Hi Hannah, "I think" I will just leave the .com in place... I can see a lot more .co.uk's in the SERP's for my keywords but perhaps that is just because I live in England and everyone has bought .co.uk's I have already done the geo targeting in web master tools and claimed a places page etc. Thanks for your help Keith

I have two wordpress blogs and category pages are where most of my search engine traffic enters.  Some bring in thousands per month.  Most of my post pages bring in very little traffic. If you are not having any problem with duplicate content at present maybe it would be a good idea to allow indexing of the main page, the post pages and the category pages.  They if you do have a duplicate content problem you can remove from the index the pages that bring in the least amount of traffic.

I will advise you to target your keyword on main page because main page has more weight and trust in front of Google. So it should be easier to bring it on Top Page of Google. Also if you have another page with relevant information to your keyword then if will be great if you put a link on this page targeting on main page. of course the anchor should be your keyword.

You can link to a sub-page if you want but the WHOLE point of your question (which is how I read it) is that you wanted to concentrate on improving your client rankings for the keyword "computer page" tied to their home page. That means generating as many "unique domain" links into your home page for that anchor text from external, related pages. But again, to promote a "diverse link profile" you want to vary that anchor text. Hence my first answer.

I don't think area sub nav is that prohibitive, especially with listing 8 cities.

My plan was to build 3 or 4 location pages for the locations we provide tech support for and target location based keyword Anchor text to these URL's e.g "Tech Support Brighton" and then for the home page build links that have the anchor text "Tech Support". A sound plan from a SEO perspective. The one caution I would mention is to be 100% consistent with your anchor text. It is especially important since your keywords are similar. Whenever "Tech Support Brighton" is used throughout your site, it should be an anchor text link to the appropriate page on your site. This method sends a clear signal to Google as to which page should rank for the term.
