Company name in title tags for lesser known brands - yes or no?
Hi Marcus Thanks for the reply. Yeh I think you're right in that it needs to be reviewed on a case by case basis taking into account the goal of the page. Off topic: Just checked out your latest blog post (cracking post btw!),clicked through to the kwfinder tool out of interest and the keyword data it returns for UK searches appear to be American? Have you tested the tool yourself? Do you find the same problem as me? Feel free to reply to me on Twitter given it's noting to do with this Q & A thread Cheers! Anthony

Weird title tag in SERps (see attachment)
I agree with chris, if its not needed why have it? As for doing harm, Duane Forester from Bing advised not to do it, and said that sites that misuse the canonical tag, Bing will ignore them all together. There is also the line of thought, that we know that canonical tags do not pass all link juice, just like 301's or any request, there is a certain amount of decay, 15% in the original google algorithm. It just may be that when you have a canonical back to yourself, it is followed and that you get that decay unnecessarily

Wordpress blog in a subdirectory not being indexed by Google
Thanks guys! God I feel so stupid - I should have checked that. I got so obsessed about the magento/wordpress thing that checking the canonical completely slipped my mind! Oh well at least if anyone else ever has the same problem, the resolution is here for all to see! Take care, Anthony

Seomoz crawl reporting thousands of 302 redirects?
Thanks Anthony. Very helpful. First thing. I don't actually see "add to compare" as an actual function anywhere such as http://www.deskcentre.co.uk/shop/next-day/next-day-office-desks.html - but it's in the HTML source code as well as Google's text only cache. Is this function something you want to exist? Because I don't see it anywhere Second - I am only seeing this as an issue for "compare" not "add to basket". The add to basket links are behind JavaScript and are not getting picked up on my crawl with Screaming Frog. Two options then; If you in factDO want the "add to compare" function, you can block http://www.deskcentre.co.uk/shop/catalog/product_compare/add/product/ in robots.txt - allow that function for the user but not let Google crawl it. However, I am kind of thinking you DON'T want the function available because it's not visible and is does 302 redirect. If this is the case, see if you can disable it entirely and then it won't show up in your source code. If you can't disable it, you can still block it with robots.txt and Google won't crawl them. Hope that helps! -Dan

Using Reg Ex to 301 old categories and query strings in Magento
Thanks for taking the time to answer. Yeh I mean regular expression, it's apache mod-rewrite and we use .htaccess I'm struggling to figure out to 301 old url query strings to the new ones. There are several possible query strings for each product category so would take forever to do them one by one in magento re-write. The query strings will be the same i.e. ?price=1%2C10 but the category url will be different as you can see in my example above. any ideas or do I need to hire an expert? Thanks

Linking to a site in the US from a site in the UK - Good, bad or not important?
Hi Nakul We don't have a lot of outgoing links, it would be linking from a blog post of ours. I've always thought that as long as the site being linked to is relevant then it doesn't matter what country. I just wanted to make sure. Thanks
