Re this question: "I was worried that because Google indexed thespacebazaar.com (and subsequently all of its content) before it was transferred over to thespacecollective.com, would Google think thespacebazaar.com was the original author of the content and see thespacecollective.com as copying." People change domains all of the time. They rebuild their site structures, too. Since you have the old domain rolling over to the new one, AFAIK the Google search engine bots will figure out your site has moved and you have a new structure. AFAIK, you're good. As for the SEO work, I'm sorry you have had those experiences. To some extent, SEO is both art and science. There is snake oil out there, but there are also a lot of knowledgeable people. Feel free to ping me if you put another question here on the forum. I have over 20 years experience in IT, and I am a doctoral candidate. I'd be done if I hadn't started my own company! My academic background means I am happy to teach and do a certain amount of service work when I have a moment. Hi Marie, Thanks for taking the time to write up such a lengthy reply. I completely understand that a trained SEO eye is what is needed, which is why I set about training myself, and in the past 4 months have learnt and conducted more beneficial SEO on my site than in its 7 year history. Moz is a great tool for tracking, after conducting my own SEO changes my ranking keywords doubled, and even with this latest drop, are still higher than they have ever been. My weakness is link building, as opposed to onsite SEO. This is my next area of focus, but without being able to identify what Google has changed it makes it incredibly difficult to make the correct changes. I suppose I can do nothing else but keep searching for my definitive answers and employing them. Thanks again!

Page speed is the obvious one which can certainly be impacted by poor hosting selection. Specfically server response time when viewing page speed insights within GA are impacted by your hosting setup. Beyond page speed reliability is a factor as well. You may have great average server response times and page load speeds but if you see frequent outages or slow-down periods it may have an impact on your traffic. It's also good to understand and choose the right type of hosting. Do you need a DIY hosting package where you are expected to maintain things or are you looking for something managed. Managed hosting can help lessen the stress of hosting depending on your business needs.

Hello Bernadette, Thank you for the information, I was aware of this and have excluded the pages created by the tags in the robots file. I do believe that makes the pages which the tags create null in the eyes of Google (correct?). Knowing this, what do you make of my original query?

It is a bit difficult for me to tell from this post exactly which URL that you are referring to, but I took a look at your full site crawl and narrowed it down using the page title "Astronaut Costumes", per the code you pasted above. Of the two pages with that title, http://www.interstellarstore.com/toys-and-costumes/astronaut-costumes and http://www.interstellarstore.com/astronaut-costumes, neither is being reported in the site crawl or the page optimization reports as missing the meta description. (Page optimization actually reports that the meta descriptions are too long.) However, I definitely see that there are a large number of other pages in your crawl that are reported as missing the meta description. For the handful of those I checked, it does look like that error is being reported correctly. It looks like you've submitted a support request to our help team, so it would be very helpful if you could follow up there with specific examples of pages that are reported as missing the meta description, but that actually have the meta description in the source code so they can look into this further for you. Hi, It's ideal if your XML sitemap is an accurate representation of URLs you want indexed, i.e. the canonical versions. If you're using Screaming Frog to manually build your sitemaps, you make sure the 'Include Canonicals' button is unchecked. Doing so will trigger Screaming Frog to automatically leave out any URLs that canonicalize towards another URL, thus solving your problem.

Just echoing Dmytro I would noindex, also this can help resolve duplicate issues as often the "Tag" and Search pages can create duplicates or pages the spiders have trouble with. If you are using Wordpress Yoast has a nice feature to help automatically care for this task.

I am also having this same issue where I am receiving a duplicate title error for paginated pages even though they have canonical urls set and use the prev and next tags. Is there a solution for this?

I understand , you may need an opencart professional to fix the problem.

Apparently this didn't work. According to the Moz tool I have the same amount of duplicate title tags as before.

Thanks Vijay, I did read this a few days ago and it wasn't helpful. All of the information was either not relevant to my situation or inconclusive.

You need to make each product which appears to be duplicate different or choose the more relevant page to be the canonical. The other thing which can cause issues is if multiple URLs go to the same page, even tracking can cause this. The thing to ensure is all pages have a canonical which points to the most relevant content.

Thank you for this. Google Tag Manager seems to be the most effective tool, but will the Moz Tools pick up on this or will it keep flagging my pages as Duplicate Content and so on?

Hello, Thank you for this information, but I have a followup question. The links you sent me refer to images and PDF's, but this isn't relative to my situation. I need to write in follow/no follow and rel=canonical via htaccess because I do not know how to do it for each individual page on my ecommerce store - additionally, htaccess is easy for me to edit if ever I need to undo something and it is nice to have everything in one place. Can you give me a formatted example of how a follow/no follow and rel=canonical can be placed into a page via the htaccess file please? I intend on doing this for every product category, product and also my home page on my ecommerce store. Thank you
