Documentation to back up strategy for satellite sites
HI, Personally I would stay away from satellite sites - very dangerous ground that can back fire very easily. What I would suggest is focus all efforts that are you planning to put into the satellite sites and build one single competitor site for your main site - and don't inter link (at least not just yet). Build this new site - you can call it a satellite domain if you want - but act like is a stand alone site with his own path in life When this site will have authority and only then, link to sites in the industry including yours if you still want to send most of the PR to your current main site. You can even link to competitors if you want to but don't link to the pages that you fight for

Site rankings dropped from ~15 to 500+ but Google says we were not penalized
Yes you are right. I just wanted to help by making you see that your problem has in fact happened to many people. Mine is a bit diferent. To be honest, I still don't know why it happened and Google also told me it was not a penalization... Good Luck.

Can I target the same keywords on multiple sites?
The short answer is no, there is no issue with targeting the keywords on each site but you will have to put twice the work in... A better option would be to use the same site and build more domain authority to that site and target some different keywords to increase traffic. Or are you trying to appear on the first SERP page multiple times using different domains?

Local Listings for a Virtual Product
Hi Sara, To qualify for local inclusion, your business needs to meet these criteria: Has a unique street address (not a PO box, not a virtual office) Has a unique local area code phone number in the city of location (not an 800 number or tracking number) Has face-to-face transactions with its customers, either at the place of business (like a hair salon) or at the customers' locations (like a window washer). It sounds like #3 may be the sticking point for you. Do you have in-person transactions with your customers? Feel free to provide further details on this.

Should "white label" sites be unique IP addresses?
Hi, Just to clarify - my company sells geo-location specific products that can usually only be sold to people living in the local country. The sites will therefore be something such as: Widgets in Australia Widgets in UK Widgets in South Africa Do you think having them be hosting on separate IPs be a high priority (currently they are scheduled to all be hosted on the same IP and changing the strategy will be one of those SEO vs R&D discussions)

Do you know what adf.ly is?
Although the service itself is legit it is possible for people to abuse their system to spam other sites. I filed a complaint and was able to add our site to their blocklist. Thanks for you help!

Should pages of old news articles be indexed?
Ah I'm sorry I misinterpreted you - so it's essentially about pagination? Rel Next/Rel Previous is probably the best way to go - the first page will be given the equity and the pages won't have to compete with each other for ranking. Google have a pretty comprehensive guide: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1663744

Do you need legal rights to pictures in Facebook posts
...it's perfectly acceptable to link and then attribute the image. This is incorrect. This is theft. ...it seems to be acceptable. It is not acceptable. Can cost you $150,000 and the copyright holder does not have to prove financial loss. You better be careful.

Guest blogging for the gaming industry
Online Gambling is always going to be very black hat and difficult to rank for 'legitimately' I found that using the wayback machine (http://archive.org/web/web.php) can help rat out spammy Gambling sites that have changed around. As well as this it is just a matter of searching and finding those hidden gems or pushing some kind of high quality viral / media campaign where you can get into the higher quality websites. Gambling and Pills are always going to be very blackhat so maybe you need to change hat slightly.

Does blocking domains help remove bad links?
You could try to block the URL in robots.txt like Sanket says below, but at the end of the day, the link's still pointing to your website and therefore Google will still see it. If I'm not mistaken, Bing has launched their disavow tool already (Ref: http://www.serperture.com/blog/link-building/disavow-link-tool-block-bad-incoming-links), so perhaps you should at least start there?

Blog Categories
As Saijo has answered here, it is perfectly fine to have the same posts in multiple categories. It will be useful to define how you want your site architecture/ hierarchy of categories beforehand, for example, whether you want to place the brand at a higher level than the product type or vice versa, or for that matter keep both of them at the same level. This really depends on how you are positioning the site.
