When employing an SEO company what should I be looking for? When I go to a companies website I look for how many keywords they have ranked on Semrush. Most of the companies that I have looked at do not rank very many. Saying most I am talking about 10-12 companies. There was one company that had a lot more than anyone else but their reviews were awful.

Then I look at their clients websites to see how many keywords they have ranked and this is where I am baffled. Quite a lot of them especially retail sites with lots of products have very few keywords ranked and my belief is that the more related keywords that you have ranked the better you will do.

I also look at how the thier organic traffic is doing over a number of months. what surprises me most is that companies are advertising clients websites where it looks like traffic is climbing and then all of a sudden there is a big drop. Am I missing something in order to find a company that will do what we are paying them for?

We are a UK company but we would like to get listed on some USA business directories. If say we enter our company name, the first and second line of our UK business address but put a USA state and a zip code would this help us for SEO or is this classed as black hat trying to deceive Google.

We have a conflict of information between our web developers and our SEO company. We are an on-line retail company hence we have a fair number of different categories. Our site is set up with the rel=next and rel=prev tags. Our SEO company have asked us to implement canonical links on our category pages and leave the rel=next and rel=prev tags as they are.

Our web developers are saying by doing this we are asking Google to ignore all of our products on all of the pages except page 1 which would mean Google would not index a lot of our products. I have looked at a few articles but I am struggling to understand which way to go. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you for responding, the links appear at the side of each page, it is a text link with our company name, they are mainly for SEO.

I have links on a website with similar catergories to my own, at present all the links from that site point to my homepage, would I be better having the links from his catergories pointing to the equivalent categories on my site or leaving it has it is?

Thank you for your reply, we ship Worldwide. Setting my site to UK only would limit my site in other Countries from what I can see, please correct me if I am wrong. My site is indexed with Google.co.uk it is not when I search via "the UK" from a sub menu

We are a UK company with a .com domain If I search on google.co.uk site:mydomain.com we show for over 10,000 pages. If I select More tools to the right of web, images etc and click on this it shows more options including any Country. If I click on this an option called Country: The UK shows. If I click on this and enter site:mydomain.com none of my pages are listed, if I revert to any Country all of my pages show again. If I enter any site similar to mine under My UK they all show. Is there something that we are doing wrong?

Thank you for replies. I have looked into our Google analythics and it appears iwe had the following visits:

38 referrals from 5th June to 5th July
20 of those were from there homepage
13 from category pages
5 from individual stories

I have contacted the company who we advertise with and they have agreed to place our link on the home page and the highest traffic category pages.

Thank you to all who have taken the time to help me out not only with this question but all of my previous questions. You are helping a small business stay afloat against some very big competition.

I have a backlink on a very popular sports news site PR5 this is a sitewide link. The link is near the top on righthand side. As you scroll down, the page keeps loading more and more information. According to my Google webmaster tools the link is on the site over 21,400 pages. As the stories being submitted are new most of the pages have no PR however there are around 30-40 categories that have PR ranging from 0-4.

According to my AHREFS account on a daily basis it picks up between 100-200 new links with on average around 10-20 being lost as the stories are being removed.

Would anyone advise I just ask for my link to be on the category pages only or should I leave it as it is?

Thank you for your response. I have asked my web developers if they can point the domains to the same directory. I used to rent a virtual office in the USA but our main supplier took humbridge to this and ordered us to remove the address and telephone number from our website.

Thank you for your response. I have come to another conclusion which I did not think of when I posted my question. My website is set up so that if anyone from the USA visits it the prices are shown in U.S. Dollars automatically. I would imagine that when Google scans my site they do this from the USA so it would automatically show dollars as the currency. I am not sure if in the long term this is a good thing but we do get a lot of orders from the USA.

On our panel for Google webmaster tools we had a problem where there was an error when we did some testing of our products. Missing prices seemed to be the problem. This has now been fixed but on checking when testing it returns the prices in US Dollars. We are a UK company with a number of currency options. Should we be worried about this or should the system return the prices in UK Pounds as this is our main currency?

We have an ecommerce site. If we have a product that is not going to be available again and the url of the product is not in the Google index should we re-direct it to a category page or do a 410?
