301 to 404
404s happen for a lot of reasons, but the only time you need to fix them is when there is a link involved that is pointed to a 404 page. You then have 4 choices: change the link if you have control over it create a page there 301 the URL to something else leave it broken #1 is the best solution if it's possible. #2 or #3 are acceptable alternatives to me. #4 is unacceptable to me for the sites I manage, but if you have a large or dynamic site where the URLs change frequently, it may be something you have to live with or learn how to handle in a better way (such as a plug-in like Smart404, for a Wordpress site). As far as whether I'm going to clean up every link to a broken page on my site - I'll absolutely do it if it's a good link, because it's way easier to 301 that link than it is to earn another link elsewhere. If it's a crap link I might not bother.

How is this achieved - SPAM
Freelance.com has 12,300,000 pages in index and most of them are this type of pages, so it's very hard to monitor all keywords manually. If only part of this pages works - bounce rate to other doesn't matter at all, by the way they have page "/jobs/iPad/" too. User relevance still main goal for Google, but using statistical algorithm has some limitations especially for such rare queries. For more frequently and competitive keywords this tactic will not work. Personally i think it's black hat with so many internal links and custom generated pages, because it hurt user experience, but using 1-3 such internal links is ok, and can positively affect positions in SERP .

Local seo, business in multiple cities?
Isn't that rather good, so Google knows there is a business at all. I wouldn't worry, think of all the big office towers where tens of companies have the same physical adress. So don't worry. Just make a cute little profil with a picture of their office (office-windows-anytown.jpg use microtagging etc put outgoing links to regional pages - preferably about windows or complimentary products in anytown - get some local links, get listet in the phonebook with that office adress and you will be fine. If you need s/o to have a look at your page just PM me. If this helped you, I really appreciate it if you mark the answer as answered/helpfull

Hub technique
Hi Alex, Either option has a fine chance of ranking well. It's going to depend on what type of keyword you are targeting. If I'm searching for something broad and informational, a category page seems like a nice spot to land. If I'm searching for something more specific, I want to land on the page with the actual information I'm looking for, not on a page of results. You should decide what will work best for your site. Do you plan on writing a lot of content regularly? If so, you might want to use the category method. If not, perhaps you should just make one page, as rich and useful as possible and try to get that one to rank.

Is warriorforum.com information reliable?
I've spoken with several people who fell prey to the 'specials' on that forum. At best, you may see marginal results if you're targeting keywords with ultra-low competition. At worst, your site will get penalized heavily (rankings-wise) for a high number of spammy links popping up over a short period of time.

How long till you rank for your domain name?
I believe new domain names usually take 2 months (average) to "age". Beyond that, your ability to rank will rely on standard seo ranking factors.

4 sites - 4 keyword sets?
Thanks cabbagetoe, Yes having one website would make sense but the client I work for already has 4 sites so I'm not sure what is the best solution for him at this point. 2 websites are almost ready, the other 2 just the domains...
