We are in the process of relaunching one of our website's that will use a totally need folder structure.

Previously we used mydomain.com/content/country/region/city/district/hotel_name/

Now we are changing to make the URL shorter, more precise - since we are using a new CMS, to be mydomain.com/gb_Hotel-Name/

My question is currently we've in the region of 10,000 pages indexed in Google.  So we are going to have to create 301 permanent redirects from the old URLs to the new URLs.

From your previous experience, is this the correct way of approaching the task.

Hi yes product pages, but the content is freshly written in house with no reference or relevant taken from the source.  So we def do not have a dup content issue.

Maybe the problem is relating to a recent Google tweet http://twitter.com/#!/google/status/137689499198160898

The problem appears to relate to all of our product pages.  Other location pages are fine (slight drop in positions) as are the generic search phrases.

What should we look to check next ?

These pages have been ranking for very competitive phrases for many years.  Just this weekend, we've seen a drop in traffic which in turn made me run through and check the actual search positions for selected phrases.

Looking at Seomoz ranking report for  November 17th, 2011, everything was fine at this point.  Other pages are ranking OK, just some location/area pages and specific product related pages appear to have been affected somehow

Should we consider a reinclusion request to google as they have reported nothing to us?

Search on google.co.uk for "mina house hotel".    First page 1 Tripadvisor listing, look page 3 there are TripAdvisor.fr, TripAdvisor.com and TripAdvisor.de.  Surely they shouldn't be showing for .co.uk and a english search phrase

Why do certain sites for example TripAdvisor rank for their multiple international sites e.g TripAdvisor.co.uk, TripAdvisor.com, TripAdvisor.fr, TripAdvisor.de etc for a English search phrase ?

From my view point they are just spamming the index with the same content.  These searches are performed on google.co.uk

Over the last 24 hours we've seen a drop in traffic to our website from Google.   Basically since Satursday 19th Nov the traffic has drop about 50% normal levels.

The strange thing I noticed is that when you search Google for a search phrase the snippet Google is showing as the title is not the same as we have in a meta title tag on the page and this is across many pages, not just 1 or two.

Anyone know why this is and what is happening ?

I note your point, but global newspaper sites as a example have hundreds of links per page - so I shall assume that as our site is already very well ranked it should not cause a future problem ?

How crucial is it to follow / fix the campaign warnings.  For example, even though our website is ranking well the campaign report is stating that we've too many links on the majority of pages and the title element is too long.

My question is if I make changes based on these recommendations, do you think that we will see a dramatic improvement in our rankings ?

On our site we have Chinese characters in the title's and after reviewing the campaign reports I noticed it was showing that the majority of these pages have a title which is too long.  However, the Chinese character count is far less than the recommended number.

I think the crawling/reporting for this language might have a problem ?

How many times in a paragraph that contains the phrase "putting accuracy" should you be linking ? Just once, or for every mention of the phrase ?

I understand, but I just want to be 100% sure that SeoMoz's crawler does not somehow violate the Google T&Cs and have it associated back to our site's URL.

I totally understand that they build up their own database.  But they still need to crawl for example Google's search results to check the sites ranking ?

If it's a total overhaul with new URLs, then you MUST use 301 Permanent Redirects for all the old URLs.  However, if it is a features overhaul, I'd update gradually to ensure your rankings don't drop.

On for example Google's webmaster guidelines it states "Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our Terms of Service."

How is SeoMoz different, if it doesn't send automated queries for the ranking data.

In the past I heard that other SEO type crawling software like WP Gold could seriously harm your rankings in the search engines - especially Google.  How is SeoMoz different ?
