301 Problem
Hi Guys,
Just have a small problem with a htaccess 301 redirect.
I would like to 301:
www.old-domain.com & old-domain.com
to
The site is exactly the same with the same directory structure so i would also like all the subpages to work. Eg:
www.old-domain.com/folder/page & old-domain.com/folder/page
to
www.new-domain.com/folder/page
Many thanks

RE: Domain buying
Hi Vijay
We've been dealing in domains for nearly 10 years now and we have never noticed a difference in the ranking ability.
For some reason the hyphenated domains do seem to have a lower resale value on the aftermarket but if you plan is to develop it rather than investment, i'd go for it.
All the best

RE: Forcing keywords into domain structure
I'd always recommend that the navigation is useful to the user. e.g.
if your website covered other areas of finance then this would make sense:
finance.com/insurance/home-insurance/
finance.com/insurance/motor-insurance/
finance.com/loans/homeowner-loans/but if you were adding it just for seo, personally i wouldn't bother. I'd go for
Insurance.com/home-insurance/
insurance.com/motor-insurance/ -
RE: Anyone have a list of paid directories?
Hi Daniel,
I don't have a list but i have recently seen some benefit from business.com. It's not the cheapest directory at around $300 per year but you might be able to find a coupon code on google.
Best of luck

RE: External Sitemap Tool?
If you've got less than 500 pages you can create a free xml sitemap here http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

RE: Domain certificate
Can you give us a little more info? Are you refering to an SSL Certificate?

RE: Image Optimization - File Name Important?
In short, yes. I've always found them to be a benefit - essential on an image search ranking. Also don't forget your alt tags.

RE: Linking Back to the Same Page
The key question to ask yourself is always 'will this help my users/customers?'
I do know some people that try this, but in my opinion there's no benefit.

RE: On-Page Keyword Optimization Question
If this is the only criteria that your page is failing on, i wouldn't worry about it too much.
If you think having 48 occurences of your keyword is beneficial to the user of the site i would leave it as is.
edit: From your info above it would suggest that you have 39 occurences in the body of your text. This does actually sound a little bit over the top. If you're able to get this down to around 6 i think your customers would find you content more useful.

RE: Traffic drop
Have you noticed any change in your ranking positions?

RE: Most effective Title Tag Structure
Hi John
I'd agree with Paul "CMMS Software | EAM Maintenance Management Software" is the best looking structure for your title.
You might find this useful if you've not already seen it.

RE: Benefit from No Follow links?
If you're looking for 'Link Juice' the you won't get any from a no follow link. You may get click through traffic but only you can judge if this is worth the price of the directory listing.

RE: Can good penalize a site, and stop it ranking under a keyword permanently
The site is likley to be penalised as long as the site is breaking the webmaster guidelines. If you believe that you have corrected the issues causing the penalty you can ask google to reconsider your site here http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35843
Good Luck

RE: Scammer or Legit?
I think your concerns are well founded. For an SEO guru his site is badly built and optimised.
Personally, i think SEOmoz has all the SEO experts you'll ever need.
