Penguin 3.0 - Very minor drops across the board. Don't think its a penalty, any ideas?
Yeah, if sites that are linking to you have been hit then you may lose rankings. Penguin may have devalued some of your links as well (not the same as penalised, be aware), which would also lose you rankings. Like a previous commenter has said, wait a week or so before panicking. Look at onsite stuff as well, really a site doesn't need that many links if the content and site are well built and follow best practice. (by not many links I mean not many high value ones - you'd need thousands of poor value ones to rank well - but you'd always be looking over your shoulder for a big fat penguin chasing you down!) Also, look at your competition - what's happened to the sites that share your vertical? Has any of them suddenly shot up in the serps? Maybe they've had a penguin penalty lifted and you're the collateral? Sometimes we lose ranking because another site in the same vertical does something better than us - hard to admit I know, but worth bearing in mind. Best of luck with this! Amelia

Monthly Data Option not appearing in Moz AGAIN
Our engineers are working on improving how custom reports are scheduled but it won't affect when the data is collected as that will depend on the campaign creation date. The best day to create a custom monthly report will be either on the 4th or 5th of the month as all monthly collections for the previous month are available by the 4th. So currently the system will schedule the report based on the day it was created which means if you set one up on the 10th of the month, it will generate on the 10th the next month, but once the data is available by the 4th you can always manually export the report at anytime.

More problems with Moz - Monthly Reporting
Hey Paul, Sorry for the late response. When you're setting up your reports you can select the monthly delivery schedule. However, in order to select the monthly time frame for your modules you will need to have enough data in the campaign for that time frame to be generated. Monthly time frames are generated on the first of the month assuming there is at least 21 days of data. I hope that answers your question. Cheers, Joel.

Moz Analytics - How can I turn a whole report to 'Monthly'?
Hey Paul, Thanks for the question. Unfortunately if you initially entered the modules as weekly you will need to go through and remove the wrong time frame and add the correct time frame. Thanks, Joel.

Moz Analytics - Custom Report Question
Hi Paul When you are in the edit & schedule email section of the report there is a customize email option at the bottom: http://www.screencast.com/t/OaMFhUewEJ0U Alternatively you can create a template to send a more customized email with your own rich-formatting that you can use to manually email the reports once they are ready. I know a few customers are using this way to send their reports until we can add more custom options in the future. Moz Analytics is technically not in beta as we are only missing the monthly timeframe options which is built and currently in testing stages.

Moz Analytics - Custom Report Question
Hello Sam, Thanks for the answer, I just got your support ticket reply too! Please do forward it, there are two things that I would suggest for this application: 1. Brand Manager - I'm also an SEO re-seller, so I have to change my logo often, brand managers make my life my easier. 2. Report Templates - This would be useful for all, there are many types of reports I like to run, creating them repeatedly is not very fun however. Thanks again Sam, all the best

Article/ Blog Post submissions
www.myblogguest.com I've found is decent for getting good backlinks from guest blogs. However, the guest blog post has got to be to a decent standard to get accepted. It goes into a list of posts for selected. There's another one called blogger link up which is a kind of dating service for guest blog posts and publishers

SEO - I just do not seem to get it
Hi Paul. It seems you are doing the right things already. Remember to target both low and high competition keywords - and focus on both short and long tailed keywords. Use good synonyms. fix <-> repair, PC <-> computer. Dont target too narrow. use Google Keyword Tool to find good keywords. And, yes i would be that guy sharing a link to a page that saved my day by fixing my harddrive. I would comment and ask questions i stumbled upon on of your videos, when searching for someone or something to help me fix my problem. Try taking a look at good performing local repair shops in ie Manchester. What have they done. From who have they acquired good links etc. Keep it up

Site Explorer, Social Media Count. Am I linking my social media correctly?
Hey Paul, Thanks for reaching out. One quick thing to remember when you're looking at the social metrics on OSE, those are for the URL specifically. They have no correlation to your actual facebook page. For example: www.seomoz.org had 156 Facebook Likes on OSE, where as our actual facebook page has 79,222. Significant difference there. I hope that makes sense. It can definitely be confusing if you aren't expecting it. Cheers, Joel. edit: fix a word.

Summarize your question.Irrelevant Domain Name, relevant page name
The question is, do you see SEO as a service that complements your current product? Think about it from a branding perspective: I have an SEO site. If I decide to sell SEO tools, I might promote those tools on my SEO blog, but I probably would create a new branded domain for the tools themselves, right? That is why I'd say that you should start over with a new site. I'm also going to let you in on a little secret. Very few of the top SEO companies rank for SEO related terms. This is because ranking for SEO terms simply isn't worth the time and energy that you need to put into it in order to succeed. Focus on building a beautiful site, writing stuff that people find useful, and providing excellent value for your first clients and you will do OK. BTW, congrats on taking that leap, here are a couple of articles I wish I'd read before getting started: http://www.sugarrae.com/seo-sphere/the-number-1-mistake-new-seo-consultants-make/ http://www.seomoz.org/blog/setting-up-your-seo-project-agency-for-success http://www.seobook.com/starting-new-seo-business-2011 http://www.seobook.com/starting-an-seo-company Good luck, and if I can ever be of assistance, I'd love to help.

OSE Confusion on 'External' Links
Hi Paul, Good to see you getting in to the mindset of an SEO. It's a challenging, yet rewarding job. I've recreated the filter OSE search you've done... http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?page=1&site=www.springer-marketing.co.uk&sort=page_authority&filter=follow&source=external&target=page&group=0 These are only external sites, but some are similar, for example 301 from www.springermarketing.co.uk/ (no hypen). You can give yourself strong links, internal lining is a fundamental SEO strategy. Have a look at this great article by SEOMOZ http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/internal-link Hope that helps Iain - Reload Media

Video SEO
You are very welcome Paul and thanks for the compliment. I am working on another post, but am torn where to post it, my own blog or YouMoz. In YouMoz they get more exposure, but my own blog is desperate for new content, lol...We'll see I guess. Let me know what you decide, 3rd part vs. YouTube. I'm interested to know what you experience.

Is my linking tactic affecting my rankings?
Sounds like a smart tactic - and I'd continue to do it - but you most likely want to diversify your link profile. Keep in mind that multiple links from the same domain typically don't help as much as links from multiple domains. But if the forum posting are generating you traffic and connections, I don't see much harm in continuing to post. For instance, I have like a jillion links from SEOmoz, but I still continue to post here, and wouldn't stop for the world.
