websites, although not appearing in MOZ Open Site Explorer at the moment.
Also the competitors ranking for this keyword, have a different meta-title, thus having lower chances of ranking above http://buy.gazelle.com/buy-used-iphone-5/

Yes i am in non competitive industy( mp3 download).
concentrate on your on-page SEO, try to get UGC on your website, since it should match well with the industry you are in and in few months you will see a difference!
When you in a such low volume or non competitive industry, is important to know that Google may allow someone with low quality even someone using grey hat SEO to rank just because that someone maybe better than the rest..
having gone that road, never mess with black hat. Keep it nice and clean, work on your website, improve your on-page optimization, report them to be on the safe side, and wait...
the worse thing someone could do is fight fire with fire. Let them burn and stay clear. The only issue is if you are in a non competitive industry.. Is that the case?
I would basically take a different approach.
You could just add a canonical tag to the page that you want to keep ranking in the serps. Then add the same canonical to the other page (the page thats going to be deleted from the serps).
rel="canonical" href="https://www.commercialtrust.co.uk/btl/landlord-advice/mortgages/btl-mortgage-80-ltv/"/>
add the above to both pages..
You could basically ensure that those who are submitting these articles are optimizing the work for you. Am referring to basic on-page optimization on at-least having an appropriate:
I believe the above are the very basic things you could ensure that your submission template does for you by default. Now as for the link coming to this page 'article page' make sure its keywords based link, article name for example.
Yes, in an addition to the canonical tag you will need to setup the redirects. But am not sure how you would do that on microsoft server.
Your webmaster should as the tag for you.. your programmer would be able to handle the issue with the friendly URL's but that's a complicated process because they should redirect the old pages to the new...
Yes you could use a canonical tag for every single page you have (which you have thousands as I discovered).
The other issue that you are facing is that your URL's are not user friendly. If you had some friendly URL's it would be easier for Google to understand your pages.
As for the canonical tag please use a sample as the below:
There is so many articles online talking about this topic. A blog should contain under 6 links which under 4 is the most desired. is not the quantity is the quality of the links. A resource i found is below:
If you have new pages which have the same or similar content as the old pages, those old pages should be redirected to the new ones. If you are to use a ready made plugin or go for the traditional way thats up to you.
It doesn't necessary affect your rankings, but it could sometimes mess things up. I would suggest just ask your developer to include it for every page. If two pages have similar content, you may choose to use the same canonical, so that google would index only one of those two pages.
hope this helps...
<code>You should have the below canonical tag in you meta information! This should be available for every page of your website!
Check also the information posted by Google (guidelines) on the below link:
[https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139066?hl=en](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139066?hl=en) PS. If you view the source code of this very page, it has it's own canonical! This is to help crawlers identify the uniqueness of the page, especially if you have two pages with similar or duplicated content.</code>
