Hi There,
Yes I have noticed big drops for a client also. Do you think it's just a temporary thing?
My clients site I am looking at is in .au
Hi Matthew,
Well whatever it is, your not alone!!!.
Hope it settles down as client's get nervous, which makes me nervous
Think we are experiencing a Google dance. My client has just dropped majorly today, then I checked again an hour late and it changed again!.
This is why we shouldn't be overly checking rankings!! But yet glad its not just me!
Yeah! just ran another report and now they have all changed again!!. Definitely reckon its having a dance!!
Looks like the "Google Dance" it's now 78th.
Thank you Marcus, thought I was going to have relearn everything!!!
Hi Guys,
Has anyone noticed that the onpage rules seem to have changed in terms of what Google is looking for.
I have just been optimizing a client site, I haven't worked on for a year and noticed that the pages I have worked on have dropped since lat week when I finished the onpage. Some of them aren't just 1 or 2 places but literally pages. It can't be links as I haven't even started link building yet. These are the same rules i have been playing with for six years and I don't cut corners with rogue text, or overly optimize for keywords.
I am going to give it till the end of the month and then reverse the changes be interesting to see what happens.
Kind Regards
Neil
Hi There,
Quick question for everyone. Is it possible to get penalized a keyword level not page level. I have a site that only seems to be penalized on one keyword which is currently at page 22, whilst the rest are on page 1 or page 2.
I came to the site late so I have no idea when the site lost its ranking for this keyword after a site redesign but the onpage is almost the same.
Kind Regards
Neil
Hi,
Thank you for your reply!.
I do think it maybe a over optimisation penalty but here "Used BMW Parts & Spares" (top left corner) instead. However he is on the first page for "Used BMW Parts" too, just "BMW Parts" is on the 22nd page

Hi There,
Your not being harsh. However the site does have text. I couldn't find it either. There is a drop down box if you click on About Quarry Motors. There are actually 245 words on the home page with this box included.
It's ranking on page 1 for BMW Spares and BMW Breakers, but page 22 for "BMW Parts". I have covered way beyond the basics.
Kind Regards
Neil
Hi Guys,
I am stumped!!. I have been asked to look at this site http://www.quarrymotors.co.uk. Which has lost rankings for "BMW Parts" since a redesign of the site. Through a bit of detective work I have managed to get hold ot the wayback machine version of the old site here http://web.archive.org/web/20080520104847/http://www.quarrymotors.co.uk/
And according to the onpage factors I have compared with SEOquake, the keyword density, title tag, description is almost identical.
I have checked webmaster tools and analytics (I only have data from June 22nd) So I am unable to confirm what traffic was available before the redesign.
All other keywords:-
BMW Breakers
BMW Spares
Are on the first page but this keyword "BMW Parts" is on page 22??!?.
I have checked open site explorer and it's not a case over optimisation of anchor text as a majority of the keywords are pointing back to the url and it's one of the cleanest profiles I have ever seen.
The only issue, which it can't be is right at the top left corner of the site is a piece of text "Used BMW Parts & Spares"
Any help would be gracefully appreciated
Kind Regards
Neil
Won't this be duplicate content across the two domains though? wouldn't this trigger the panda penalty?
Kind Regards
Neil
definitely not!. I use MBG and now and again I will allow a guest post to be published on the globalgoodgroup it's a PR4 isn't it and has okay mozrank. I know they look like article directories but they are not. It's unique content and they won't allow people just to submit crap!
However, industry related blog posts through outreach is better? but takes time and a budget
kind regards
Neil
So basically domain B now has domain A content etc without the iframe?
And you are asking if you move it back to the way it was with a 301 redirect from domain B to domain A would you get your rankings back?. If domain A was set out the exact same way as it was originally.
in time theoretically!
yes!
Kind Regards
Neil
thank you so much this is exactly what I was thinking. I mean content marketing is the way to go no doubt about it, but hey you can't write 15-20 quality blog articles, using outreach every month on say "fencing". So I am thinking:-
Obviously volumes will depend upon the competition.
You have made my day!!!. I was seriously considering packing all this in but now I will dig my heels in instead.
Kind Regards
Neil
Just out of interest how many much content (i.e links) are you getting back each month? Are you targeting keywords still?
Hi Guys,
I wake up this morning one very frustrated, tired and fed up SEO.
I have always used very traditional link building methods upto last year directory submissions, social bookmarks, article submissions and maybe a few profie links but I always up front and honest with my clients what they were getting for their buck!. and sent them reports showing all links done.
Obviously with the recent algorithm changes, I have switched my focus to content marketing (i hear you all cheering lol), however, I am stumped!. I have read everything I can get hold of to do with content marketing, registered with buzzstream for outreach opportunities and joined myblogguest just so I could understand the process a little bit more.
I have watched the whiteboard Fridays and actually have a great opportunity to get in with a site using "guest post + niche". I love writing content which is a bonus.
Okay here's my moan. Coming from a traditional SEO background and coming to content marketing late, do I ditch everything else. Is content marketing all I should be doing? or can I still do the some directory submissions (good PR moz rank only), social bookmarking (only for content marketing articles), profile linking (maybe I need to drop altogether).
Is content marketing enough to rank a client?. I look at some clients competitors links and they have 100's of links to stuff that looks unnatural.
Kind Regards
Neil
Hi Guys,
I have a technical question. Ive started optimising an ecommerce site for a client and come across some duplicate content issues:-
This page:
http://www.bracknelllamps.com/projector-manufacturer/SANYO/70
is actually indexed in Google as:-
http://www.bracknelllamps.com/projector-lamps.php?make=SANYO
Both pages have the same content and I'm guessing the indexed page refers to an old way of navigating the site. As I'm concerned about duplicate content issues, what's the best approach as this seems to be the case for all 'projector manufacturer' pages.
would it be to 301 redirect each manufacturer url (this could take forever with 107) manufacturers or rel="canonical" tag? to show Google which page I want indexing?
Kind Regards
Neil
