Hi Alick
Thanks for the info and video ill check it out now.
Hi All,
I have been using some scanning tools as usual and I keep getting notified about presentational HTML. I'm not involved in the web design but if this is actually having a negative effect then we need to get it changed.
Can anyone advise?
"pages of this website were found to use presentational HTML elements and/or attributes. It is widely regarded that use of presentational HTML like and
should be avoided."
Hi All,
In regards to W3C Compliance, is this still an important ranking factor? Has anyone become compliant and seen a noticeable difference in rankings?
Cheers,
Hi Andrew
Use Nibbler! This will do what you want and it doesn't confuse you with too many graphs, it just gives you a 0 - 10 rating and a colour to go off. It will check 5 pages of your site so get everything scoring as close to 10 as possible and then you can just replicate the changes you made across the entire site when your more comfortable with what your doing.
Also scan through your site using www.quicksprout.com
That ones pretty good as well but Nibbler provides better explanations and instructions.
**UPDATE
We hit #2 last night and have held the position this morning. Hopefully a stronger link profile will now take us to #1!
Your sitemap will already be doing that and you can get Google to index a page almost immediately by using the "fetch as Google" section in your Google Webmaster Tools.
Probably not a direct answer to your question but have you thought about putting all those helpful links on your 404 page instead? Your site instantly goes from Zero to Hero in my eyes if it has a friendly 404 page
Cheers Mark I just wanted to make sure.
Our SEO and content is more on point than ever at the moment - as is site speed and errors - but from your response I am deducing we need to get a stronger link profile to knock them off the #2 spot.
That's where ill focus.
Thanks for that
Hi Mozzers,
I have been putting a lot of work into ranking for a certain search term. We have managed to get our homepage to #3 for that search term.
#1 is a comparison site, so I am not overly fussed with beating them - we probably won't. But we do want to hit #2 and in all fairness, we have better content and have put more into our SEO efforts than the current #2. I think they are ranking so strongly because their brand name is exactly that search term with the word "go" in front of it. Google even spits out their extra links under the result as if it was a branded result.
I know EMD's don't hold much weight any more so I'm guessing this is all to do with their clever brand name choice.
My question is, can you outrank a competitor like that?
If you're selling wooden rocking horses and your company is called toybox.com for example, but your competitor is called GoWoodenRockingHorses and their domain is www.gowoodenrockinghorses.com, can toybox.com ever outrank them for the search term "wooden rocking horses"?
Hope this makes sense, please private mail me for more info if you need it!
Cheers,
Jamie
It's impossible to reach out to multiple people who specifically just liked a post/picture. The best thing to do is remind FB users to Like the page NOT JUST the post. It may seem like begging or unsavoury and "spammy" looking but it works.
"Don't forget to LIKE OUR PAGE for more like this" would do fine.
Agreed Monica
I'm looking forward to this update lol!
Neil Patel -http://www.quicksprout.com/ - http://www.kissmetrics.com/ - http://www.crazyegg.com/
I get his newsletter and read his blog posts. I particularly like Neil as his posts aren't dripping with arrogance like most, he is very active and he is okay with saying stuff that contradicts the official statements of Google.
One of my favourites.
Hey no worries David, I owe them a pint!
Hey Ryan,
It's just started working again around 15 minutes ago for me. I do need to take advantage of the Moz Analytics campaigns, I'll set one up.
Have a good one bud
Hi all,
Is anybody else having trouble with Rank Tracker this morning? It doesn't want to play with me today.
It just hangs when the update rank button is clicked. They all go orange/amber and think about it for a while but never update. Any ideas?
Dennis & Erica, Thanks for your input.
I'll wait for Linkedin to release something. At least I'm not alone with this one.
Hi All,
Just wondering... since the demise of Linkedins' Signal tool, is there a way to actually see who and where my content is being shared on Linkedin? Blog posts being published at the minute are getting inshares almost as soon as they're live and I want to know who's doing it.
Any advice would be appreciated.
