Multiple E-commerce website
Following is a scenario where we plan to have a single database and different sites pulling product information from this. There will be a primary site with all the products listed and then there will be other category based website with the same products. All transactions will happen on respective website. The common factor will be products and its information.
Our question is should we have different item numbers for the same product listed on two websites or they can be the same.?
e.g.
Website A: Product - Blue Shoes and item number '123'
Product page url will be: websitea.com/blueshoes-123.htmlWebsite B: Product - Blue Shoes and item number '123' or should the item# should be unique e.g. 'B123'
Product page url will be: websiteb.com/blueshoes-123.html
or
If item number is unique the product page url will be: websiteb.com/blueshoes-B123.htmlPlease advise what is the best way forward.

RE: How to show number of products in your Google SERP?
Yes I tested, but it doesn't show. Even for those websites which are coming with the number of products in SERP are not showing the value in rich snippet testing tool.

RE: Unable to demote contact us & about us pages from sitelink?
Thanks Andy. I will work on internal backlinks but the demoted pages should be removed from the sitelink to place other important pages.

Tick mark against Free Shipping text in SERP
In Google SERP I saw a tick mark before the text such as Free Shipping, Cash on Delivery, etc.
These are part of the second line of the description shown in the SERP.
Is this coming from micro data or from some feature within the shopping cart?

RE: Does articles for SEO purposes have a minimal and maximum word count in ordered to be crawled/indexed by Google and other search engines?
Google have not specified any optimum word count that an article must have. Google suggests that the article must be unique, well written, it should be original and informative. Your social media response to the article is also very important than the length of the article, article with most FB likes, G+ and Tweets would be considered to be of good quality by Google.
Kindly refer to this article by Google about quality website. It gives you important insights on what a good article must constitute.

RE: Need assistance with website placement
Thanks for your answer.
Yes, its possible when I am the owner of the blog.
But having my website placed on some other blogs blogroll which is recurring shouldn't harm my website until the following points that you have addressed.
"But if the area on the page is titled: sponsored, advertising, etc, google will know the link is paid for and if it's not nofollowed it could be a problem.
Is the link paid for? If yes, be careful. Also review the other links around it, if it's surrounded by other external links that aren't relevant be careful."
Thank you, you addressed some valuable points.
Regards,
Susan Smith

RE: Need assistance with website placement
Hi Tom,
I appreciate your answer.
As you said you would wary of having the website appear on every single page of the blog. However, the right navigation of most of the blogs are repetitive on every internal pages. Therefore, we can't have a website placed under right navigation of some blog and limit the pages it would appear on.
I wonder, I have known some reputed blogs who have external links (Those external links have a good reputation too.) placed under right navigation which recur on every page of their blog, thus appearing on hundreds and thousands of their pages.
Thank You,
Susan Smith

Need assistance with website placement
Hi,
If a website xyz.com is placed under the top right navigation of a blog abc.com which are closely relevant to each other, will it do any harm to the website in Google search?
Now since the website is placed under right navigation, it is visible on every page of the blog, does it matter even though they are closely relevant?Note: The other external links that are on the blog are also relevant to each other.
Thank You,
Faiz -
RE: Need assistance with Google Webmaster & Recovering Rank
Hello Nick,
Thanks for your answer.
We determine that we got penalized when we found that most of our primary keywords which sent us traffic got disappeared from the ranking after the penguin update.
We did not rush with the decision of using Disavow, we lost our ranking in May 2012 and till Dec 2012 we tried to make corrections to get aligned with the Penguin guidelines. We did not see any improvements and in Jan 2013 we decided to use Disavow. Yes, we did used Open Site Explorer to extract our backlinks, we also used Ahrefs and Bing to collect backlink data.
Our concern is with the unusual change in the number of backlinks in Google webmaster tool. After we sent our Disavow list Google immediately removed all those backlinks from their record and we saw a sudden decrease in our number of backlinks in the Google Webmaster tool, this appeared to us that Google is re-considering our website, but after a week the backlinks that were removed and disavowed appeared again in the webmaster tool. In fact we disavowed twice and if you see the below table again you will notice an unusual fluctuation in the backlink numbers.
Date Scenario
03-Jan Google webmaster shows 112,317 Backlinks
07-Jan First Disavow List Sent
07-Jan Reconsideration Sent
27-Jan Google webmaster shows 38,678 backlinks
No Improvements in ranking
04-Feb Second Disavow List Sent - (Does not include backlinks we disavow in the first list)
05-Feb Google webmaster shows 7,164 backlinks
11-Feb Google webmaster shows 1,892 backlinks
12-Feb Google webmaster shows 36,808 backlinksBacklinks are the cause for Penguin penalization according to Google and other experts, therefore we are so much concerned about mentioning and discussing it.

RE: Need assistance with Google Webmaster & Recovering Rank
Hi Mark,
Thanks for your suggestions and a detailed explanation about the off-page activities we should perform. Perhaps, there are still more questions that we need help with.
1. We had already went deeper and have completed our link cleanup process. We had started to work and focus only on quality backlinks. However its been over 7 months now and we still see no change or improvement in our ranking. From our side, we had made all the necessary corrections to recover from the Penguin penalty, how much more time it could take to see results?
2. We had about 20-30 primary keywords that lost ranking and now does not even appear in top 100 pages in Google's SERP. What measures must we take to restore our previous ranking? These keywords are used on our website Meta, content, H1, H2 etc..
3. What are the other Off-page activities we should perform other than Guest Posts and Social Media?
4. Would you like to share a case study about recovering from the Penguin penalization? It will be grateful!
