Well Nightwing,

I have tried many times to find this "link bait" examples for more specific industries but it was almost impossible to find successful stories unless you write an amazing post for your digital marketing company, post it on moz where will be seen by many others involved in digital and they probably will link to you.

What I am saying is that there are so many industries out there and for some of them certain techniques, practices just don't work because the audience doesn't really care about linking to what you write, and this gets even worse when you work for e-commerce site.

I will have to agree with you since I manage a site with no content section which makes it very difficult to earn links.

What I am doing is to find creative link strategies to earn links. As you mentioned, competing with big names is not easy especially when your budget is limited.

I think the first two will give you a link back as the third one isn't a url unless you use it as anchor text.

By the way, I wouldn't build links by commenting on blog posts because it may look like spam, I would rather focus on earning links with your content.

I checked analytics, backlinks, everything but it doesn't benefit us in any way. Not even the links point to my site.

So upset! What should I do? Contact Google and report the site or should I contact the company?

Hello guys,

I was checking my product descriptions and I found out that there is a website that is using my descriptions word by word, also they use company name, product images, they have a link that sends you to my site, contact form..

I tried to purchase something and the order came through our email, but i made an inquire and it didn't come through. Also they have a sub-folder with my company name.

Also they have url's with my company name, and this isn't right is it?

I am confused and honestly I don't know what to do, we don't take part to any affiliation program or anything like that and we don't ship out of Europe. This is a Chinese website.

Just for curiosity, I noticed that one of our competitors is there as well, and it does seem weird.

I keep a close eye on this little details and it does make a difference especially when the industry you are in is a niche.

I found that most of the keywords that drive traffic and sales (also on my PPC campaigns) are completely different from the one I had thought about.

Also when optimizing your content you better use the people you work with and customers as a "keyword tool" you will discover a lot of new possibility and it gives you a better understanding on how people search.

One way you could do this is to create a specific page named, let's say letter bracelet and then with a drop down menu' list all the items and use the canonical tag to tell google that all the other product pages refer to that page.

In this way you have just one page and one product description for products that are pretty much the same.

I did this for my products that were different in colour and length solving the problem of duplicate content and also saving myself the time to write different descriprions for similar products

Thanks for your answer, this really helps. And also answer my question about using both of them within the same website for different pages.

I did check their titles but some of them have hyphens and some others have v-bars anyway, I will have to make a decision about that.

But if it is the page title that you want to change you should look into your CMS

Also I forgot to mention that in this way you also don't have to worry about creating tons of different product descriptions because you will put one description for, let's say, 6 different products.

the way we built it, allow us to have just product group pages are reachable; the products pages are indexed and crawled and they have to be there otherwise the whole system wouldn't work, but no optimization is done on them and customers can't see it.

I manage an e-commerce site and because we have similar products and issues with duplicate content we have implemented product groups pages with a drop-down menu' listing the different options for a particular product and then we have used the rel="canonical" with the different product pages. In this way we have solved this issue and it works very well.

If you do implement it, make sure every passage is done correctly otherwise, as Matt Cutts says, you will have an headache trying to sort it out.

Being quite new to SEO and also PPC I rely a lot on MOZ blog and Q&A as well as other sources and I do keep an eye on bigger companies (I manage an e-commerce site for a small comapany) to get ideas and also to compare what I do to what they do, where I can improve, where I am going wrong. And I do think you can learn from them, but the way I see it is that you shouldn't be kind of replicating strategies or tactics that others have implemented because they might not work for you, and in this case they didn't.

Some of my competitors have Websites that rank well and better than the one I manage but they have tons of keywords on each page and their sites are optimized for search engines not for humans.

Consider also the link profiles of these companies, I am sure Amazon doesn't struggle in acquiring natural links from relevant and authoritative sites.

My suggestion is that you should optimize your website for your audience using as many best practices as you can and doing it by evaluating your objectives and goals. Also use competitors and bigger companies to get ideas and to differentiate your OVP

Thanks for your answer. But I think I explained myself badly sorry about that, my English needs more improvement as my SEO skills.

Anyway, what I was talking about position on SERP not page rank. I am changing the title tags making them more relevant for people and also to better describe the content on the pages and that should improve the position on Google SERP but I don't think it changes overnight, does it?

Well my goal is to rank higher and drive more organic traffic to the website.

I am gonna be using pretty much the same keywords which are the ones that represent the actual product pages, I will just rewrite the title tags and product description in order to be found from people and also to improve the experience of customers that will not see just codes but actual words.
