I also really like your points about most funding vs most value, that's definitely a huge consideration here and I think one that a lot of people haven't really considered (myself included) about the repercussions of this repeal.

Hi Errick

You have some pretty heavy exact match anchor text in your backlink profile for "houston business lawyer". Beyond that - the entire site is built around that phrase - "Houston Business ______" - either lawyer or law service. My opinion - crawlers have caught on to your heavy optimization of this on your site, even your domain name, and it probably tripped spam filters.

I would consider going through your site and easing up on such heavy utilization of "(local) Business (lawyer/service)". The site does have quite a bit of a "spammy" feel. There's no real association on the site to Mastriani Law Firm beside the logo. This is a HUGE opportunity you are missing, as people could be searching for the attorney by name.

I also found http://www.texasdebtdefense.com/ which seems to be the same attorney. The site has the same issues - just to let you know. This particular site also has a pretty bad backlink profile - lots of directories and pretty obvious old-school-SEO link building tactics being utilized. Be careful here too, because both these sites, if they are on the same IP address and have the same WhoIs data, could also trip more spam signals.

Please look at the links I posted above, take an honest assessment of the website as it is, and start optimizing your site in a more natural fashion with branding for the law firm; not just exact match keywords repeatedly. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Yep! I use ScreamingFrog, here's how I do it:

• Goto your /sitemap.xml

• Select all + copy

• Paste into Excel column A

• Select column A

• Turn "Wrap Text" off

• Delete rows 1 through 5

• Select column A again

• "Find and Replace" the following:

• <lastmod></lastmod>

• <changefreq></changefreq>

• daily

• Whatever the date is

• Priority numbers, usually 0.5 to 1.0

• "Replace With" nothing, no spaces, nothing

• You'll hit "Replace All" after every text string you put in, one at a time

• With Column A still select, hit F5

• Click "Special"

• Click "Blank" and "Ok"

• Right click in the spreadsheet

• Select "Delete" and "Shift Rows Up"

Walla! You have your list. Now copy this list, and open ScreamingFrog. Click "Mode" up top and click "List". Click "Upload List" and click "Paste". Paste your URLs in there and hit Start.

Your sitemap will be crawled.

You can see more examples when you scroll down to the bottom of the page. Keep in mind that you need the business information to attach the hours schema to. If you don't want anything else other the opening hours visible, you can take advantage of meta tags to put in missing / implicit information. I would discuss with you web development team.

It really depends on the link.

The best way to define a bad link is to use your own intuition and common sense:

• Does this link help my website?
• Is this link relevant to my website?
• Would I trust this site (that's linking to me) if I landed on it?
• Is the website or content in which I am being linked from topically relevant to my website?
• If you check metrics - does anything about the metrics (domain authority, page authority,Majestic, SEMRush traffic/ranking data, etc) make me feel uneasy?

I would go through a backlink audit - what needs to be removed / disavowed? Start there and assess. Truthfully, if the site is not indexed, it's not that big of a deal. I would just make sure that's it's relevant and a good link, because it could send traffic.

The cable and internet comparison is actually a great way of looking at this. I'm going to borrow this for our office download as well. The potential back and forth on pricing from the consumer / publisher perspective is what I'm concerned about. Put the professional aspect of this being my job aside, the idea that people who can't afford access to even the most basic need content or information is something that I find absolutely heartbreaking should this repeal stick.

Oooh, I definitely have opinions on Ajit's videos, but that's a conversation for another time and platform.

I would check Google's Report spam, paid links, malware, and other problems and see if you this is a route you should take. I would also do a backlink audit and check which links you should reach out to for removal. You can also add suspicious links to your disavow file.

Here's a great guide to remove this from your Analytics traffic and, although I have never tried this, here's some tips to block traffic from these spam sites. I would use caution on that though and consult your web dev team.

I would check out Rand's Whiteboard Friday called How Google is Connecting Keyword Relevance to Websites through More than Just Domain Names. There is some great information in there.

You could also dive into your backlinks to see if you have a healthy backlink profile from relevant sources and also take a look at your content to see if you are providing what users want in their searches.

Have you ran your keywords through the Keyword Difficulty tool to see how you square up with different domain and page authorities for those ranking? This is a good time to an unbiased look at your site and see how you square up in your industry.

Without giving too much away, what are other elements to a Moz profile do you monitor? I'd imagine comment spam is a major one. Does activity or dormancy come into play at all?

I would take a look at your backlinks - you have a TON of backlinks coming from sites that look just like yours. I am using Majestic data in my quick scan. From there you can decide which links you wish to remove or disavow. This is something you need to take care of.

This page is not deindexed, you're also targeting an difficult keyword in the phrase "Car Accident Injury Lawyers" with no search volume.

Utilize the /blog/ in the URL. Otherwise, you're creating a flat architecture to your site. Always include /blog/ in your URL if it is in fact a blog piece of content.

For each product, do URLs look something like this when it comes to tags...
www.example.com/products/blue-lowrise-skinny-jeans
www.example.com/collections/frontpage/blue-lowrise-skinny-jeans
www.example.com/clothing/womens/blue-lowrise-skinny-jeans

If that's the case, you will want to put a canonical tag on these pages for the page you want to appear in search and rank. The reason you are doing so is because you have three different URLs for the same product. You want search engines to know this is not duplicate content.

You can include the release/creation date if it is relevant to the industry - something like SaaS or item models or something like that where features are added.

I would highly recommend if you do include information like this (and even if you don't, really) to check out Schema that will help you markup important information about your products, possibly helping your search engine performance.

If it's just one type of product that doesn't change often or hasn't in years, it's not really necessary to add dates or anything though.
