Adult dating site. How can I get people to share content on facebook or google plus..
Greetings Samuel, Good question I would seek to create content that is not strictly adult related but more about the benefits that are possible such as happier love life, finding new relationships and create content around these ideas. You have to play very carefully within Google+, Pinterest and Facebook as they are more than happy to shut down any accounts that get enough reports for sharing inappropriate or self promotional content. Also Facebook will likely flag your ads for review and may not even allow you to run them so buying Facebook likes via their Advertising platform may not be an option. Content will be the long term strategy....

Ranking a site in the USA
Hi Samuel, You've got most of the things right. A .com domain works fine along with US hosting. Just make sure you get links to your city pages from local US sites. Contribute to the local communities and get them talking about you online and Google will pick up the signal. As for checking rankings, you can use Bright Local to set up your campaign. Its fairly accurate. https://tools.brightlocal.com/seo-tools/local-search-rank-checker/tool To check rankings manually, on the bottom right of your Google.co.uk screen you will see Google.com. Click that and the .com version opens. You can set your custom location in the left side panel.

Why are reciprocal links still being used widely?
From what I get out of Rand's comment above, there's no existing penalty in Google's algorithm for reciprocal linking. So it's a great idea, and yes jumping on board with the single goal of beating your competitors will get you fast results. But those results might be short term if the reciprocal links you're involved with don't make sense logically. What happens if in a month the webspam team rolls out another Panda focused on devaluing any reciprocal links that don't appear natural? Would you rather watch your competitors get washed off the first page, while you climb? Or join them in the rankings loss (and more importantly, traffic loss)?

Could incorrect H1 tag stop a page ranking?
Hi Samuel, The H1 element on a page plays a large roll in ranking, but it isn't the only factor. I had a client once whose web designer placed the websites logo in an H1 tag, by removing the H1 tag, and correctly playing the targeted keywords in the H1 tag per page, we managed to jump up the ranks fairly well. My opinion on this matter is that this could well be the problem, but if things don't change within the next 7 days, then I would look at a full audit on one of the pages in question. It is also important to note that you should only use one H1 tag per page, and rather use H2 or H3 for subsequent "titles". I hope that helps!

Local SEO - Rich content and list of towns enough?
Hi Samuel, Google will consider you most relevant to whatever your physical address is - this is the locale for which you can work towards your main local/blended rankings. Beyond this, yes, you can work for organic visibility for other towns you serve in. Having a unique landing page for each of your major service cities is a smart way to go. You can then linkbuild to these pages to go after organic visibility. I agree that you should not simply go the route of listing towns in a list. Have you considered blogging? Instead of putting too many geo terms per page, have you considered using a blog to showcase weddings you've done in Camden, etc.? A few photos of your band, folks dancing, pics of the venue and 400-600 words of text describing the event, songs the couple requested, testimonials from the bride and groom or family members would make a strong blog post on the subject and could get that long tail traffic you seek. The nice thing about this would be that it would naturally generate very unique content. Though I'm sure there are similarities in all your gigs, each one must be a little bit different, right? And, it would enable you to optimize part of your site for things like regional and neighborhood/district names. I hope this is a helpful suggestion.

Setting a geographic target in webmaster tools
Hi Samuel, Unless your site is targeting a specific country, then leave it blank. Don't be tempted to point it at US or UK, as you will be essentially telling Google that your site is only relevant for those users, and you will see your international traffic dip. Good luck David

Access denied errors in webmaster tools
Samuel Mat's right - you need to speratae the "access denied" pages into two buckets; those which you want indexed those which you don't want indexed. For those you want indexed, take them on a page by page basis to figure out why access is being denied. They might not all be because of password protection. -Dan

.gb.net domains good for SEO?
In terms of SEO there is no extra advantage of it! And at the same time this sounds a bit difficult. In my opinion the domain name should be short, simple and easy to remember instead of all this shortcut tactic…

Navigation causing too many links
To combat this Sam have you thought about having your top level of navigation broad match such as counties in UK and then when the user selects the county from the menu they are presented with a page that lisst the cities and towns, thus cutting down the number of links in the navigation on your homepage, then you can still create pages for your desired locations. I have done something similar in another niche.. I have found users don't mind having to take one extra step to narrow down their search - I think it would only be a real issue if you start requiring 3+ clicks to get to their desired information/page.

Should I diversify internal anchor text
Thank you! For internal anchors, I can't see how Google would consider wikipedia's practice to be manipulative. It is simply providing easy connects for any visitor who wants them.

Any value in link building to local pages on my site?
Hi Samuel, Link building to the localized pages won't help your pursuit of ranking the main page for the term 'wedding bands', however it will help the individual pages rank for the localized terms (Manchester Wedding Bands etc), which in turn will lead to more targeted traffic coming into the site (which I assume is the ultimate goal?) In terms of the localized link building; try and 'think local' when you come to picking your targets. Of course, you want the links to be coming from authoritative domains, however relevancy also plays a big part, so getting a link from a Manchester lifestyle blog to your Manchester wedding bands page will be a great signal. If you are looking to rank the local pages, the first thing I would suggest is putting in a suitable navigational structure to get to them. From first glance at your site, it seems you can only get to these pages using a site search, which isn't great for users or the search engines. Best of luck with the site, let me know if you want any advice. Thanks, David

Should I change wordpress urls?
Including the keyword in the URL would be better. If you change the URL's I would recommend downloading a redirect plugin. WordPress will not automatically redirect for you. You should beable to change the page/post URL by editing the SLUG!

Changing Wordpress Permalinks Bad For SEO?
Hi Samuel, You're on the right track with this question, but you might want to think about your site architecture some more. I went to your wedding-singer page then to the homepage and couldn't find any way to actually get back by clicking any links. You should think about reviewing your navigation on page. You're right that /home/ isn't adding any benefit but you won't receive any huge benefits just by changing the directory to /live-music/ either.. but I do think it's better to have something more relevant than not. If you do change the URL, you'll need to set up a 301 redirect to point all links to the new page, and thus flow the old link juice to the new page as well. Wordpress has some good plugins that are very easy for that (simple 301 plugin for example). Be careful about creating too many 301 redirects with the WP plugin as it can cause your site to slowdown as all of those redirects are stored in the database, rather than in the .htaccess file. The link juice lost isn't that significant in my opinion. Just work on building some nice authority links to the new URL. And remember to be "organic" in your link anchor text not to face the wrath of Penguin Hope that helps, Jordan

Anchor text diversity - post penguin.
I think for a start you need to not worry about percentages or nit-picking over calculations. Here are some basic principles Firstly make sure your website itself is great and that your content reads well for human beings, then perform your on-site optimisation to make sure the site is primed for your choice of keywords. In my view, if you've selected your keywords, your on-page optimisation has to be the next step - because any visitors you are bringing into your site from search must be engaged and interested. Get some colleagues/friends to read it through. Then begin your link-building. Make sure you have a range of type of link - editorial posts, reviews or relevant articles you've written, some directories maybe, get engaged into some relevant communities to what you do - have you exhibited at a wedding fair? Then see if the venue organisers list their exhibiters and get listed. You will need to have a good proportion of links with your target anchor text - but they must be in-context, so worry about that aspect on the sites you have the most control over - i.e. doing an article on a wedding blog about selecting the right music for your wedding. If link building is done 'naturally' then the range of anchor texts will come as different sites will link to you in different ways. Some may allow keyword-rich anchors Some will be business name Some will be 'Website' Some will be your website URL etc etc Google in particular likes brand value - so ensure you are building awareness of your brand through all your marketing activities, through online and offline means. So build a strategy for your link building but make sure the keyword range is broad and steer clear of 'best wedding singer' unless you've got sufficient awards or something that merits the title. Oh and one final thing might be to grow your own website with relevant information or helpful articles, or even different styles of singing you do. Some couples may want a romantic wedding singer or a 'fun, jazzy' one. You could easily broaden your keyword appeal by not limiting all your keywords to 'wedding singer'-oriented ones. Hope this helps.

Site Downtime - Will pages be reindexed?
I haven't had an experience yet where my pages didn't get re-indexed. It may take a few weeks to get back to where they were in the rankings but under normal circumstances after an extended downtime you likely won't have any problems.
